I have a set of these, 3-PW. My very first irons.

Anyone heard of them? I cannot find anything about them on the internet.

Talk about a blast from the past. My mom bought a set of Foxbat irons back in the EARLY 80's. They were good clubs (they had a low profile design that helped get the ball up). My mom loved them.

Those are pretty unique looking. I'd love to see a picture at address/topline.

And a 29 degree 5 iron! That's what I'm talkin' about! I think lots of manufacturers would stamp a "7" on that club these days.

Wow, I remember these from the early 80's. Foxbat was a small golf equipment manufacturer just a couple of blocks down the road from where I worked in Dallas. I used to go there many times at lunch and hit clubs. Came very close, but for whatever reason, never bought any. They also made some beautiful persimmon drivers at the time when metal drivers were just catching on.

Half the clubs, twice the fun!

That's interesting. Do you know if they are still in business?
How much did they irons retail for back then?
It's very strange I cannot find a single thing on them on the internet.

I seriously doubt that they are still in business. I left Dallas in 1988, but continued to visit the area quite a few times since. I do not recall seeing them after maybe the early 90's.

Their equipment was not cheap... if memory serves me correctly, I think a set of 8 irons was around $400-500. They prided themselves in custom fitting... even back then. You could walk from the tiny retail showroom in the front into the shop area in the back where they built and distributed their clubs.

When mom got her set, I remember driving out there for her to get fit. Back then, fitting was a rarity.
So unusual looking at address! I love seeing stuff like this that people randomly have, forgotten/tucked away somewhere.
These were my very first set of iron. I learned golf using these babies. They are as forgiving as an 80 years old syphilitic grandma with migraine. And they weight a ton.
I bought them pre-owned, along with an equally crappy Lynx driver and an Orbiter putter for $200 from my first golf instructor. A total ripoff, that's what I realized later. Back then I had no idea about anything and he made me think I was getting a good deal.

I still use these to practice swing at home, without hitting actual balls.
They look pretty unique, I am really interested in the club designs your were doodling on pic 1 and 4 on your post with the pics
Hahahaha!
I was wondering how long would it take someone to notice them.
Usually when I'm bored during studying I *try* to design clubs. Needless to say, all my tries miserably fail. My artistic touch is not something I can brag about.

Oh, no no, I do not have a folder stashed up with designs. Not really. I just make a drawing or two on any sheet of paper as you can see and they end up in the waste bin. Nothing serious at all.

 • 1 year later...

Reviving a dead thread here--was looking up information on FoxBat irons and found this thread. Great stories. Like others here, my first set of clubs were a set of Foxbats. Hand-me-downs from my dad; they originally came from Dallas.

Mine were a set of muscle backs. There was a lot of metal in those heads! I too could not find much info on them. And given my skill level at the time (and now), playing with muscle backs, I'm surprised I stuck with the game. :)

I have a set 3- 9, PW,SW; Driver , 3, 4,5 Metals; I have been playing since 1994. I have a second set that I purchased in the '80's. They were low profile with urethane insert. I have enjoyed both sets. They were from Fox Bat in Dallas. It was a company started by two gentlemen who were employed by Ping, i believe.. The older set had Persimmon woods; mine were fitted with graphite shafts.
