Old Man Rant - New Golf Shoes Look Cheap

Saddlebacks and long pants look good.

Saddlebacks and short pants look dorkey (on men, anyway).

Dress shoes (including dressy golf shoes) just don't go with short pants.

AdiPower Bounce had some of the firmest insole-footbed combinations I've ever worn. immediately replaced the insoles for a more comfortable walk.

new pair of Ecco Biom Hybrids just got replacement insoles as well.

I wear NB sneakers, maybe I should look at their golf line.

Bought my first pair of non old man golf shoes a few weeks ago. Went with the Skechers Go golf Foucus model. Like wearing a pair of bunny slippers with softspikes. Uh huh.

I've been wearing the Adipures (in white) since the start of last season (Spring 2018 here in the Midwest). I walk just about every round I play, and I must say, they are comfortable, have held up well (almost look brand new, even for white!), and were worth every penny.

My only gripe is that they are a bit slippery on those extra dew-y mornings, but even then they have not been much of an issue.

I love classic golf shoes!!! These will look good with shorts (at least for some of us who grew up when these were being worn on tour).

The flaps over the laces on golf shoes back in the day were called "kilties".

 

And I also prefer my FJ Classics Tour to the modern sneaker styles too.

While I agree that the vast majority of these shoes look terrible, they are infinitely more comfortable than shoes of yore. I recall, when I sI'tarted playing in the late 80s, getting a pair of white FJ classics...never were comfortable, and eventually I tossed them.

I play mostly muni golf...which means I look like I'm going to the gym, not kinkos!

Classic golf shoes had an infinite lifespan. Keep them polished with saddle soap, and change the spikes every so often, and you could get a decade or more out of them easily. An heirloom is not good for the shoe manufacturers' bottom line. Synthetic shoes with rubber, permanent spikes are "disposable.". They have a limited lifespan and mist be replaced. Shoe companies win!! Give the consumers options as long as they have to purchase every couple of seasons!!

Ebay has a lot of Footjoy Classics available. Some of these are pretty cheap but are worn. The ones that are new old stock are going to cost a pretty penny but close to what they were back in the day, certainly with the inflated dollar. My problem is I need an extra wide shoe (EEE) so these are few and far in between.

I'm an old man so I can rant … the new sneaker style golf shoes look like crap. But - don't kid yourself - they are infinitely more comfortable for walking 18 holes than the "classics" of yesteryear. I've owned FJ Classics and lots of other leather soled shoes. Walk 18 holes with Skecher Go Golf shoes and compare to a pair of well worn FJ Classics - I will bet you anything you want your feet will enjoy the Skecher day better. It's just another example of some things in the good old days that really weren't so great …..
