Abraham Ancer's custom Miura irons - Oct 2019

Those irons look amazing. Pure beauty!

Perhaps someone can educate me, but why would you want the muscleback weight removed right where you hit the ball? Seems like it wouldnt respond as well / feel as good.

Its just doing the same thing a cavity back iron does; removing weight from one place to allocate it somewhere else for the purpose of changing CG and adding forgiveness. Traditional blades have their sweetspot favored slightly towards the heel so you will sometimes see measures taken to move discretionary weight towards the toe to offset this. Yes it will feel different, but it won't "respond worse" or anything like that. If it did then he wouldn't be playing them i'd imagine. My guess is that slightly chunkier toe on those "cavity" irons is designed for this purpose as the longer irons become progressively lighter and are thus more affected by weight of the hosel pulling the CG towards the heel.

Aren't these rebadged gikens with MB101's in the short irons?

I love everything about Miura/MG irons except for the amount of offset. Ordered the CB-1008's and returned them because the offset in the 7-4i was just too noticeable.

Yeah, exactly. He went back to the 5005 for the longer irons, but the short ones are the new MB101s. Wonder why he ditched the MC501s he was carrying earlier in the year? I have his same combo set that he played with previously. It was CB301 long irons and MC501 short irons. I don't like the 301s becuase everything comes out with not enough spin. I started replacing them one by one with the 501s because those things are just pure!!! I always liked the MB5005 look, and Ancer played them even before he had a deal with Miura. Think I'll stick with the 501s in the longer irons and maybe add the new 101 blades in like 7-P.

I'm thinking of sticking with my 501's in the longer irons and going MB101 everything else as well. I love the 501's but don't love the amount of offset on the shorter irons. It is very strange to me how the 4 iron has less offset then the 8 iron, etc.

I read somewhere that JDM clubs have "reverse offset". That seems counter-intuitive but they also gave us self-parking cars so there's that. :#
