OP: that'll happen with some of the canvases out there. A buddy of mine worked at an indoor golf sim place and they would have golf balls bust like that all the time. But it was also a Nike and their QC on balls is a joke especially with lower end products like the PD line. The boxes I got shipments of their products in said Made in Vietnam and even the cardboard they used felt cheap.

Option 1

Well, I won't be purchasing Nike golf balls anymore. The box seemed okay though. :-)

Wait, it happened again w/ a different kind of ball?
Yes. The first was a new Nike PD Long, and this was a new Callaway Supersoft. And again, neither ball had been outdoors.

ps: the picture in post #37 is of the Callaway Supersoft.

Never seen that before, but it has to be something to do with the simulator backstop. That or else the employees there are doing something strange with the balls.

Dear Sean2,

Thank you for your email and pictures regarding your unfortunate experience recently with a cracked Nike ball. I can only say that well, honestly, with that horrible deal we made with Durant and then with all the issues our star PGA player has been having, the Nike executives have been under a ton of pressure recently and when you are under that much pressure, what can I tell you... some balls are gonna crack. Anyway thanks for your letter and understanding.

Kindest regards,
D.A.

Well something funky is obviously going on. You've cracked two DIFFERENT kind of balls at the same place.

And I can't really think of a logical explanation....... but there has to be one.

I don't know. Next time I go I'm going to hit a Pro V1x and see what happens.

I sent an email to Callaway along with a photo of the golf ball.

As I said, I asked the manager about it, and he said it's never happened before to the best of his knowledge. I also used two different bays.

But you're right about the explanation. I couldn't find a seam where the cracks could have occurred.

There was a thread on here recently in which another member stated hitting golf balls in a simulator, into a screen causes this. Many of the thread participants didn't want to believe him and gave him a fair amount of grief over his statement.

He held to his claims and assured us that hitting into the screens in simulators causes the balls to crack.

If I can remember which thread it was (I'm getting old) I'll post a link.

Edit: Here it is in the Chrome Soft thread. Starting with post 295 - http://www.golfwrx.c...t/page__st__270

I have seen cracked balls like that at the Golfsmith in Avon, mus have something weird going on behind the screen
The screen seems to "absorb" the shot...no weird sounds, like it's hitting something hard. Anyway, two "sessions" and two cracked golf balls. Maybe I'll have to go somewhere else.

Thanks for the link. Before we started inundated with snow I was still playing golf in temperatures as low as the upper 20's. You would think if a ball would crack that would be it...not only the temperatures, but making contact with frozen ground. Never happened though. A ball hitting a screen shouldn't be doing that...you would think.

Went to golfsmith yest and found quite a few balls like this in their bay. Two were inside the drawers of the simulator cabinet where they keep the tape and tees. The others I picked out of the pile sitting beside the mat. Granted these were e7 and pinnacles that are in the range all the time and not brand new balls as the OP demolished.

Here is my theory,

The OP is clearly juicing first and foremost, and is prob using a tour issue club, which all WRXers know increases club speed exponentially in addition to producing drives of immeasurable distance  :cheesy:

If I recall correctly most of the hitting bays are settup as a semi circle of mats hitting to a corner of the building. Imagine a baseball diamond where the golfers are hitting from the outfield wall (semi circle of matts) back to home plate with the foul lines being the netting walls. I think the balls are coming in contact with some sort of metal hardwear holding the netting at the seams. IE the top seam connecting the roof net to the walls or the corner joint adjoining the roof and two walls. I know some of the baseball tunnels I used to take BP in were mesh held by steel cable at the joints. They could be hitting the eye bolts where the netting is anchoring into the walls??

Just a thought, most likely incorrect.
