I've witnessed three, had two myself. Felt the same way witnessing as I did making mine.

One I witnessed actually made me happy for a guy I'd never had much respect for. Another came 5 holes after I had just made my first one. That was probably the best feeling I've ever had on a golf course, seeing my best friend/coworker make his first ace 5 holes after my first one.

One gal I play golf with most of the time has had NINE holes-in-one....she's about a 15 handicapper, but was much lower at one time. She hasn't had one in about 2 yrs or so and she thinks she's way overdue. She even had a hole-in-three once....first shot went OB, then her next shot off the tee went in the hole.

Witnessed one a couple of years ago, guy in our regular foursome got one on the 11th at Las Vegas National. Sadly, later that year he had a major stroke and couldn't play golf again.

Last year, I witnessed an albatross on the 3rd hole of Paiute-Snow Mountain. Well struck 6-iron hit the front of the green and rolled 15 yards right into the cup. Then 2 days after Christmas I had my first eagle, I've come so close but no cigar yet for the HIO.

Regular Sunday game and the 10th hole is a 130 yard Par 3. Easiest hole on the course. Everybody hits and heads to the green except the worst golfer in our group, who is in the clubhouse still. I'm about 20 feet off the left side of green and hear a "thunk" behind me. Look back and here comes a ball rolling past my feet and onto the green...and straight in the cup! He pulled it 15 yards off line, hit a cypress root and drained it. He didn't even see it because he hit it so bad he jumped in the cart and took off!
Our tradition is $1 greenies, $20 hole in one per man so we all paid up...

I have witnessed 2....
dont have one myself...Yet

Last one was in the "lucky" catagory...guy was a 20 something Hdcp and booting it around for the first 11holes.we come to the 12th..165yrd straight & flat hole...guy pulls out his hybrid and hits a skulled laser 140yrds...ball bounces left..then right...rolls out and drops.
rather be lucky than good I guess...

I have seen six and two of them were my own.

In my regular foursome we have an agreement that if we are playing together and one of the group makes a hole in one we each owe $100 to that individual...I was a witness and lost a $100 to the worst golfer in the group. He hit a 5wood from 160 that sliced 30 yards, one hop and in.

I have had a few very close misses this year for a hole in one. I almost slam dunked a 125ydr, and rolled right over the hole on a 198 ydr. Both were great shots, but it takes a break of some kind, something sort of spiritual, to get one to go in. About five years ago I had an eagle as I holed my 2nd shot on a par 4 from 168 yards out. That was fun, but it didn't really excite me too much, not like a hole in one would.

I've seen three so far and they were all within a year of each other. My wife was the first, 127 yarder. She was just coming out to play a few holes before starting her twilight league the next night. It was her first year of playing and she took an 11 on the par 5 number 1, 7 on the par 4 number 2 and then aces the third. She didn't see it go in because she was just happy it went towards the green. Luckily her twilight partner was with us and could vouch. Then later that summer, one of my best friends hits it in on the 15th hole at our course, a 162 yarder. Then in my twilight league, a guy I was playing against hit it in on the 167 yard 7th hole. I saw a hole in one on 3 of the 4 par 3's at my club in a year. Hoping that I get mine soon so I can stop hearing everyone say that they have one and I don't. But I have holed out for for eagle twice from the fairwary and once for a birdie, just gotta get that same shot from a tee box now.

Never had one.... Never seen one.

Tbh, I don't think they exist.

Those ones you see on tv... Well that's probably trick of the camera, smoke and mirrors, etc,,,,

Same with me. Had a few lip around the hole but nothing has dropped yet. Maybe one of these days...

I've seen 2 and have come real close a bunch of times, but don't have any yet myself.

The first one I saw was a complete accident. In HS, my cousin was trying to hit a ball at some friends on the next tee box and sliced one onto the green, 2 hops and down.

The second one was a downhill par 3 and my buddy topped it. Bounced about 37 times and rolled in.

I've hit plenty of good shots into par 3s and those two have made holes in one with swings only a mother could love. I'm not bitter or anything :)

My dad's first hole in one came in a round with me, when he absolutely thinned an iron shot. Never got more than 20 feet off the ground, we heard it hit the pin quite loudly but couldn't see it. I was looking around the green as we walked up thinking it had probably ricocheted. It was only after a few minutes that we looked in the cup.

I also witnessed three hole in ones in a six month periods from one of my friends in high school. The second of which was a hole in one on a driveable par-4. After the third one a month or so later, me and my buddies all reacted the same "you lucky motherf***".
I have had 2 and have seen 36 others.
Really, that many? That's amazing!
I have played for 42 years. Estimated 7500 rounds in my life.
That's still an astonishing number.

I've been playing for 25 years and seen/been a part of a grand total of 4.

I honestly don't really "get" the whole hole-in-one thing. The "ace" part of it really doesn't mean nearly as much to me as does the distance from which you hole a shot--regardless of whether or not its for ace, eagle, or birdie.

It's a milestone. There's no other 'goal' like it and no other way to reach putting a (1) on the score card. It's the ultimately goal, tee shot to the bottom of the cup. :)

I'll wager that it is THEE most recognized and understood achievement in the whole game, world wide, barr none.

:)

Not always an impressive feat of skill (although it's pretty hard to shank one right into the cup) , but neither is winning the lottery and that's the life long dream of most too.

A buddy of mine has played well over 1000 rounds and still doesn't have one. A mutual friend of ours said he recently made his first and instantly my friend without an ace said "4th hole, with the pin in the front?"

"Yep"

I thought it funny he knew exactly where the pin was, and was already trying to find a reason to think it was lucky. That pin location is in a bowl where the odds are higher. 160 yards out...I don't care where the pin is, that's a good shot. The guy who made the ace had only played golf for 5 months which burned my buddy up even more.

Same guy stopped letting a friend use his clubs after a good hole because he seriously thinks a club only has so many birdies in it. Hilarious.

they had 4 in a row on the same hole in Toronto a few years back, bottom right pin and balls spin back that way

I saw a wild one where I got paired up with a senior couple who had just finished telling me that the husband had made his first ace in 40 yrs of golfing the previous week on hole 16

We get to 10 and I make a 2 on a par 4 (the wife went nuts) and I started telling them how many under my aggregate lows are at the course etc etc

You guessed it, we get to 12, our signature hole, and the wife makes her first ace. Very mild reaction, like "oh well" and then she kept talking about my eagle

Congrats, the feeling is awesome.

My first one I didn't get to see go in, though I knew I had pured it when struck, as was into the early AM sun.

My second one was one hop, roll about a foot and in, which I saw....as I know those are pretty much pure luck, I didn't get near as excited as the guys I was playing with. The one guy went crazy just seeing an ace.
