Women's golf set recommendations?

My wife is a beginner. Any recommendations on a complete set? I've been looking at Tour Edge Lady Edge, Wilson Magnolia and Callaway Strata Ultimate. The Tour edge has higher lofts on their woods and hybrids which seems to make sense.

Budget is $399 to $599.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve got ideas o. What I want clubs to look like but my wife has no such preconceptions. She hit some of the Cleveland launcher hb turbos and they were so much easier for her. She can hit them in the air and really enjoyed them. I would keep an open mind towards that sort of thing. My wife is a short hitter and good hybrids and/or a 7 wood are the most important clubs in her bag. she never hits an iron less than a 7 and rarely less than a 9. She is 50 though...

Tour Edge is great for the budget. If she doesn't mind playing something used take a look at one of the newer Adams Bag set releases, I think they were called "New Idea" and came in a variety of colours. While it is impossible to predict if she will hit them well as in if she likes lighter or heavier feels etc., they are very easy to hit, have weaker lofts and hybrids down to the 6i with a driving iron kind of thing in the 7 and 8 irons IIRC. They were a hit at the store I worked at. Has all of the tech of the more modern Taylormade and Adams clubs with the velocity slots on the woods and irons too, which is nice, and I think if memory serves even came with a Yes! Putter, but that might have been an older model I was thinking of before TM took over.

I know it will kill people here but i bought my daughter who was a beginner 2 season ago, a box set at Dick sporting good of Top flights. It was a nice setup with a bag and all. I traded in clubs to get it. So it was free, as she has progressed i have updated her clubs slowly. I did this since i wasnt sure she would stick with it, she is now trying out for her golf team. If she didnt stick with it, even if i paid i would have been out 300 max.

You don't mention how tall your wife is.

Mine is only 4-foot-9, and has had trouble in past finding clubs that fit. Way back in 1989 she got irons and early metal woods from the Nancy Lopez Petite line by Square Two. The early Petite lines were designed for women 5-foot-2 and under, shafts an inch shorter than standard women's lengths. (Because so many female fashion models are tall and leggy, people don't realize that a good portion of women fall in the Petite zone.)

She now plays with an Adams Idea petite set, which was tweaked by the factory and a local clubfitter in the Adams' final year. It has a 12* driver, and she is longer with her 5W than her driver. We'll probably get her a custom driver build soon.

The golfer's height and leverage issue comes into play especially for driver and fairway woods. The standard 12* driver in many boxed sets or women's single drivers may not be enough loft for shorter women, or players with low clubhead speed. One option would be the Cobra women's F-MAX Superlite and F-MAX AirSpeed drivers - both offer 15* loft heads.

Likewise, GolfWorks offers the Maltby M890 Forged driver with a 14* loft option. This loft is recommended for players with a driver swing speed of 60 MPH or less. You can either buy the head and shaft for a local clubsmith to build, or have GolfWorks assemble it for you. The Maltby crew has developed a special shaft to go with the M890 head.

I think it depends on how athletic your wife is and how tall, etc. My wife is fairly tall and plays mens clubs just with R flex graphite shafts. If there's any way to get a pro to look at her swing with various clubs, you may get a good idea on what direction to go. Also lots of great used clubs available once you figure out what she needs. I ordered a set of Tour Edge 2019 Lady Edge with cart bag for $249 plus tax and free shipping from Touredge.com. It has a driver, 2 fwy, 2 hybrids and 8-SW and putter. Not bad. I must have bought the last set as it shows sold out now.

I originally bought my girlfriend a complete set of Wilson's to start last year. She picked it up quicker than I anticipated so I got her a Cobra F max driver and she's picked up 30 yards with it. I'll definitely be looking at finding a set of the F max for her to try once we can get out again.

Did the exact same thing for my wife to help her learn. Now she’s got all Callaway clubs and gave the top flites to her sister

Recommendation: Are you certain you want to do this?

My wife is no longer what I would call a "beginner", but she absolutely loves her set of Cobra Fly Z clubs. Irons and hybrid mix. She was playing an older ADAMS set.

They can be had used for a fairly good price. I would shy away from the Fly Z XL's though. They never seemed to be a decent seller.... that should indicate something.

I bought my wife the same set of Top Flite box set and it worked out great for her first couple of seasons. Will think about upgrading clubs for the start of next season. Congratulations on your daughter going for golf team. If you haven't already, might be time to get her fitted! 

My daughter has been playing Cobra F6 for past couple seasons and my wife still plays an older set of Cobras.  Ladies Cobras can be found very reasonable compared to mens clubs.  Dallas Golf usually has some good deals.
