Game Golf tracking system (merged)

Used mine for the first time a couple days ago. Thought I'd show you guys how easy it is to tag every shot and couldn't understand how from previous posts, so many missed tags. Well...I tagged every shot but my front nine sucked as a result because I was more focused on tagging than playing. Went home, lunch, uploaded, relaxed, then played the back 9. Played 6 strokes better but forgot to tag a couple putts. No big deal, easy and quick to edit...very pleased, very cool and helpful.

Yea my first round I was a little "off" with the tagging deal, running back to boxes, back to pitches, and tagging after tapping in (and forgetting)...the 2nd round today, MUCH easier and essentially like it wasn't even there. Great tool and fun to go back and look over the round afterwards. Also nice to get some accurate numbers on drives, approaches, etc. Great training aid/tool thats fun to use as well.

Just had a customer in the store and he said he found the distances to be off some. Anyone else find that to be the case as well?
Distances are not off at all, it's calculating your GPS coordinates in yards from one point to the next. Provided you are tagging in the correct spot, those numbers will never be off.

But what I have noticed is off some with 2 of my pals that have the device; is their idea of hitting 300 yard drives that really only go 260...just sayin ;-)

So those 300 yard drives are only showing up as 250 yards? :)

I do notice on some courses the locations can be a little off, i.e. it will display the tee shot as being near the tee box, but not quite within the tee box area. Or a drive that was in the fairway will be shifted on the map to where it looks like it's in the rough. Easy enough to fix if you want to when editing the round.

But the distances seem accurate to me overall.

Yeah...

I honestly really enjoy the going back and editing part.. especially if it was a good round..

the shots are enjoyable to remember.

I cant wait to play some new places with it.

Used mine for my first round today and I really liked it. Only forgot to tag a couple of times, and I remembered by the time I was putting the club back in my bag so I just tagged it after the shot.

After the round editing was really easy, and none of the shots were "missed".

Picked it up on sale from Golfsmith and so far I see it being $200 well spent. I think this will help me think my way around the course a bit more.

Been using the device for past 5 rounds, including a Men's Club Event (Torrey Pines). Has anyone used the device in a USGA or other State Golf Association event?

I have tried to read all the pages but this thread is a little long so forgive me for asking a question that has already been posted.

Is there a practice mode with this system that you can turn on when you are at the range?

No, it doesn't work like that. You'd have to walk out to your shot and tag it again to get the distance, at most driving ranges that's pretty dangerous. :)

Yea I've used it for two State of Mass qualifiers. No issues in fact neither time was I even asked about it. It's fully approved for tournament use by USGA and R&A so you won't have any issues.

@brtsnbs - thanks! Funny, I've been asked by everyone I play with.

On another note, has anyone figured out how to search for players at a particular course, or city?

When you go here: http://www.gamegolf.com/players

Start typing the players name in the "Find Player" search on the right side. If they filled out the city info in their profile it will show under their name.

No course info displays unless you view the player's page and they actually completed that section of their profile.

You're better off just sending your buddies the link to your page. Hope this helps!

Yeah, the problem is I dont think anyone I know uses it, and was hoping to connect with other local players who do use it. So I can search all day long, but find no one :-)

I just purchased this system. Please bare with me on some stupid questions. Does this system automatically go to the course you are at or do you have to select the course before you leave the house?

I have been looking at some of the members rounds at Game Golf and now have another question. Can I put my 9 iron tag on my 6 iron and so forth??? Some of you guys are murdering the balls. I just want to go ahead and warn some of you people that might look at my rounds. Sometimes my 7 year old son will take my clubs to the course to play . So the distances you see might be from him :taunt:

Be sure to turn it on when you get in the parking lot, but the GG system will know the course you are playing based on GPS.

And if you want to see non-SuperHero distances (Jay), take a look at my profile. :stink:

Considering buying one of these, but my biggest concern is the little red tabs falling off my clubs in the bottom of my golf bag or breaking, etc. Seen a little of that throughout this thread....

what's the deal? Will GG replace them? Does it happen often?

Yes it will! Just flick the unit on and wait for the status light to indicate it has recognized the course, usually takes my unit about 2 minutes so if I do it in the parking lot when I get out of the car, it is all good to go by the time I hit the first tee.

Also, if I can get it for $100 out of pocket (got a $100 gift card for my bday) is it worth that? Were you all glad you spent $200 on it or did you get it discounted somehow? Would you spend that money again?

Duffner,

There's a much better chance of them breaking than of them falling out, but I'd say the chances of them breaking are not great either. I did have one break on my lob wedge, which is funny because it's not even in the bag for all rounds and for those rounds it is in the bag, it doesn't get used much. I sent an email to their customer service with some photos and within an hour they said they'd be sending a new tag out. Worked with no problem. I've not had a problem with any other tags breaking at all. They're definitely showing their signs of use, including scuffs from being dropped into the bottom of the bag, but nothing appears to be ready to break.

I paid $250 for mine when it first came out. I'd say I'd spend the money again if I were going to, especially now that it's down to $200. The biggest problem I've had is keeping the unit charged. I will often get to the course and remember that I forgot to charge it and can't use it for that round. I need to get into a better habit of editing right after the round and then just leaving it on the charger, but too often I'm taking my laptop and using it for something else and just take the GG unit off of the charger. The releases from GG seem to indicate that they're committed to continuing to progress what stats are available and make the product better.

Edit: The complaint about the battery is not to say that I'm not happy with the battery life of the unit, but rather with my own habit of not getting it charged prior to playing.

GPS isn't fool proof. Consumer GPS accuracy is +/-3 meters.
