I can honestly say I have never come close to hitting or killing an animal on the course.

Wtf.

I've always believed that birds intrinsically understand the game of golf. They can tell we are trying to roll that white thing into that hole in the ground and wish they could participate. I've had a family of geese spectate me and honk in applause when the ball drops.

So no, I don't mess with the spectators

I hit a moose right between the antlers once. Never had so much fun as being chased by a thousand pound swamp donkey with a bone to pick. Actually, it is not as much fun as it sounds.

My playing partner about 8 years ago hit a sand hill crane (for you non-Floridians, they are about 3-4 feet tall) right in the mid section while teeing off on the 16th hole. It fell over and was squaking so loud it freaked me out. Rest of us had to tee-off while it was laying there squaking and flopping around on the ground. The guy that hit the crane had to play his next shot right next to the injured bird. Yeah, it was in my mind for the next couple of holes, I doubt the crane lived. When we were done we told the pro shop what happened.

A guy I was playing with in Florida teed off, and a Sandhill Crane turned back and flew towards his tee shot. Probably missed him by about 5 feet. Given the protected status of the crane, and what I've heard has happened to people driving who accidentally hit them, that is what would bother me more so than the fact the animal didn't make it.

I hit a goose accidentally on my second shot on a par 4. He was fine and just flew walked off a few feet. Since the goose was fine I was more angry with it for getting in the way of my shot haha

I hit a Canadian goose a couple years ago w/ a tee shot. HIt 5i right into the guy as he and his buddies flew away and turned around right into my ball. The goose helicopter'd down into a spiral and plummeted to the ground. When we approached it, I felt really bad. The poor guy had an eye ball pop out and attached by a vein. It was clearly still alive but done for and in pain. I didn't know what to do (later I was told by the GolfWRX community I should've rang it's neck out to end it's misery) I played a penalty shot and made bogey. Was on a career low round to break 80 for the first time too. Eneded up shooting 82 or something that day but remember very clearly that for the remaining 3 holes I was out of it.

I also ran over a gardner snake w/ a cart. I didn't see it happen but my playing partners behind me said a the snake wiggled out under my back wheel as I was driving over the cart path. Like a cartoon the Snake popped both ends up as the wheel ran over the mid section. Didn't feel bad about that one.

I saw a lady hit a bird with her tee shot. The saddest part was that it was an awful worm burner tee shot and got the bird while it was on the ground. Immediate death. The lady felt horrible.

I saw a guy kill a snake with his pitching wedge in a tournament. . .

He'd been playing well up to that point but went on a bogey train after the incident.

I've never killed one, but witnessed a goose get killed by a bladed 7 iron on the par 3 17th at Geneva Farms. Straight in the neck, flopped down the hill into the water and didn't budge. From that day on, I've called that hole "Gooseneck".

A few years ago I thinned an iron on a par 3 and hit a goose. It squawked and flew away. I felt bad, but since it flew away it didn't effect me to much.

About 22 years ago, I did the same thing. Short, uphill par 3, bladed a PW right into the side of a goose. All of his buddies flocked over to it and surrounded it, honking up a storm. But it stood up and started walking it off -- seemed OK.

I have seen a Canada Goose get hit by an errant shot while my group was walking to the green and flop down about 10 feet from the green. Yelping and obviously in pain, it may have lived or become fox chow - sure it bothered me. I used to do a lot of grouse, woodcock, and pheasant hunting and have no problem with a clean kill with the intent to eat the bird. But slow pain and death for an animal - not for me.

I also hunt, but agree totally with this post. A big plus for me is when there is lots of wildlife at a course. I'd never feel that killing an animal on the course could affect me positively. Actually hunters do more than most to increase habitat and wildlife restoration than most people (ex: ducks unlimited)

I almost had to spear a duck with a alignment stick this past weekend. It was obviously some sort of genetic mutation, it strange coloring, tail feathers all wacked out, quite ugly, and it was pissed off. It was by itself about 30 ft from the pond where the normal ducks were, we walked by it and it started to charge us and followed us for a good 20 ft or so.

Stop bullying

You should have stuffed it in your golf bag. They're a protected bird in FL. However, they're also the tastiest bird on the planet.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Years ago my wife hit driver a little low and caught a goose lounging in the rough with a line drive to the gut, it barely moved and didn't seem bothered at all, must of hit lots of feathers as it didn't even stand up. I was concerned that it was hurt but looked no worse for wear when we shooed it away so my wife could play her ball.

This spring my playing partner drove straight into a bird 20 yards off the tee as it flew across, feathers everywhere and it wobbled into a back yard where it more than likely died. Felt kinda bad but not much we could have done as we never saw it until ball was in flight.

My partner tried to stop me as I was coming down into my tee ball, buck came out of the woods and my drive landed right between its legs as it calmly strolled across the fairway, it never broke stride. Was actually hoping it would smack it in the rear, just prior winter one of its herd broke through our window and did $25,000 of damage to the furniture, windows, woodwork, and carpet of our house before it finally left. Yes I admit I wanted a little payback, but wasn't looking to really harm it. Nothing worse than seeing an animal suffer that just bothers me too much, I even felt bad for the young buck that destroyed our home as it lost both horns and tore it self up so bad I am sure it died.

I'm an animal lover, i don't like seeing them get killed under any circumstances. I understand these things happen, and it doesn't make me sad or anything (circle of life, i get it....also i eat cows, pigs and chicken). But i hate guys that hit at birds or whatever. Closest i ever came to a fight on the course was for telling off a group that was hitting at a group of birds on the course
