Left Handed Clubs - No Options

Recommended Posts

With all the technology in the world today, golfers are able to select from so many different companies and options for equipment including tour released models, custom options, and limited released.............that is if you are right handed. Odyssey putters......limited left handed options. The new Taylormade Vault......NO left handed options. Cleveland wedges.......slim pickings. Even Vokey and their custom shop has less options for left handed players. Now I understand that they have to mirror everything to make left handed clubs, and the inventory control due to less demand, but these are custom or tour models. There is plenty of left handed professionals looking for equipment that I am sure this stuff exists. Would be nice if they made that available as it seems they are starting to make it easier to attain.

The day that Ping started putting reasonable shafts in their clubs (unlike 20 years ago when it was super-stiff, lightweight steel for everyone) was a happy day for lefties. With very, very few exceptions anything Ping you want to buy is available lefty. Even generally in all lofts or close to it.

Other brands vary. Having played lefty for a couple decades I guess I've gravitated toward the brands that offer a broad range. Not just one loft in a couple models of driver and one or two irons models (Mizuno, here's looking at you).

And I just can't resist mentioning that I seem to have become somewhat of a Ping fanboy of late. So let me add in closing...

As a lefty myself I know the frustration. Not every manufacturer makes every club in left handed. I'd say there is still enough options for us lefties between the various manufacturers to choose from. My main issue is that within the lefty equipment available there isn't enough demo equipment available for those left handed products. Yes, I see I can order left handed this or that but I'd like to try it out before buying ! Manufacturers listen up ! Maybe the bigger stores or bigger cities have more in their stores. Where I'm located there aren't any left handed demos hardly. I get the old "We can order whatever you want". Ummmm...how do I know what I want if I can't try it ?? I'd like to try before buying.

Agreed with you all.. In Oregon there is a shop (Fiddler's Green) which to this day has the best selection for lefties I've found. They allowed you to take anything in the store out on the range and watch it fly. It was great..

Since I've moved to Arizona, I have not found one store that caries a decent lefty inventory (including the PGA Superstore). For large stores I do not see the risk in carrying a wide demo range to win the loyalty of a customer...

I find the biggest problem is when I'm looking for wedges in anything other than 52°, 56°, and 60°. First of all, the loft options in wedges for lefties is very limited. They're typically only available in the aforementioned three lofts, but the bounce options are even worse. I know there are exceptions to this, but generally this has been my experience.

And yes, as others have stated, demo options are extremely limited-- especially if you don't live near any larger cities. Closest golf retailers to me (Dick's and Academy... so many options) are an hour away. At either of those stores good luck if you want to try out anything other than maybe a Taylormade R11 driver in Reg flex and a random Cally 6 iron from minimum two years ago.

My biggest issue has been finding different style of putters to try. Most companies make a standard plumber neck style putter and a mallet style with a double bend shaft. Other than that, I find that our options as far as putters are pretty limited. After putters I would say next worst is probably fairway woods. We usually just get the standard 3 and 5 wood options.

As a lefty, I feel that there's more than enough left handed clubs available. Definitely not as much choice as right handed, but more than enough options. Go back 40 years or more, if a store had one or two lefty models, you were lucky. Today, no one should have any problem buying golf clubs.

Depends on what you're looking for. The basics are available, but for instance I am interested in getting a set of either Titleist MB's, Nike Pro Blades or Mizuno MP68's...hard to even find a demo anywhere.

I'm a lefty, frankly i'm not too concerned. Right now i can buy literally everything i need without problems. Low lofted drivers, 13 degree 3 woods, 16 degree hybrids, SGI, Blades, Forgings...etc

Really as long as you are brand agnostic what can't you get?

I agree that lefties can buy clubs that fit their eye if they aren't brand loyal. It's finding demos that is the hard part for most of us. We'd like to try before buying. Even buying used can get expensive in the long run.

Come on up to Canada, with 30%+ of the golfing population playing left handed we've got you covered. It always blows me away how poor the lefty selection is down south, I don't know how you guys get by.

As others have said though, Ping is by FAR the most lefty friendly company out there. I try to support them whenever I can.

The online stores get my lefty business because of the selection, however, demos for fitting requires a visit to a metro area.

I think that last part is the key. Its tough to be brand loyal and be left handed but at the end of the day theres options for everything out there. I totally understand the economic side of not producing as many lh clubs but to not offer demo opportunity's doesn't make too much sense to me

Being left handed I have found the selection is limited but decent. Imagine if they didn't make left handed clubs at all. Having to play right handed for me would be embarrassing.

Look on the bright side whenever a new driver / putter/ wedge comes out its usually the left hand clubs of the previous model still sitting in the pro shop heavily discounted .
Excepting my irons bag full of heavily discounted clubs . 910 fw and hyb , ping scottsdale putter,TM wedges.
Picked up new R1 80% off when slider came out and am waiting for a demo scotty to be further discounted , the lefty ones are all thats remaining.
Only real prob is no one wants used lh as trade or on the bay
