Golf Books

So my girlfriend says I should read in my spare time rather than watching golf all day long... so i figure, why not read a golf book lol. Any recommendations out there?

Educational or historic or fiction?

 

Educational I would suggest something like golf is not a game of perfect or zen golf.

 

Historic something by Mark Frost. The Greatest Game Ever Played or The Match.

 

Fiction four iron in the soul.

 

Others - final rounds or an American caddie in St. Andrews.

The Greatest Game Ever Played, The Match, Tommy’s Honour, and The Grand Slam: Bobby Jones, America and the story of Golf are all great books.

 

A couple of these will make you appreciate Bobby Jones and Old Tom Morris for their impact on the game of golf. In particular, I had no idea just what a GOAT Bobby Jones was until I read the book. I knew of him, of course, but in my opinion today’s golf “analysts” seem to forget how great he was.

Who's your Caddy is a great book by Rick Reilly. Each chapter is about a different famous or interesting person hee caddies for. Easy entertaining read.

The Green by Troon McAllistar and The BackNine by Billy Motte. My two favorite fiction books, I’ve read each one numerous times.

Also, Dan Jenkins and Rick Reilly’s fiction books are very good.

If you are looking for “instruction type” books, I would recommend Golf is not a Game of Perfect (rotella), Unstoppable Golfer (rotella), Short Game Bible (Pelz) and Little Red Book (Penick). Little red book wasn’t so much helpful to my game but was light and made a lot of sense.

I read the Match on my way to Cypress and proceeded to get so geeked up about the course I fired about 220, but it was a good read. American Caddie was interesting. I would avoid Fejertys book and Alice Coopers book. Well, Alice’s book when he wasn’t pushing Callaway or writing about the golf was interesting, but unfortunately it was a golf book.

Golf in the Kingdom is pretty popular... slightly quirky. Legend of Bagger Vance is a great BOOK. Hogan by Sampson (I think). Be a player. Some of the cited Bob books.

Any of the collections of golfing short stories by P.G. Wodehouse.

Funny and insightful vignettes by one of the UK's great 20th century writers.

Found in Goodwill: signed first edition of Billy Casper's 2012 book, "The Big Three and Me" with a foreword by Arnie, Jack and Gary.
