Is your state Golf association doing a good job?

How do you feel your state golf associations are doing? Is there anything they could do better ? Are they growing the game?

 

My state golf association does a pretty good job for the most part, they try to grow the game and get more kids involved. They have first tee locations all over the state, and have several junior tours that run tournaments all over. For the club pro's they have their own tour, and have around 20 events they can play. We also have tournaments for the regular Am player, and a very large senior golf association. The one area I think my state golf association isn't doing a good job serving is the Mid am guys who are late 30's-40's. Sure we can play some of the regular Am events, but you will play mostly college golfers, or guys who played College golf, so you just donate your entry fee and hope you qualify for a tournament and have no shot of winning. Guys who are a 3 or 4 handicap and didn't play in college, want to play but have no shot at all.

 

Let me know what you all think about your state and how they operate things.

Interesting topic.

Ours in AZ seems to be like yours....it is really only for the scratch golfers and for Seniors.

I do not think they do much to grow the game. Kind of odd?

NYSGA is run quite well in my opinion. The guys are are and the volunteers are helpful.... Some are older and their voices can carry but besides that they're knowledgable and helpful.
I cant say enough good things about Andrew, Billy and their crew.

The GAM does a fine job, IMO. They have both gross and net tournaments, and have a great pace of play policy. They also police the net tournaments well by using the lowest index of 12 months for each player.

Florida State Golf Association does a phenomenal job!

Obviously the weather helps, but they have tons of mens, womens, juniors and seniors events throughout the year. At least one per week in each region of the state when you add in all the one-day events.

I'd have to say the same about the Kansas Golf Association, other than the weather of course.

Our state golf association (OGA) isn't exactly as put together as some of the others I've been a member of, but our regional association (PNGA) is very good. I won't elaborate beyond the fact that I would much prefer to play a PNGA event than an OGA event.

The Carolinas Golf Association does a great job. Huge schedule of events and they do a great job running them.

The AZ Golf Association is awesome, unbelievably well run just a tad expensive.

Honestly though if you're not a 2 handicap or less, you have no business playing in any of their majors.

California has two, SCGA and NCGA and both of them do an excellent job.

I will 2nd the Carolina Golf Association. Individual tournaments, best-ball tournaments, sr events, major events for the scratch golfers. All are very well ran. I was so disappointed when I moved down to GA. This association sucks. I enjoyed the competition in The Carolina's. Others could learn a lot from them......

I've been partaking in VSGA one-day tourneys for the last 2 years, and I think they've been outstanding. Some great venues, generally well run...the only thing I think is slightly misgudied is the tee's are determined by age rather than handicap (outside of seniors) but at the end of the day I guess they need to make it as least confusing as possible.

No doubt about it, the CGA has their stuff dress right dress. Andy Priest, Rusty Harder and the rest of the gang do an incredible job. I played in the NC Am and the NC Mid Am this season and I couldn't believe how professionally these tournaments were run. It has to be one of, if not the best state golf associations in the nation.
