TaylorMade M6

I just think that Taylormade sold the absolute crap out of the M5 driver. And that was more about the competition on the shelves not being so alluring plus the fact that if you're paying that much, why not get the most adjustable model?

Taylormade was coming off a solid but unspectacular period with the M3/M4 so they were due for a hit, too. The M5/M6 launch seemed to generate buzz and the alternatives didn't seem so popular. The #1 thing that drives this is advertising. Who's in the ads for TaylorMade? Tiger, Rory, Dustin, Rahm, Brooks, J-Day, etc. All the big guys of that moment. That's far and away the best stable of drivers out there as far as sales go.

By comparison, Cobra uses Rickie (who looks like a kid and doesn't win majors and who isn't a long hitter). They also use Lexi (who besides me watches LPGA?!) Callaway uses an old guy (Phil) as well as a younger guy that few people actually care much about (Xander). Ping is who at this point? Is Ping still all about Bubba or has the world moved on?

Taylormade just seems to have the best guys. They've got Tiger and Rory plus a ton of other talent that's going to get hot during certain stretches: DJ, Rahm, Brooks, Day, etc.

With the M5 you had nearly all the big names playing it for a really extended period including the biggest two (Rory & Tiger). Oh, and during that stretch Tiger regained his form and won the Masters...which, let's be honest, might be the single greatest sporting moment any of us watch in our lifetimes. It was timing.

Is the M5 a better driver than the M3? They're nearly identical. But the M5 sold better. IDK, it just had a moment. I think the simple fact that the M5 sold so well means there's inevitably going to be a ton of them available on the used rack.

It's just something that happens with certain clubs. You can always track down '07 Burners and 910 Titleist models and some of those original RBZ clubs, too. It's not because they're bad. They just happened to sell really well while equally solid alternatives like the AeroBurner and 915 Titleist lines didn't for whatever reason.

Exact same scenario for me. Tried both the SIM MAX and SIM and neither performed as well as the M6.

TM says every new thing is way better. All OEMs do. To me the SIM line is hardly a step up. I don’t care for the shape (or the silly name). To my eye does not look as appealing as the M6. Played with a guy last week who excitedly bought a SIM because it was so long in indoor testing. He seems to hit everything but the fairway with it and I bet he unloads it soon and returns to Ping. Pretty strong player too. We make jokes about it: “SIM must mean in your practice sessions you’ll need to start simulating shots from the woods!”

M6 is superior IMO and quite forgiving. Have an M6 3 fairway that is so good it got me interested in the driver.

I've been gaming a full M6 line-up this year after having played two round with them as rental sets over the winter - made the jump up from the 2017 M2 which I think were some of TMs best clubs to date. I find the M6s to be far more forgiving and in addition to gaining +10-15 yards on my drives, I'm finding alot more fairways.

The M6 3W is probably one of the best clubs I've hit, and I was really enjoying it until the face cracked across the topline.. waiting to see what TM will send me back in exchange..

There are countless posts on golfwrx about users loving the sim and having real gains over previous models. I'm not defending sim or taylormade. I'm simply saying that your one experience with one person you know can't be used to form blanket statements. That's pretty much true with any equipment. Yes, they all claim the newest is better... that's marketing. However, there are slow gains every year as technology pushes forward.

I didn’t make a blanket statement. I clearly said in my opinion the SIM is not an upgrade, I don’t find the shape appealing and I shared an anecdote from a guy I play golf with. I hardly said he represents everyone. The forum is for opinions. I will say I do not believe there are slow gains every year due to technology. That’s what OEMs want us to believe.

Starting from 16 m2, I've played every iteration of the m line's non adjustable model (except 17m2). I tried the m6 last year. It was a bit better than m4 (which I found really fade biased) but I had an issue with pulls. It was a driver that was super straight most drives but every once in a while it would get left on me. As a fader...no bueno. That led me to the m5. The m5 was really, really good and made me a firm believer in heel/toe adjustability. My fairways hit % went up. I shot sub 70 twice simply because I wasn't giving shots away with bad drives. I tried the m1 and m3 models and didn't care much for them.

However, the biggest thing I noticed with m5 was that I was shorter. I was not hitting it to spots I hit the m4.

Along came SIM. Once I got it dialed in...man, great, great driver. I personally believe sim was a major step up in overall driver performance.

I have an M6 in my rotation, also a TS3 and G410. I tried the Sim Max and Mavrik earlier this year but they did not make the rotation. The M6 is a great driver. I might add an ST200......

Not a worry. I’m definitely not a scratch golfer who can get down to the finer points anyway, so very likely I’ll get similar results from a wide range of drivers. A lot of it for me is preference when I look down at a driver at address for the first time. Right away I get one of three feelings: 1. I can hammer this thing, 2. Kind of a blah, neutral feeling, 3. Not comfortable.

Both the M6 and M6 D-Type were immediately in category 1 for me. So is the Srixon 585, more than the 785. And Ping g400. Of the SIMs, I liked the look of the DType best.
