Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Had an impromptu round last Friday afternoon at Legacy Hills in LaPorte. Played with a college friend, his nephew and the nephew's roommate who is the starting QB for the Golden Domers. Nice kid...who liked to talk a lot of smack. The smack talk started on the second hole when he blew a drive past my college friend and turned it on. Waited until he was done and then put it 20 yards past him.

On the last hole, he said "Man I don't remember the last time I got beat that bad." I responded with..."So you forgot the Fiesta Bowl game against Ohio State?"

Pretty bold to be bragging about 230...

Sat round with Scratch at Village Links. Course is in good shape, greens are a little slow. We went off at 8am and we crawled for the first 6 holes- the round sped up and we finished just under 4 1/2 hours. Good round all around

I haven't played there in 7-8 years but it was a nice change of pace. I'm not sure why I disliked that course all these years maybe because I could never break 80 there, haha, but had a lot of fun.

I'm no early riser but it was well worth getting up early and still have time to hang out and take my daughter fishing.

Well Ruffled Feathers was a mess today. I shot the worst round in probably 5 years with a solid 87, and that comes less than two weeks from my best round of the year. The course itself was awful, they should really be embarrassed with what they have let the course become. Tee boxes and fairways were a mess and the greens were awful, bumpy shaggy and some were dead and missing grass. They were running so slow that downhill putts still had a hard time getting to the hole. I hate to say it but I think Fresh Medows might be a step up from the Feathers, it's really sad to see it like I did today. Probably my last visit there until I hear things improve.

For those that played Cantigny, which is the better of the 2 courses there? Trying to book a work outing there.

Woodside is the hardest of the 3. With the exception of 1, 3, and 8 just about every hole is hard to score on. The par 5s are difficult too in comparison to the other courses.

Hillside is easiest and most bland. Both par 5s are birdie holes.

Lakeside is best all around. 1 challenging par 5, one easy one. A couple scoreable par 4s, and one of the harder holes in the area to finish with.

Played for the first time at White Pines. Got out to both the East/West course. Had to be a combo of some of the most narrow fairways and smallest greens I've ever played on. Too bad the greens were terribly slow. I was pounding my putter and coming up short.

Yeah, that's WP. The trees are very punishing. 'Probably one of the tightest courses in the area.

I snagged a "Hot Deal" for $49 at Bowes Creek for Friday morning. It's been close to 6 years since I last visited BC.

Saturday I'll be at Bonnie Dundee and Pinecrest. On Sunday it's up to Fox Lake CC and Antioch. Tomorrow I'll be at Indian Lakes for the annual company outing.

The weather looks pretty decent this weekend.

I need to get back to BC and give it another whirl. I enjoyed my round there last year but didn't totally get what all the hype was over it but maybe a second round out there will fill things in a bit more for me.

I'm playing Bowes (6:15am) Friday also. It will be my first time there. I've heard mixed reviews so should be interesting.

Doing a bit of searching for a possible Saturday morning time and came across Bolingbrook which is charging...$109 for "prime time" slots until 1PM. Big fan of their practice facility and it's an above average course but that's way out of market. After about 11, the tee sheet is very open.

That's a little...much. I agree that its an above average course, but not worth that price tag.

I felt like most of the front 9 was nothing great, felt like you could play similar holes elsewhere in the area but the back 9 was where the course shined. I thought the housing around the course was a bit out of place at times but that's just me nit picking. It gets put up against Highlands I guess because they are in the same area but I guess overall if I'm making the drive out there I'd much rather play Highlands. With that said, it was still a really fun course to play and obviously good enough to make me want to give it a second go.

Front 9 is pretty meh. Back 9 is fantastic. Facilities and people on staff are fantastic. If you got all day the member for a day package is well worth it.

Bowes Creek is one of my favorite courses in Chicago. As mentioned above the facilities are awesome and good to get some range or short game work in. I don't believe Hot deals wouldn't be included in the member for a day.

That deal's been around for a while, and on Groupon too. Get rid of the lunch and make it for one person and I might be interested. Tired of buying golf 2 for 1s and having moochers get free golf...

Well, the doc says everything is okay, no surgery needed. He mentioned a bone bruise and a small area of the meniscus near the root, but as long as I can take pain, there are no restrictions. Says it could take, 3, 4 5 weeks to get back to normal. The idiot in me wants to go golfing tomorrow, but the good angel over my other shoulder says wait a week or two. There is still some pain, and I am sure that I couldn't swing full out anyways.

Aleve? Check. Knee brace? Check. Tee Time? Check. All systems go, Captain.

Seriously, if it's not swollen, you're probably good to go. Until it gets scoped, there will always be some pain as it flaps around in your knee and gets pinched.

Played Sportsman last night in the golf league. Course has been in great shape lately, especially the greens. Finally got my driver working again after a month of struggling with it. Simple fix in the end, feel dumb for taking that long to figure it out. Of course, as soon as I fix the driver i start struggling with the irons. Didn't hit a single GIR last night, but scrambled for 5 straight up and downs for par to start out even. Started leaking after that, bogey bogey bogey and then of course a quad on #9 to turn a great round into a 42.

Heading up to Green Lake today. Got email from Lawsonia, they have their annual 4th of July weekend deal where the rates drop from $90 to $55. How awesome is that? They actually lower prices for the holiday. Looking forward to 3 rounds on the Links course.

Only way I'd pay $109 for that track is if it included a case of beer. It is an above average course I agree but even a prime time slot should be around $80. Hearing that price makes me very glad I bit the bullet and joined a private course.

Just played Mistwood - Course is in good condition. Greens were rolling well and somewhat fast. My driving and putting were both mediocre. Scrambled well for a 90 (from the blacks) which included a 9 on the 15th hole ( 2 balls buried with the fish).

Played Cinder Ridge yesterday. Again course is in good condition. Greens were rolling true but slower than Mistwood. Hit my driver great in the back nine,. My irons were ok as well as my putting. Shot a 88 from the blues.

Overall pleased with my scores keeping in mind my hcp is at 14.

Highly recommend both courses. Cinder Ridge has got to be the best bang for the buck - $40 to ride during the week.

15 hcp

Played Orchard Valley this afternoon, I'm not sure I have ever played well there and today was no exception. My miss with just about anything has been a push fade (the occasional hook, 3 wood notwithstanding lol) for a while now and I have worked really hard to neutralize my path, worked with my irons, but my driver miss is a slice recently which I couldn't figure out until I used some impact tape last time I was at the range, lo and behold I'm hitting the heel big time. And what do you know that's all I could do with driver today. You can't really miss right at Orchard Valley and it killed me today, 86 from the blacks that should have been much better. Taking a look at my recent scores and they are all over the place, good is really good, but I am good for what looks like 6+ garbage shots a round when the driver is acting up :russian_roulette: Course was in great shape, greens were looking really good.

Nice day to be out of work, and on the course. Played in the company outing at Indian Lakes. The course was playable, but a little beat up. The tee boxes definitely need a bit of TLC. The greens were on the slow side, and I must have fixed 3 or 4 ball marks per green. Many of the bunkers were washed out, but I did see a maintenance crew dumping fresh sand in a number of them, so they will likely improve.

Ugh. Company outings are not a recipe for good golf. I joined three buddies, and I believe they had a combined 1.5 rounds played this year. I don't think one of them broke 120. We had a good time, but I simply couldn't get into any kind of rhythm. I think I was mentally checked out by the 6th hole. I didn't keep the scorecard, but I believe I managed an 82 with one double. The only highlights were paring the 585 yard par 5 2nd on the Island nine, and shooting 1 over on the par 3's. Oh well.

I think tomorrow's round(s) at Bowes Creek will help put today's round quickly behind me.

Glad to hear Orchard Valley is looking good, I had heard mixed reviews earlier in the year.
