I mean everyone has their days, he's also the guy who autographed 5-8 golf balls and threw them into the crowd Sunday after his round at the us open
That's cool, but it's easy to be nice when the camera is on.....
I don't even think the camera was on him because he wasn't the final group Phil got the camera that whole day and the gallery aswell

He'll lose his game eventually, then his money, and then end up back in a trailer park in Bagdad, Florida.
Like I said before, I really enjoyed watching Bubba play. The scene of him holding his son and giving everyone high-5's after he won the Masters was emotional to say the least. However, the way we act in victory is not as important is how we act in defeat, that is the measure of a true champion on and off the course, and is what made Jack Nicklaus the best professional athlete in history (in my eyes, but thats another debate).
Champion schmampion. Pro golfers are just regular folk who happen to play golf for a living. Nothing special about them, no 'code of a champion' requiring them to act in a certain way in victory or defeat. That stuff is all in your head.

More power to him. He is under no obligation to behave in any way on or off the golf course.

So you are fine with upset kids? That is more a reflection on you than on Bubba.
Yep, as a stay-at-home dad I have no problem with crying kids. What Bubba allegedly said doesn't seem too outrageous to me.
Well, I guess I would be disappointed if I didn't already expect that kind of reply. lol

Haha yeah, I'm a real harda**.

Seriously, though, did Bubba say anything at all inappropriate to the kid? He gave her an initial apology and an honest explanation of why he didn't want to sign an autograph. No reason a kid couldn't handle that (hopefully with a little parental guidance).

That is like going to DisneyWorld to see Mickey and having the actor say, "Later kid, I am on break." The kid knows who he is, probably had her heart set on getting an autograph, and pretty much got...

Wait a minute...

I just remembered I shouldn't have to explain something like this.

All I can say to this is WOW. I don't know what you mean by "inappropriate"? Did Bubba have to curse at the child for you to disagree? There was no such apology for not taking two seconds out of his day of playing golf to sign an autograph for a child. For all we know Bubba Watson could have been this girls hero, her role model, someone she looked up to and he basically acted like she meant nothing. If I made a girl cry I don't think I could do anything, he just shrugged it off, almost as if he had done it before. She will move on in time, but Wednesday was no doubt a very sad day for that little girl.

It seems like some of the players like Bubba fail to remember that the FANS are the reason they can make a living out there. If it weren't for the fans and volunteers the tournaments wouldn't be able to supply the money and no one would sponsor the events. Treating fans poorly like Bubba often does is like not appreciating everything that they are fortunate enough to have. It's a shame... They have the ability to inspire so many.

Im not defending the guy since it seems like this type of thing happens regularly with him, and he admits that he's got problems. But having said that, id bet that every player out there that day broke at least one kid's heart.

A whole lot of flawed human beings within this thread consciously choosing to take a holier than thou attitude towards another flawed human being.

Plenty of strawmen as well.

Cue the Charles Barkley "I am not a role model" commercial.

Don't like Bubba's demeanor? Don't put him on a pedestal and expect him to act precisely how you've predetermined he should act.

Having been there, there were many players that stopped for literally everyone, especially kids. Bill Haas, Watney, Rose, Rory, DJ, Keegan, Day, Mahan, and Dufner didn't disappoint anyone. Rory doesn't like to sign golf balls, but a 3 or 4 year old girl asked Rory and she got it signed. That was cool to see.

I don't think expressing compassion for a kid who just got the cold shoulder from Bubba Watson is a character flaw. Supporting callous responses from jerks might be though, fyi...

Oh, the delicious irony. lol

So I'm a jerk now? Why?

FYI, I wouldn't take my kid to DisneyWorld if you paid me, but if somehow we ended up there and Mickey was going on break, I'd explain to my kid that his work time was over and then we'd move on with our day. My little guy might cry a little, but it's nothing he wouldn't get over in about 5 minutes when we see another Mickey.

Funny thing is- judging from your posts over the years I'd bet we agree on a lot of things. Just not this issue, I guess.

Is Bubba any different than the MLB player that comes out of the dugout during BP, looks at the kids with baseball cards, baseballs, and Sharpies in their hands and passes them by?

Not really.

Is it bad that a little girl cried? Sure is.

Is it bad that predetermined expectations have been set for a professional athlete to never let anyone down under any circumstances? Sure is.

If we focus on expectations we can better understand why tears were shed.

I think the problem is that Bubba thinks he should be and is a role model. He doesn't even believe what you attributed. http://www.metrowest...11578/LIFESTYLE

Further, golfers endorse products that aren't even always directly related to golf. They aren't just paid to play golf. It goes beyond that.

Can you quote a single article where he said he wants to be a role model for any children other than his son?

REALLY?? They are where they are through hard work and dedication, no doubt about it. BUT, they have what they have and live they way they live because of the love of their fans. They get the endorsements through popularity which derives from their fan base, so they owe ALOT to their fans, period...
