T-MB Distance issues

Has anyone had trouble with their 716 T-MB head distance wise? Up until last fall I used a normal 4 iron matching my set but I switch to get a little more forgiveness or so I thought. I am getting very inconsistent distances with my TM-B iron. Off the deck I am about 220 carry with my 4 iron and when I hit it off the tee it’s about 235 with roll. I feel like about 1 out of every 4 shots is significantly less. Lofts were the same between my 900 Tours and the TM-B. Anyone else experienced this?

Just a wild guess but a strike higher up in the face may produce a significant drop in spin which could drop it out of the sky too soon, costing you distance. Most better players dont like playing cavities like this because if inconsistent “flyers”

I have a 5-P set of 718 T-MBs and I find them to be very consistent on good & decent strikes (no unexplained fliers and get exactly what I expect), but they definitely aren't as forgiving as something like the AP3.

But, if it feels like you're hitting it close to flush I'm surprised you are seeing that result.

I love my T-MBs but I do feel they lose some ball speed when hit very thin (without blading them). I notice I can hit the 3-iron consistently 240+ carry with roll when it comes down off the tee, but rarely hit it over 235 off the deck and (thankfully) less roll.

I don't think its an issue with the sticks though, I love them so much and typically it is easier to get max distance with a ball teed up compared to off the deck with any club.

The distance loss hasn’t come on shots that were struck well. I will say I notice it more when I try and flight it lower or get a little more out of it so it could be the fact that I’m compressing a little more and catching it higher on the face causing the distance loss. They do look knuckleball like so that may be exactly what’s happening. Thanks for the help!

I'd say in comparison to most utility irons / driving irons, the T-MB are much more demanding. I found you needed a really good strike in testing to get results

U45 series is a lot more forgiving but it's footprint and sole are significantly bigger as well. I do find about 15 more yards off the tee, but distances are consistent. They launch high and straight.

I had a set with no distance issues between any clubs - very consistent for me.

T-MB are actually not that forgiving.. i mean they are more so than the MBs, and the CB's but the AP2 have a bigger sweet spot across the face.. Hits higher on the face lose significant distance..
