My Raw Iron Experience

Just thought I would share some in progress pics of my conversion to RAW Mizuno MP63's.

 

I found a local chrome shop in SC that stripped and bead blasted a set of MP63's plus 4 Vokeys all for $50.

 

Best part of the whole process is that he had an individual walk into his shop with a set of MP67's and MP29's 4 years ago to be re-chromed and the guy dipped after the stripping was done. Long story short, I now have two extra sets of RAW Mizuno Iron heads for get this... $25. They have not been bead blasted and sat for 48 months so they need some TLC, however they should make a great side project.

 

Time to get to work with the Scotch Brite Pads...

Columbia, however I used CNC Plating out of Greenwood, SC. Jack is his name, and he definitely does a great job. 1wk turnaround.

8-10g per head, I suspect less if he had used a lower pressure on the bead blast.
Nothing a tip weight can't fix.

Hardly any weight loss is due to blasting. All of the weight lost is attributed to the loss of chrome, nickel and possibly copper

Those look absolutely incredible. I have a set of J40 heads that I would love to do this to. Have you hit them before and after to see any difference? I am interested to see how they feel now raw. I have always preferred raw wedges.

Would you be able to post some more pictures of them or maybe pm a few of the faces? I was thinking of doing the alum oxide after reading an article and a few posts from tom wishon. I picked up a few unfinished wedges that I am looking to get grooves milled and then I want to alum oxide the faces as well.

Now... can I deal with the loss of weight... I already have 4g of lead tape on the backs... That could be a HUGE tip weight...

[/quote]Bandit Golf in Murrells Inlet was doing some of that dipping because they were powder coating metal woods and irons. But I see that shop had closed up when I went by Sunday. I will look around next week when I get time I am tied up on in laws family business this week
