Srixon U85 - Shaft Pairing

Hey everyone,

Love being a member of the forum and appreciate all the feedback thus far. Thank you in advance for some help on this.

I recently purchased a U85 3i 20*, loving this thing. However I don’t think the stock recoil 95 F4 is the right match for me. The ball flight is good, it just always leaks lazy fade right. My SS with is right around 88-90mph with it. I think it might be due to the tip just being a little whippy. I’m not crazy familiar with graphite’s in irons, but by judging the size of this clubs body, I’d imagine it’s a pretty heavy hammer weight wise, due to that maybe a lighter shaft weight is needed?

Curious on what people are playing out there in their driving irons or the U85 or if anyone has faced a similar issue and found a shaft they like that has a nice profile but possibly a lower torque tip or something they are timing up well.

Just bought one with the same shaft to test out. Thing is a rocket launch. I’m around 100mph with the same loft and shaft and it just goes dead straight for me BUT it spins a bit and goes pretty high like a hybrid. Want to do something heavier and stiffer. Have you been on flightscope/trackman to get some club data? Shaft isn’t going to change your path or face to path so if that’s the problem (more likely than shaft droop) you’re going down an expensive rabbit hole.

I used the same shaft as I have in my irons, cut it down 1/2".

I have steelfiber i95's in both mine, rocket launchers.....just go get fit!! easiest way!

I’m loving it as well and I’m really digging the bulk of it at address, huge confidence builder. I’ve been on a sim, path and face both look pretty solid and I don’t have that issue with any other club. The stock torque rating on its 3.9, in perspective the steelfiber 110 is 1.9, much stiffer tip. What shaft are thinking of swapping in there? Thanks!

For sure - Unfortunately those resources aren’t as available where I live. What has been your experience with steelfiber 95s? That was the same shaft I was just researching but in 110g. Their spec sheet says they have a pretty low torque at 1.9. You feel like it’s got a pretty stout tip and control? Thanks!

yes. Its solid for sure. I can control it an do anything with it I want. It's very close to steel dynamic gold, but with lighter weight and softer feeling, less vibration etc IMHO. I have the i110 in my irons and wedges and love them too.

Not crazy firm, but feels more stable than UST F4 that comes in them. One I bought here already had the Attas then I bought another with stock UST and put the Attas in since I liked it so much. Comes in three profiles, mine is the higher launch profile.

Anyone used a steel shaft? I am in the same boat...

using an ad di 95s in my u85. i naturally hit a very slight fade, but dont feel like its losing much or leaking too far with this combination.

I was just looking at this as well. I play GD in my driver and 3w. Love them. Did you have the stock UST in it previously? How does it feel? Does it play soft to flex in the iron shafts? Thanks!

I tried project x Lz and was not a fan in it. I played previously with driving irons 100 TX Tensei white and much prefer that feeling.

I have not gamed the stock UST, but I have hit for an hour or so on a monitor. Was more interested in testing the u85 clubhead with a similarly weighted shaft as the ad di 95. To me the recoil F4 is softer and was a little easier to miss both ways. Had a good pop to it though and seemed to launch in a similar window. Had a ball flight that I could game. Not a bad stock offering. i play a hybrid with the ad di 85 and just some replication of that feel, control, flight.

I bought a 4 23* last season and had a DG120 X100 steel shaft put in. I loved it at first, and it was a perfect 200 yard club for me. For some reason toward the end of the season i fell out of love with it, realized they gave me the steel shaft at graphite length. I put together a P790 5 iron I had bent strong and hit that so much better. So if anyone wants the old one let me know lol.

I have a modus 105 in s flex in mine. I love it. It does leak a touch to the right for me, but I'm a natural drawer of the ball with a low snap hook well within reach at all times, so I actually enjoy seeing a 5 yard fade at the end of my u85's flight, it makes me feel all warm and safe! Ball flight is higher than any of my other 4 irons though.

Same exact boat for me with being a natural drawer of the ball. That is why I was trying to figure out the leaky fade situation hahaha :) I ended up throwing a Steelfiber 95i in it, way better and less fade now it has the exact same flight you reference above, consistent and controlled. The stiffer tip and lower torque on the SF did the job over the higher torque and softer tipped recoil.
