hosel depth question.

It’s not actually a hosel depth question. Hosel depth for most makes tends to be 1.25 inches. It’s a “bottom of the bore to ground” question you need to know. Where the bottom of the shaft sits in relation to the ground.

And I unfortunately do not know what Srixon is. I’ve never worked with them. Different makes actually vary.

Hopefully someone else can chime in or maybe someone has done some recent pulls.

Here’s an older thread with a good picture in it.

If I were guessing I’d say BBGM is likely 1.5 inch, but I’m guessing. It might be as low as 1.25 but that would be as the minimum for a modern iron.

That’s going to be your choices. 1.5 or 1.25. That 37.25inch shaft will play 38.75 or 38.50 inches long. Either way that is oversized for a 5 iron.

Quick question that has probably been asked before......If a shaft is 37.25 for example, what length would it play in a Srixon z745 5 iron head?

Play length minus net shaft length minus grip cap = Bottom of bore to ground, but if you dont want to pull the shaft to find out, you can make a estimate this way.

Measure from the hosel top to the grip end,

subtract grip cap with 1/8" if grip is on

Add 1.25" as insertion (most likely)

Now you have a estimate of net shaft length.

Play length - minus grip cap - minus net shaft length = BBGM

Usually when you want info about a particular model, it's usually best to put that model name in the title. That will give you the best chance to find someone that has the right experience.

e.g. "Srixon z745 playing length?" or "Srixon z745 shaft length?"

Add 1.25" as insertion (most likely)

Unless it's a TM head - they tend to be pretty stingy with the boring for their irons. For the 4 or so set's I've dealt with, they were all 1-1/8" or even a bit less.

Hmmm, In general Japan uses metric and that means its 32 mm as insert (1 2/8" is 31.8 mm)

We should corporate and put together a tread with HOSEL SPECS only, and for all clubs from drivers to wedge

Non of us have them all, but some or many, so if we uploaded specs for all them we have measured, we end up with something of high value for all of us.

Ideal would be specs who identify the head model, loft, measured head weight, insert dept and bottom of bore to ground, and clubs with adjustable hosels should contain connector/sleeve compability with other heads.

Its strange that a tread like that dont excist here, or does it?

I agree it's a great idea.

I can't remember if it was exactly for that - but there have been some other threads trying to accomplish something similar. But unless we can convince the mods to make it sticky, it doesn't really take all that much time for them to be so far down in the queue that they effectively get lost and forgotten.

Lets do it anyway, and as long as the regular users of the forum knows about it, bookmark it, and share it every-time someone asks, it will do just fine even if its not a pinned Topic. Im back in Denmark at the moment, and is looking on my large box of paper notes....so i know i have this specs for quite a few heads of different brands, both them i traded with and others who came in the door, but i have to collect them from each spec sheets.

the more specs we provide for each head, the better, so if we can get Brand name, Model, BBGM, Insert dept, Loft and Weight, this would be useful for years to come.

Most Mizuno's are 1.25" insertion. Remember though, that information has nothing to do with club length.

What ever cub specs ive been asking for over the years, nobody seems to want to share them, or they never bothered to take notes of everything like i did, so the answer is NO, the only hosel spec datas i have is those ive measured myself. Thats a very limited ranges of head models compared to whats out there, so unless a specific question about a model i happens to have pops up, i see no reason to share those specs. (models made 2005 - 2015)

That's too bad. Would have been very useful.

This would have been great but it's really hard to get something like this started.  Really needs to be someone on here who works as a club builder as they probably have dozens of different heads come across their bench every day.  Once they get the database large enough then it would get enough attention to keep itself going but getting enough in their to start for it to gain traction is the hard part.

I've had heads within the same set vary by as much as 1/4" so unfortunately there is no substitute for measuring each head during the build.
