Hitting/killing animals on the course

While I've never hit an animal, I've come close. Some of the course up in Washington are littered with geese and I've hit some really badly skulled shots that have come close to taking out a few birds. The weirdest animal experience I’ve had though is playing down at Bandon with all the deer on the course. Had a doe and a fawn plopped down near my ball in a fairway and just decided to punch around them 'cause my efforts to scare them off weren’t working.

I have killed moccasins. Many moons ago on a crappy little 9 hole course that used to be 'round these the parts I was walking up to a green and felt something hit my leg several times. I had forgotten my golf shoes and was playing in boots, so my calves were protected, but it was a smallish moccasin. I jumped up and used my Anser 4 to smite the demon spawn. Luckiest day of my life, and the only time I've ever forgotten my golf shoes.

On a different note. My club has fox squirrels. I adore them. If I ever kill one I might curl up in the fetal position and cry myself to death:(

Do you know what coots are? Those things are nasty and are hated by course superintendents. Some courses have liscense a to shoot

I've hit three birds over the years:
1. A seagull on the driving range that flew into the path of the ball end ended in a puff of feathers....dead bird.
2. A seagull on the ground at the range that I landed a 9 iron on top of......he flopped around for 5 minutes then flew away.
3. A canada goose that I hit with a 3-iron off the tee one one bounce.....he walked away as if nothing happened.

I spent 11 years living in rural northern Canada where bears are seen very regularly on the golf courses.

About 7 years, we were playing in an end of the year 3 man cash scramble, two teams on each hole, we both birdies the first. As we went over to two, right beside the blue tee markers was a very large bear eating nuts off the bushes, a really big bear my best guess was about 350 pounds.

The guy I was playing against was the local Native Chief, Jim just marched up right beside the bear and creamed one down the middle, so I Had no real choice but to do the same, after the other four guys teed off the whites and reds, Jim whipped out his phone called the proshop. About 5 minutes later while we were putting out we heard Bang Bang Bang, dead bear.

That was a bit more dramatic than Canada Goose I hit once.

I had a buddy of mine hit a swooping hook into a pack of geese. Feathers flew and when the geese parted there lay a dead goose. I felt bad then and always now I will chase them off if they are in my way.

I watched my dad catch a crow with a 3 iron shot mid flight about 20 yds in front of us. It was like that footage of Randy Johnson pitching the baseball years back. One course I played at had large amounts of geese at it. Never killed one but hit a few on hops.

Normally I don't worry about killing animlas on the course, I worry about them killing me. My regular course has both black bears and gators...I keep out of the brush and away from the water.

I've never hit one, but a buddy of mine did. He hit driver as hard as he could, the ball never got more than a foot off the ground, and hit a squirrel in the side of the head. It fell over and did the curly shuffle for a few seconds, then died. It was a disturbing sight, and I didn't think my buddy was going to be able to finish.

Some schmuck came up in a cart laughing and telling him good shot. I thought I was going to have to hog tie my friend to keep him from whipping this guys hind side. We both gave the guy a piece of our mind and went about our round. Needless to say the rest of the round sucked.

I grew up hunting all kinds of animals. Squirrel, rabbits, deer, birds of all kinds. We ate everything we shot except the snakes that were shot in self defense (moccasins are some nasty bastards). When we sold our land about 15 years ago, I gave up hunting, and have no desire to start again. If it were either hunt or starve, I will do what I need to in order to survive, but as long as I can afford to buy food, I have no desire to hunt.

Ive hit a few. It sucks and I felt bad for about a minute. However, move on and have a short memory just like after making a bogey...
