Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Oakbrook tomorrow afternoon for a neighborhood get together. 16 of us.

Always play well there when I lay up on 9 and 13. Always go for broke on the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 16th. More of a drive and flop-shot course on those holes. Then again, I'll probably be half-whacked on Svedka by the 1st anyway.

Very aggressive.

No point in going for 3 in 2 IMO, you've got the same approach with a 6 iron layup off the tee as a driver that splits the fairway, still 275+ out. I've driven or seen 4, 6 and 10 driven before, of all holes I've never seen somebody drive 8 or even be in a good spot there, too many bunkers. I hated 9 during high school but it feels like an easy carry now, 13 actually is more dangerous going over and though the fairway than hitting the water.

Early morning round at Lost Marsh before heading to Gull Lake on Sunday. LM should be a good warm up for GL East, as it's more or less a target golf course.

Safe travels up there, I'll probably just hang out on the range this weekend and then we're playing Blackthorn Monday and heading up to Gull Lake after that ourselves for 3 days.

Exactly.

Should be a great day though. Irish Times in Brookfield for super-sesh afterwords.

Arrowhead was great today. Great conditions and fast (but true) greens. Thanks again for advice. Even with CPO after the rain last night, got around in 4:15 on a pretty busy Friday.

How was the beer in the clubhouse?

We are looking to take a trip out to the Bourne in Marseilles. Has anyone played it recently? If so, opinions would be appreciated. I know it supposed to be somewhat of a quirky course which is ok by us.

I haven't played it at all this year, but try to get out there once a year as my parents live about 20 minutes away, and a good friend from high school still lives in the area. To me, the course is very quirky. Greens are usually not very often in good shape, fairways are usually rock hard, unless they have received a lot of rain, and the rough is pretty thick. There are a lot of very elevated tees, anywhere from 20 - 75 feet above the fairway, and you may hit a great tee shot off of one of these tees, only to end up losing your ball, or ending up near a tree. Most of the course is in a wooded area, but there are 2 or 3 holes that they tried to make into a links style area. All in all, at least to me, it is nothing special. It is a course that you play once just to say you did it. Another course in the are that I enjoy much better is Seneca's Oak Ridge. Much better layout, and the course is very well maintained.

Thanks for the response. Now I have to consider Oak Ridge as well. Never played either of these courses.

Last second round at Cog # 3 yesterday, was a fun little round that included in a eagle followed up by a double/par/double finish. Drove the ball well, irons were a bit off but the wind was really a struggle out there since it was swirling around. the course itself was about what you would expect from #3, pretty decent condition with slow slow greens. I forgot how fun that course really is, there's some pretty solid holes on the course. Going to try to sneak in 18 tomorrow afternoon, another round Monday morning then off to Blackthorn in South Bend for an afternoon round followed by 3 days in Gull Lake.

'Very pleasant round at Lost Marsh this morning. Well, other than the awful 5 hour pace of play. I must be becoming more patient, because I surprisingly held it together during the march. The course was in great shape. The greens were very slow, but they rolled nicely. The NNE winds really only affected play on #3, which of course is hard enough without the winds. I played it as a par 5 after a decent drive up the right side left me 230 to the pin. I grudgingly accepted a 5 on the hole, and moved on.

'Had a great day ball striking with 11 fairways and 15 greens. In preparation for Gull Lake and Stonehedge, I simply tried to keep the ball in play. Lol. Gotta employ that more often. The highlight of the day was my first birdie on the long par 4 18th which was playing 435 yards. A big, sweeping draw left me 170 to the center pin, and I hit a beautiful 6h to 5 feet.

Played orchard valley this morning. Course was in fine shape but I was rusty. 3 birdies offset by 2 doubles and 2 triples. Couldn't get up and down, drive the first, 3 putted for par kind of day.

On the way home, with the wife and kids out of town, on a whim decided to head over to Big Run. I'd never been, but man what a course. I can understand the love/hate feelings many have with that course. But I love the property and the tree lined layout. Played the tips for the heck of it, was off on the front, had 3 birdies on the back, including the long par 3 12th. Not sure I'd play that course all the time as I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment, but I'm glad I finally got out there

Oh my Oak Brook. Mickey Mouse pin locations = 5hr rounds. Not one flat hole location. Oh wait. There was actually about 7 but they were all on the practice green.

Played bobolink Friday - for first and potentially only round of the year. Hey, you try having 8 kids, 3 in diapers!

Course redesign is awesome - they just reopened from the renovation. Having played lots of "new" greens, it's clear they did it right. Greens were firm, perfect, and held just fine - in fact, spun a few back off the green. THIS is a damn near perfect strategic course. Not awe-inspiring, just subtle and endlessly charming. I could play every day and not get bored. Generous fairways, they took out over 1000 trees, but always you enjoy an advantage hitting a specific part of a fairway. Wish all courses were like this.

The club is even better - total dude joint. Laid back even in its exclusivity, good drafts, strong pours, simple delicious food. If I were single, it would be my second home.

Back to real life after - pretty much been running kids around since.

Played OV on Saturday as well. Great review by V. Great review by V. Great review by V. Great review by V.

One thing they need to do though is get the geese off the course. There were several fairways with heavy do do and they geese messed up the turf as well.

The greens were the best they've been in a long time.

My break from golf lasted about 20 hours. Played Deerfield with the wife this afternoon, $45 on golf now. Course was in very good shape, greens rolled well and at a decent pace. Got around in just over 4 hours. Followed up my 96 from yesterday with an 81 from the combo tees today. 12 GIR. Played the last 6 holes at -1. Had 3 3 putts on the front, but managed to keep my composure and not let it seep into the rest of my shots.

Lake Bluff for the first in years, like 15 years. I forgot how nice it is. Good, challenging layout, in good shape and fairly priced.

always a big fan, but the switch to Billy Casper this year left a sour taste in my mouth when they got rid of the free range balls (no big deal) and didn't bother to inform anyone making tee times that the greens had been punched and sanded (very big deal). As punishment, I put them on a one year suspension. Probably cost them 20 rounds of golf since I brought an outing out there last year and was planning to do so again this summer, on top of the handful of rounds I normally play there each summer.
