Adams CMB vs XTD Forged

I just sold a set of mint CMB'S with PXI shafts in them on the BST a couple of weeks ago, having severe case of sellers remorse. Great set of irons.

I have both, CMB has a softer feel while the XTD feels a little spongier. XTD is a little longer, a little higher and a touch better on mishits. Since they perform so closely I'm keeping both so I can play the CMB's in the winter, I'm afraid the frozen ground and ice could mess up the slot on the bottoms of the XTD's. But if your decision is between the 2, I'd go right for the XTDs. And I skipped the hybrids and found a 4- GW set. XTD Ti hybrids are money if you need something for the 3 iron. Whether you get the CMB or XTD, you want that gap wedge. Such a perfect shape and feeling club.

Edit: I'll say that slight edge on the mishits is only really apparent in the 4-6 irons...short irons really play the same.
Thanks. That is a big help. I am looking at a 4-Gap set. I think I'll pick up a hybrid as well. Great idea. Thanks. By the way, do you happen to have any experience with the Aldila RiP shafts? Just curious if they play pretty true to flex or if they are soft or firm to flex. Thanks again!
Most say that the RIP Tour shafts play a flex stronger. So if you ordinarily play S300, get R in the RIP's. I believe most of the pros that play RIP in their irons use the S flex.

XTD forged hands down the best iron I have ever hit. Had mine custom fit with Modus 3 120S shafts and the combo works really well. Gained back 1 club in length across the board and control is up. Forgiveness is awesome for this type of club, actually better than my old MX20's. You cannot go wrong with this choice although I have never hit the CMB's. Good luck and with the choice of these two you can't go wrong.

If you wait it out, unfortunately, the price of Adams' current stuff is just going way down in price by the day. I've said before I discovered them late and realized what a great product they have...but going forward it's going to be the best bargain bin club on the planet. I just got a brand new XTD ti driver for $100 shipped. Good things come to an end, would have loved to see the next iron they came up with.

just picked up a set off CMB with TI x100 myself...absolutely mint 3-pw for nothing... awesome looking iron. They are in my rotation this winter as demos to see what will be next summer., I have hit 20-30 9 irons and so far really like them.. nice and small behind the ball and nice solid feel ... really don't know how I haven't hit these before

Went to a fitting with the UST rep at our local club and was set on him building me a set of the CMBs when I got there. Ended up leaving with an order for a set of XTD Forged with their Proto Recoil shafts. Best decision I've made. Gained a club and a half over my R7 TP irons. I knew I was losing distance, but not that much. I did go with the 4-GW, but I've taken the GW out in favor of a Vokey.

Any updates out there to the folks still playing these irons? I recently went in and hit a used set of CMB forged up against the XTD's and really couldn't tell if you difference. I actually was leaning more towards the CMB

I have the XTD forged with the RIP 115 in S flex and I do not think they play stiff to flex at all. Great irons. Never gamed the CMBs but have hit them plenty of times at the store. Owned a set of Adams MB2s and would've kept those but needed graphite shafts. If you're comfortable with C-Taper or S300, you can play the RIP 115 in S flex without issue.

Personally, I think the XTDs sound and feel "chippy" compared to the CMBs. In my opinion, the CMBs and MB2s are the finest irons ever made (with a nod to the MB2s for looks).

I owned both the MB2's and CMB's. I would have agreed with you until I got my new Ben Hogans. The new Ben Hogan company is the new Adams, now that TaylorMade has destroyed the Adams brand, as we all predicted. You heard it here first folks! If you were formerly a member of the Adams players irons cult (like me), all the cool kids are now doin' Hogans baby!!

I bought a set of both CMB and XTD forged irons this past winter to compete for a spot in the bag, both with C-tapers in them. They are very similar clubs, but not quite exactly the same. The XTD to me feels a touch smaller, not in a bad way, just a bit more streamlined than the CMB. I think it has a touch less offset. The CMBs feel amazing for someone coming from non forged clubs the past 10+ years, the XTDs don't feel bad by any means, but they feel more like Cleveland CG4 Tours I'd had previously, just don't have that super butter soft forged feel, a bit clicky if that helps. Performance-wise they're about the same, but there's something about the XTDs that I like more for some reason, the XTDs are about a half club longer it feels like. Forgiveness feels like a wash to me, but the look or perceived (by me) extra size of the CMBs might inspire a bit more confidence for some.

If I had been able to find a set of CMBs with graphite shafts I would've bought them. I actually bought a set of CMBs on eBay with the Matrix shafts but after I paid for them, the guy refunded my money and backed out of the sale so I got the XTD forged with RIP 115 instead. I still look at the CMBs and the MB2s all the time and am thinking about getting MB2 heads and just shafting them with graphite but hitting the XTD forged very well right now...Can't go wrong with either one and both are incredible buys right now.

Currently play XTD forged with Recoil protos. Match made made in heaven. I used to play the CMB's with KBS TOUR custom series and those were awesome as well. Can't go wrong either way.

I'm thinking of the modus 130 Stiff in the CMB heads
