Giveaway: 2nd Swing + Bettinardi Prototype BB8

Recommended Posts

After my competitive basketball career ended and I was looking for a competitive outlet, my father purchased a couple of lessons for me with a local pro and I was immediately hooked on the game. Dad never played the game, but always supported me in any endeavor, working overtime to buy my first nice set as a birthday present. Hope I can live up to his fine example.

My old man is the one who introduced me to the game of golf. We have pictures of me as a baby swinging the sticks. He was in a bad motorcycle last fall. But we were able to play last weekend. The bastxxx has new saying when he beats me on a hole, "You can't even beat a 65 year old with sever brain damage!" Love the old jerk!

My dad didn't like golf, but when I wanted to start, he bought a cheap set for himself and took me. He pushed me to get a job as a range picker in 8th grade, and from then on, I have loved to play. He hasn't played with me in years because of health issues, but he always supports me in my passion. Love my dad for everything!

As simple as it sounds, my dad let me play the game. He always made golf accessible. From a small country club to my public hometown course. My greens fee was always paid. I hope I can provide for my kids the same way so that they can play anytime. I still look forward to going home and playing with my parents as it wad the weekend norm as I grew up.

My dad and I took up golfing 10 years ago. 4 months later I made a HIO. Dad was proud and happy for me and said "I have a feeling I´ll make one soon". 6 months later he did and it was my turn be proud and happy :) Shared joy is double joy.

My dad stuck a club in my hand when I was a 18 months old. I have a picture that is right above my putter collection of my dad at the range with me rolling putts right behind him. He is a lefty, I am a righty. Similar to how Phil started playing as a lefty. My parents split up when I was almost 4 years old and I did not get to play golf with my dad for several years, but I always had that picture to remind me where it all started.

Thanks for the contest guys, some great stories here!

My dad introduced me to this game when I was 11 and took me out on the course a year after where I beat him. As a 12 year old I thought the game was for old people and waking up early to play was crazy. So when he asked me to play with him at 6 am my first response was a big fat NO. Then he said something that erased everything about waking up really early and old men playing. I can still hear it, "you can drive the cart". My ears perked up and my immediate answer was YES. If I win this putter I would give it to my DAD.

My father was far and away the biggest driving force behind my love for the game of golf. When I was a little kid he first introduced me to the game and allowed me the opportunity to hit balls at the range and develop a strong desire to play the game. I'll never forget our trips to the range where he would make a conscious effort to help me with my swing, posture, etiquette, etc. He was such a giving person and always made it a point to provide any and all feedback to me. Whether positive or negative, it really helped me to develop a sound golf swing. He used to always tell me I had a naturally good swing, though I could still benefit from lessons. I neglected to take any lessons until about 4 years ago. They have helped immensely and I attribute it primarily to him as I would not have gone to the lessons had it not been for his persistence. I will NEVER forget going to the range or the course with my father. These were some of the best times I have ever experienced playing the game of golf.

My father passed away last year and in going through his desk at home we found the following notecard.

[attachment=2256805:Screen Shot 2014-06-03 at 8.41.36 AM.png]

It is something that I will treasure for as long as I live and something that I will one day pass along to my son (I hope to have one!). My father provided more than I could ever ask for, and introducing me to the game of golf is something that I will cherish forever.

I mean, I like golf balls
but not that much.

Unfortunately my father, whom I love dearly, accidentally discouraged me from playing the game. Without getting too personal when I was younger my father wasn't ready to be one and I was forced to sit and watch from a young age and had little interaction with him during my weekends with him because of it. I grew to resent the game because of that, but thankfully I've since seen the light!

When my grandfather died, my dad told me one of granddad's dreams was for all the boys to play golf together. We never got to do that while my granddad was alive, but while stuck in Reno/Tahoe, four of the boys played several rounds with rented clubs. My dad asked if I would play golf back home if he took up the game. We took lessons together, and now share a passion for golf.

My dad used to take me out to Harding Park when I was just a little guy, not to play, just to watch him and his buddies play. I always remember walking up 18 and seeing many mud hens all over the fairway, some with 1 or no legs. Their little legs didn't take to well to getting hit by errant golf shots. I would always cry, after a couple of rounds I was done watching golf and the crippled birds. Years later i took up golf and played often with him, every so often I would remind him of the sad little birds, LOL. Today is his Bday, Happy Bday DAD Love you.

Growing up, I would see my dad's name on the club championship board. He never won but he finished second a handful of times. Seeing his name up there started it all for me. It wasn't anything that he did directly that made me fall in love with the game. It was HIS love of the game that did...
