Iron set up now consists of VRS Forged 4 iron and VPC 5-PW. I got the irons to the course for the first time last night. So far so good. It was hard to tell in distance, but the ball flight was nice. Looked to be very similar in launch to the VRS forged irons. I'm playing in an event this weekend where my club plays against another in a Ryder Cup style format. I'm playing Sunday singles, so hopefully a good review will be up this weekend. Supposed to be 65 and sunny...so the weather won't be a factor.
Will you get out before your match? Good luck.
Thx. I've won my last two singles matches after losing a few. Hope to continue the winning ways.

I'm hoping to hi them again on the course or range Sat. I'm taking my wife to Atlanta for a CPA exam. The testing center is five mins from an executive course. It has a pretty good range. Maybe some time in the simulator tomorrow.
Good luck with your match and good luck to your wife on her CPA exam. I do not miss studying for that test
Thank you.

I got to play both days this weekend with the new irons. My wife's test yesterday was four hours so I actually got to play a round at Fox Creek which is an executive course that is mostly par 3s and short par 4s. It's one par 5 played a monstrous 358. Ball striking was pretty horrendous and it really had me thinking about putting the VRS forged back in the bag for today's round.

Then came the news last night that after day one of the matches my club was down 9.5-2.5. No reason not to play the new irons.

Just a little about today's round. Our club lost, but it came down to the end. We lost 12.5-10.5. Singles at our course. I won 6 and 5. Doubled the last to shoot even par 72. My opponent could KILL it. If I hit a good one and he hit a good one..he was at least 25 ahead of me. He hit driver quite a few times when he shouldn't have though and got in some trouble. Also missed a few short putts. I hit a lot of good shots, got up and down from everywhere, and made some bombs.

Iron review: I absolutely love how the VPCs look behind the ball. I always thought the VRS looked chunky, but the performance made up for it. The VPCs are exactly what I like looks wise in an iron. A thin-ish top line, a little bit of offset, and a wide enough sole to inspire confidence without being too thick. Hope some of that makes sense. The feel is a little different from the VRS forged, but not in a bad way. It's hard to describe. Maybe just not as hot feeling as the VRS. Distance is hard to judge (due to the cooler weather yesterday, today was in the 60s), but I think they are about a half club shorter than the VRS forged. I can tweak that in my shop, so no worries there (I did check the specs Friday night at work--ugh--three clubs were upright 1-2 degrees and a couple were a little weak--I ordered std--hate adjusting brand new irons due to specs being off--rant over). The irons are very easy to control ball flight and are more forgiving than they look. My only real negative as of right now is the shafts. I'm not sold on them. The ball flight is high enough (low ball hitter here), but something just feels off with them. I might should have paid the extra for the Modus 3s or gone old school DGs300. Time will tell on that. All in all...a solid first outing. I had to guess on yardages a few times, but not once during the round did I worry over a shot. Maybe the weather here will stay nice for awhile and I can get some more rounds in with them over the next few weeks.

 • 3 weeks later...

We hosted a Bridgestone ball fitting at our store a little while back, and after going through the fitting and talking to Sam Fu (the fitter...awesome dude), we decided that I'm playing to stiff a shaft in my driver to get optimal launch numbers. It sucks cause I have the same shaft coming in the Vapor Pro. The shaft is the UST Elements Chrome 6F5T. I love the feel and control of the shaft, but the launch has gotten a little low lately.

So I made a few calls to some guys that I do club repair for to see if they had any old driver shafts not in use.

Little info on the driver shaft testing. I've hit the Devotion and the PX TI shafts over the course of the past few weeks in the simulator at my work and neither have come close to beating the Elements Chrome.

The Devotion actually launches it lower for me with even less spin. That almost immediately ruled it out, but I did give it some time. It's a no go though. It doesn't work for me ballflight wise, and the feel isn't there.

The PX is much better in the ball flight dept, but it makes the club feel like an anvil. Almost no way I could play 18 with it. It's that heavy.

So far, the Chrome remains in play. I keep wanting to try a Miyazaki Kusala White and I might have an inside track on one. If it materializes, I'll post picks and results.

36. Birdie on the first. Bogey on the last. Only got 9 in. My wife got sick and I had to leave. Migraine.

VPCs are good, but like I've said before, I'm not sold on the DG Pro shafts. Should have ordered the Modus 3s like I was going to do. Distance is kind of hard to tell due to the cold weather, but everything else has been good.

Black Volt is staying in play. I spin it at least as much if not more than the Plat around the greens. Longer off the tee. Bout the same with irons. No launch issues.

No driver. Maybe soon.

Really you get just as much spin with the blacks that you do with the platinum? Isn't the black a lot harder? How do you putt with that volt ball, doesn't seem like your putting with a range ball?

Yeah. Supposedly the Blk has a firmer cover, but I can't tell it. Ball feels great. Spins good and our greens are hard right now.

It's funny you ask about putting. It wasn't a problem until the sun came out. Then I had to back off a putt cause it looked like it was glowing. I'm making a lot of putts so it's all good.

 • 2 weeks later...

The offseason driver shaft testing has continued. Amazing how bored one can get during the winter.

I installed a Flexloft tip on a nVentix Nunchuk. First thought was that the shaft didn't make the club feel as heavy as I thought it would. Also, it didn't feel as stiff in the XX flex as you would think. I hit about fifty balls with it before deciding that it was not going to work. My normal ball speed on my simulator is around 153 or 154. The highest I could produce with the Nunchuk was 149 and I came out of my shoes to get it. I never expected a 100 gram shaft to work for me, but it was fun to try.

I also got my hands on a Miyazaki C Kua 56 Stiff. I had the Flexloft ready to install and then saw the shaft was a .350 tip. Darn it.

I think I'm going to start fooling with 3 woods next. The list to try so far:
Nike VR Ltd 3 wood w/Ahina 70 S--my gamer
Titleist 915 Fd 15 w/Whiteboard 80 Stiff
Ping G30 14.5 w/stock Stiff
Nike Flex 3 w/Blueboard 70 Stiff
TM Aeroburner 15 w/stock stiff
Callaway BB815 14 w/stock stiff---on the way
(I will be honest...these are demos we have in the store so far or on the way...i'm not buying these)
Results will be up soon.

I have no idea what's going on with the driver. They originally said that we (MNNikeguy is still waiting as well) would have our drivers within two weeks (that was Oct). Still nothing. Two weeks ago I was asked to confirm the shaft, but everyday is another letdown. My stock pcs at work are gonna beat my driver. They are tracking for tomorrow.

Thanks for reading along.

I feel that shaft would be just about perfect. Chrome stability with higher launch. :swoon:

2 notes from today.

1) The Vapor Pro finally arrived. Came with the UST Attas Elements MK 6.

2) Irons are in surgery. Pulled the DG Pro from the 5 iron and installed a DGS300. Just trying something different for a few rounds. The DG Pro feels a little "loose" I guess is the best way to say it.

That's the reason why I went with the DG S300 and not the DG Pro. Loved the feel of the pro but I figured I would prefer the original in the long run

I pretty much always played the DGS300 until getting fit for the NS Pro Protos at the Oven. They are great shafts and I don't want to pull them because of what the set means to me. DGS3 is "old-faithful" to me.

How is the S300 working in your irons?

I really want t try their new design your own shoes too. I'm thinking maybe some gold Lynch Beast Mode slippers. ;)

Early thoughts on the Vapor Pro.

The club feels much better in my hands than the CT 2.0. I haven't measured swingweight against one another yet, but the Vapor feels much lighter (good thing). I really like the sound at impact. I never had a problem with the previous Flexloft adps in size, but the FlexLoft 2 looks a lot sleaker. More like a regular ferrule. Still working on a head to head between the Pro and the CT 2.0, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing with the Vapor.

Didn't you order with the Elements Chrome though? I guess you can't be too picky with a free driver, but I thought I read that you ordered with the chrome. My mistake, if not.

No complaints. Sometimes I wish I went with the modus after reading all the great reviews but I'm loving the tight mid/low ball flight. Over the years I tried the PX, PXi, KBS after reading all the reviews and never really loved any of it. The modus might be better but I'm happy I went with the DGs. Maybe once the Nike fitting carts come out I'll test the modus and make a switch later down the road.

Now I'm just itching to get back home and pick up the vapor pro (maybe flex)

I did. Chrome was the first choice but I didn't get it for some reason. Kind of disappointed, but the MK has felt great so far.
