When I was a teenager, my dad and his best friend took up golf. They could not afford new clubs and played sharing a women's practice set at a dilapidated muny course. Yet they'd play every day they could, all day. I felt that there must be something special about the game for my dad to be so passionate about it. I tagged along one day, and I haven't looked back. My dad can no longer play due to his health, but we love to share golf stories with each other. I thank him all the time for taking me with him on that day that has, and will continue to enrich my life.

My Dad handed down his clubs to me when I was 17. He taught me how to play and also how to keep my cool when things weren't going my way. I've applied those lessons to my everyday life. I love playing with my Dad. And even though this "young buck" can outdrive him 9 times out of 10, he still manages to beat me every time. The times i'm on the course with my dad are some of the best times in my life.

My dad was an artist, not a golfer, but he did frequent flea markets and antique stores. My first swings ever were with an antique wood shafted set of golf clubs. I thoroughly abused those clubs one day while he was at the university. At the time, miss-hitting, cracking sounds, flying heads, and unraveling leather seemed like a fun time.... Not so much when he came home. Just one of life's lessons I learned the hard way.

My father started golf the year I was born. January 1999. I was born a month after that. The place that we live have not much things to do at that time(unlike now). so he bought me a junior set for $199 when it was my 2nd birthday and I fell in love with golf ever since.

When I was younger and my dad and I couldn't find common ground, we always seemed to be able to enjoy each other's company golfing.

The game seemed to lighten the load and strengthen the bond between us. I stayed with golf as both a sport and a means to support myself.

I was asked not to long ago what was the best day and the worst day in my golf career. I said the best day was the day I finally beat my dad. When asked for the worst day I said, " The same day."

We still go out for 9 holes every so often. He's 88 and not always with me mentally, but I still enjoy seeing the smile on his face when the ball flies true.

My dad introduced me to golf by force. I was a bookworm as a kid, and my dad dragged me out onto the course to play so he would have some company. He even got me a set of cut-down clubs for me to use until he gave me a set of Ping kids’ clubs for my birthday. Thanks to him, I’m now addicted to this cruel, beautiful game, and I can’t thank him enough.

I actually got my dad into golf about 5 years ago. I had been playing a few years and my dad had recently retired, so I invited him to hit some balls at the range to see how he liked it. It took awhile, but he eventually caught the bug. His easy going attitude and calm demeanor has rubbed off on me and my game and I've never had more fun playing golf. Thanks dad.

My grandfather introduced me to the game. In the beginning it would be while he sat in his recliner watching it on TV. Eventually when I was in my teens he would take me to the course. It was the only time I got to spend with him alone before he passed.

My father had been playing only a short while and needed help. He got some lessons and allowed me to take a series of lessons to see if I would like playing. I had to pass a test on etiquette and the rules of golf before playing. I was 12 and I was given an old sand wedge to practice with. Shot 103 the first time out and was in the eighties in three months, thanks to Curdy Byrd and my dad.

When my mom remarried, my stepdad and I didn't have much in common, but he was a lifelong golfer and I was interested in the game. While he didn't do much in the way of coaching, he supported me as I developed into a standout junior and caddied for me in my final run at the US Junior Am.

My father introduced me to the game of golf in my early teens. I had no interest in the game then. I played soccer and ice hockey. But my dad kept on brining me to the range and taught me the basics. I finally took a serious interest in the game up when I was in my early 30s. Much to my dad's delight. He lives in Florida now. He's retired and plays almost everyday. We play whenever we get together. He also helped me pass the love of golf down to his grandsons.

My dad hits a 1 iron off the tee. What is there more to love in golf than a 1 iron off the tee?

I only know two people that can hit a 1 iron, Jesus and Mr. Sullivan. Without my dad I never would have never picked up a golf club. I have him to thank for my career, a great life, and being the best dad I know.

I was 9 yrs. old when my dad first took me to a driving range. Thought was pretty cool when the balls would automatically get teed up for you, even in the mid. '70s. My dad got me a sawed off 9 iron and I would take a few of his balls and hit away. I was hooked the first day and always looked forward to going to hit a bucket with dad! Because being self employed, Dad didn't get out to golf as much as he would have liked. I finally got to golf with him once with him and a buddy of his when I was in my early 20's. Was the only time I got to golf with the old man. Wish I had a chance more often! Just glad he introduced me to this great game! :golfer:

Two years ago my Dad passed down his Dad's set of irons after my grandpas passing. We played a round together in memory of pops and I haven't looked back since. Dropped 20 lbs and feel better than ever. RIP pops!

Different take....I am a dad and I am getting my 7-year old son and 11-year old daughter involved in golf. They just watched my love for the game at first, but now have asked to join in. They requested to participate in a week long golf camp and now join me whenever I go to the range. It is the best time spent with my kids and I am greatful for the experiences we enjoy together.

My Dad introduced me to the game when I was about 12. He taught me about the game and so much more when we got the chance to go play. He provided me the opportunity to succeed on and off the golf course. There is nothing better than playing a round of golf with my Dad and I can't wait for the opportunity to play with my own child someday.

My dad was the first person to introduce me to the game at 6. He had an old set of Wilson blades cut down for me and started practicing with me in the back yard. He started taking me out on the course soon after to play from 100 yards to the hole. That started me down the path to working on golf courses in high school and college and playing every chance I get. We still get out and play together about 6 times a year. I owe it all to dad.
