It's not so much that they are bringing back the Classics, they are taking out a new line which is the 1857 line. They shoes do look very similar to the old Classics...the point where they are not similar is the price. I think they were looking at an RRP of $700 plus.

I would love the Classics to come back but not at that price.

Agreed. If FJ was reasonable and came out with a line that was comparable to Classics plus the cost of inflation, I'd be all in. I will never think about buying golf shoes for the suggested 1857 price points.

That's certainly not an 1857 price. :swoon:

I'll stick with my Icon Blacks. Comfortable, stylish, and well made for well under half the price.

Still can't believe how little push FJ have made for the Icon Blacks. Genuinely the best combination of old school style/design and comfort that I have ever had in a golf shoe.

The problem was that FJ was subsidizing the price of the classics before they phased them out. They did that to keep the Brockton, Mass. shoe plant open as long as they could. The Classics should have been selling for about $500 in 2008 for them to just barely make a profit at that handmade shoe plant. Handmade shoes of any kind are not cheap!

The 1857 line is a very small offshoot for people with lots of discretionary funds. :-)

Every now and then I will wear my Classics Dry Premiere shoes (Footjoy's last full leather sole shoe). However compared to my Icon Blacks the Blacks are more comfortable. I think is because of the hard steel screw-in spikes of the Premieres vs the plastic Fast Twist spikes system of the Icon Blacks which are softer on the feet. Both shoes are very stabile to walk and play in. However take one close look as the Premieres vs the Icon Blacks and you can see the quality of the Premieres. That said I think the Blacks are better made than the vast majority of todays golf shoes. There are exceptions but they are much more expensive.

Buy classics from eBay then have them resoled and refinished for like $100

Where can you get Classics resoled for $100? It appears that FJ's go to shoe repair facility, LaRossa is looking for $175 to be resoled. I have a nearly perfect pair that need to be resoled and would love to do so....but not at $175.

Thanks!

They must have changed it, I see the $175 price which is for the full restoration, like total rebuild. They used to have it broken down in varying degrees of repair. But then again I could be totally wrong.

I too wish they just did the soles for $100 still. I just picked up a near mint pair this winter from the ebay and the first time I wore them and knelt down, one sole split in like 5 places. I just heard it cracking like a broken window. The rest of the shoes are perfect.
