Music on a golf course

Recommended Posts

If a guy in your group puts on music, and it's low, would it bother you. Based on what I've seen, people seem to be divided over the topic. I'm curious to hear people's take.

I would be more bothered by him not asking first than by the music. I'm generally fine with it as long as it's not disturbing groups outside of my own. I will play music myself sometimes.

I hate it, I like being out in nature with the birds chirping and the wind whistling, it takes away from the experience for me.

Now get off my lawn ;)

Thrillhouse is back?

Did you get a 3 years suspension or hole up in the woods somewhere, without Internet service?

How long before the "Ask Thrillhouse" thread becomes active again?

It's not the fact that music is being played that is irritating to me. It's the kind of music. Music is a very personal thing for most people who really like to listen and that's where the problem lies for me. If you're playing music I like I'm cool with it. If you're not, it drives me crazy.

I actually like some soft music on the course. That said .... I played with a twosome the other day and they had a rather large blue tooth speaker amping up the sound. We generally just use our phones to listen to light music. Theirs was LOUD. I was actually embarrassed a little. So discretion is warranted.

The only solution to this is either ban music other than earphones (sounds somewhat communistic) or allow it. Since it is currently allowed on most courses .... I don't see it being outlawed any time soon. Just be courteous and leave the mega watt speakers at home.

I enjoy playing music on the course but I play it for me and my partner, not anyone else so appropriate levels are used. Mainly just for when we are in the cart. If I am on the tee box 12 feet away and can't hear it, I know someone 2 holes over ain't hearing it either. I'm sorry others have experienced people with a lack of courtesy, I would be irate as well.

Yesterday while playing, we were in the fairway of a par 5 getting ready to hit our second shots. Within about 30 yds from us there's the green of another hole & a foursome of young guys pull up to that green in two carts. Both carts were blaring rap music (different songs...if you can call them that). The four guys leave their carts parked & go onto their green, leaving their rap music blaring while they did their putting. They obviously had no concern whatsoever that their music could & did bother players on another hole. I came very close to saying something to them about it but didn't, even though I thought they were ridiculously inconsiderate.

I am probably similar to you in that I don't agree with music on the golf course, and it's a shame that some bad apples like this ruined it for the rest to play their music so only they can hear it. I have pulled up to a particular t where it was backed up a bit and the foursome in front of us had music on but very light you could barely hear it 10 feet away. For casual golf I don't mind it that much when it's done it with consideration for everybody else like these fellows were doing, but it's the ones you describe then make it nauseating. For tournaments and such I don't think music should be allowed. If people would just consider what other people want and desire as much as what they want and desire we'd all be better off.

There's a reason why people with manners, use earphones to listen to music when they're in public.

Airplanes

Trains

Walking into stores

Mails

Anyone who plays music on the golf course, that can be heard by anyone other than the individual player, is the same kind of person who's going to wear his hat in the dining room, leave the ringer on his phone turned up at a movie theater and who forgot everything his parents taught him about manners.

This times a lot!

I love music. But I love my music, not yours.

In one of the groups I play in from time to time, they like to play techno. On the golf course. Techno!

Like super-fast tempo techno!

Did I mention it was fast? And f@cking techno?

I just don't get it. It literally raises my heart rate. Can't stand playing golf to it.

Highspeed and hoselrocket showing just why golfers are thought to be no fun pretentious jerks. Seriously a guy likes to play his own version of golf and that means he's not a golf buff and even worse yet shouldn't play golf. You two are a special kind of jackWord not allowed in my books.

Wow, just having fun - your version of fun is obviously more valid than my version I see. Pot, meet kettle.

For once, you and the rules agree.

sorry, I'm not a big rules buff like you.

Why apologizing? Doesn't matter to me if you know the rules, unless you are playing in a comp with me OR throw baseless allegations out about the rules without any substance behind them.

But, I can't imagine you would ever do either of those things.

Course and situation play into it for me. I don't feel like it should be an issue at the local muni with guys out there in jeans/tshirts and other groups playing music. I really only do it if I'm alone or with friends who all agree to listen to something, and I try to keep it quiet enough that its just us who hear it, or at least turn it down in close proximity to other groups.

On the other hand, if I'm at an expensive club with a dress code and above average greens fees then there's no chance I'd cut a speaker on. Hell I'll check 3 times to make sure my phone is on silent. There's a time and place for everything imo.

Whats wrong with the sounds of life? Birds, bees, wind, trees, etc.. Part of the allure of golf for me is being out in mother nature. Can some people not go 5 hrs without Drake, CCR, or Zeppelin??

There's a common misconception that somehow music must be blasted to be listened to and it drowns out of the sounds of nature. Just not true.

While I don't prefer it on the course, last week I went out myself and walked 9 in the cold rain. Not a person in sight and I listened to music. I immediately thought of this and the many other music threads on wrx :) I also heard the rain loud and clear. :)
