Ball Closer to the middle of my stance with Driver

Recommended Posts

Real quick. I find that I have more control (hit it straighter) with my driver when I put the ball closer to the middle of my stance rather than even with my left heal at address. What am I doing incorrectly that causes this? Also, is there any drawback to me staying that way? Loss of distance etc? Should I really work to fix this issue? Thanks for your input.

I hate finding a way to hit the ball straight.

I hope you fix that problem quickly.....

I would say most people have the ball further up. It could be your swing path is more left so you put it all the way back to get yourself swinging more in to out. I say keep this if you hit the other clubs well. I would stand on my head if it helps me hit the ball straight.

If the ball position is truly middle like you said the only drawback is your angle of attack would de down unless you move your body in some compensating move to hit level. So what could happen possibly alot more spin, yes straighter, loss of some distance unless your at 120 mph and a square clubface and center hit and path is not out of whack.

hmmm could be a few things. Post of vid or if your content with the new shot then don't worry about it.

I think you are square at that part of your stance which is why it goes straight. If you are hitting the ball high enough and are happy wiht the clubs you are hitting for approach shots, there is not much to worry about. If you are not getting distance off the tee, due to a lack of air time you either move the ball forward or get a more lofted driver. In either case, it is up to you as to what you want to live with. There was not a quote as to distance you get mid stance vs playing it forward.

Are you breathing in or out? Also are you gripping more with your second and third fingers from your pinkie finger? Is your left arm completely straight in your takeaway or not? Do you lift your left heal or keep it flat. Do you wear form fitting hats or the kind with the adjustable band? hahaha... that was my fakey input, my real input is that I think it's good that you are trying different things for you. You said you have more control when you put the ball closer to the middle. Hey, is that a problem? Does that not jive with some video or some magazine article's advice? My advice as a guy who has been playing golf over 45 years, unless I'm misunderstanding and you are in long drive contests, is losing distance as opposed to gaining control is not a negative anyway. Golf is not a game of cannon fire into oblivion. Think of it as a game of darts. Precision and accuracy. It took me decades to learn this. I wish I had learned this about the game long ago. I am now enjoying golf more than ever because of this understanding. I think you took a step for you, which potentially will help you enjoy it more too. Just be careful of 'what you've heard' as opposed to 'what you know is right for you'. Also, if that's your son in the pic, you are blessed :)

Thanks. Yes that is my son and I am truly blessed. As far as distance goes, and this is with solid contact I go anywhere from 270-300 with a 105-115 ss. I do tend to launch higher with more spin but that has been toned down a bit by going with a pro launch red shaft. Probibly could go a little more high end but I like it. I guess I'm just hung up on what is supposed to be and not on what works for me. Thanks guys.
