When I have a little more time I will check out some of these. I love Twenty One Pilots and that entire Macklemore/Ryan Lewis album is great. My favorite Macklemore track is 'The Town' (not the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis remix, just the original Macklemore version). Check it out.

Deafhaven- Sunbather

This might be my album of the year. It's going to be really, really hard to beat. At the start of the year they weren't even on my radar, and I was pretty sure my top album was going to be between Deerhunter, The National or Futurebirds. Deerhunter, while very good, still underwhelmed. The National was exactly as I expected. Vampire Weekend completely exceeded expectations, and I wasn't sure that was going to be topped, but then I heard the Deafhaven record today and have listened to it on a constant loop. Just like all the review are saying, it's an amazing mix of post-rock and black metal. I'm a big post-rock fan, and just a casual admirer of all things metal, but this is completely ruling my world.

Depending on where The National and Vampire Weekend fall on the spectrum of what you like in music, there's a good chance Deafhaven will not appeal to you at all. Outside of instruments there is not real common thread between the tree bands other than good reviews. If you are a fan of metal or post rock or hardcore, this could be something you like, but if screamed vocals and blast beats aren't your thing I might temper my expectations!

Gym music is definitely Downset, and Primer 55 Introduction to Mayhem.
