Tell me your mistakes made as a club hoe

1) Prenup

2) Once your single again, DO NOT have your room of clubs in the background when you take your pic for match.com. You are not ready for the attention you will get from the ladies

3) When dating and you ask her if she wants to try your driver and she responds "whats the difference?" you just tell her right away this is not going to work

4) When you buy a new house with your 5th wife make sure the driveway is big enough for the titleist fitting truck

There is more but I just found a deal on some J15's so I got to go

My club acquisition the last few years has taken the modern twist. I have gotten several sets of modern irons that are supposed to help my game improve. In the end, I fought with this particular irons for any number of reasons from sole width to offset to head's being too light (I'm looking at you Ping) to not really being able to tell where I struck the ball to sometimes you catch one that takes off longer than usual. Always end up back with my old reliable MP 33s and shoot better scores with the Mizunos. Only other irons I play that work as well are the Titleist 681 irons. Distance isn't modern because the lofts are the same but loft for loft they are as long. Turf interaction is better in my particular case. So, I have several iron sets in my garage "time out" bag. That's where they go when they misbehave. If my MP-33s or 681s misbehave, they end up in a closet away from all their buddies as punishment. It works too. They come out of punishment ready to rock.

This all being said, I like shiny new things and there are some tempting irons on the market that dazzle my eyes. Indeed I'm a ho.

Buy exactly what you want from the start. Then you don’t mess around and eventually because then it’s too late in the season.

Then they release the next model

Also, the more I pay for clubs, the less I hoe them.

Don’t sell what’s working before you buy new sticks.

I like Forged irons, so I shouldn’t bother looking at/trying cast clubs.

Not that many golf clubs retain their value, kinda like Harleys.

Once you’ve found a great fairway wood or hybrid, stop looking for better ones. You’ll just be frustrated.

Keep track of what you have bought/sold so spending doesn't get out of hand.

Learn to do basic club work yourself...grips/shafts/swingweights (online calculator tools available) etc to keep costs down.

If you want to keep a graphite shaft don't try to pull it by hand, you may get lucky the odd time and pull one undamaged but you'll destroy a load of others on the way, get a shaft extractor or pay someone with one to do it for you.

Yes keep hold of old reliable kit....BUT...really only keep it if you love it....stops the inventory getting far too big!!

My biggest mistake has been keeping hold of 'ok' clubs to 'finish' off bags when the reality is I'm never going to use them as I prefer others I have....if you don't love it, sell it.

The biggest mistakes you will make as a club hoe or at least in my experience as a club hoe are:

- Selling a 3 wood you like. I had an RBZ Stage 2 Tour that I killed. Pound for pound the best 3 wood I’ve ever had. But I hated the color scheme. Instead of doing the smart thing and keeping it or sending it off somewhere like continental to get refinished, I traded it in and bought a used Ping Anser that I was crushing on the indoor trackman. This was in the winter. Come spring I couldn’t hit that damn thing for nothing and the RBZ was gone. So I just stuck with the Anser and until the end of the summer and I found an exact replica of the RBZ I had including the same shaft. I was so excited. I picked it up and took it to the course and this damn thing felt horrible. It felt nothing like my previous one and didn’t perform anywhere similar. I was so devastated. Worst decision of my life.

-Buying cheap. Buying cheap never works and only leads to more hoeing. If you must buy, buy what works. Get fit at the beginning of the year and stick with your set up for the most part. I feel this route is a lot easier when you like companies like Titleist and Ping that don’t make you feel inadequate because they have 2 year product cycles that way you aren’t buying a whole new bag every year.
