Oosthuizen is top for me, he's the only guy I've seen swing in person and been blown away by how easily he appeared to hit the ball so pure and far. Ernie els I felt similar about but he's also huge, oosthuizen makes no sense the guy is not big by any means...just effortless power
Id like to see him in person, he does get a little steep sometimes on downswing, takes until waist high until shaft is shallowed onto plane. He doesnt do that all the time though but doesnt really matter. His tempo is very smooth and effortless and generates alot of power from small frame. Rory and all the European guys think he has the best swing on tour

Wedge - easy, smooth, perfect!

5 iron - exact same swing and deep.

Driver, no way, again looks like the wedge.

Oh yeah, and super deep, always longest for age.
Just watched some videos. Very nice tempo but not my fav or even a swing I would want to copy.

Too simple?

Too efficient?

If you want fundamentally perfect go for Jeff Sluman.

Even Butch thinks little Slu has the most fundamentally sound swing.

Give me a Sluman/Purtzer swing and a Spieth/Zack short game and I quit my job!
To my very untrained eye Purtzer looks flippy at the bottom. Please don't get to distressed over my observation. I am 100% positive that his swing is more "fundamentally" sound than mine, but it is not something I watch and say. "i want to copy that". Charlie Hoffman has the move I would like to copy.

Anyone who has never seen this should watch. Don't know how technically good the swing is, but the rhythm and tempo is sublime. The athleticism, the balanced finish, the smooth transition, the effortless power, he has it all. The sound of the ball compressing shot after shot is something to behold. Just flushing every shot. Even for a range session this is impressive.

its a little flipper to your eye because he doesnt get much depth, hoffman gets more depth so it looks less flippy

Another very efficient swing is Peter Senior. Doesn't look pretty but he is like a machine, so repeatable and long for his height and age.

Don't like any of them. All short knockers, especially Faldo and Elk when you consider their physical stature.

Just watched Freddie today and I never realized how upright and how much of a flying right elbow his swing is at the top.

Jack, even in the mid 70's, was not close to Freddie in these 2 aspects of his swing, instead Jack was in a perfect position.

Yet, most golf enthusiasts will say Jack's swing was too upright with a flying elbow. Not at all the truth and I have the picture.

Jack's right forearm angle is the same as his spine angle and his hands go directly over his right shoulder, absolutely perfect!

Young Tiger was pure power. Definitely the most athletic swing I've ever seen. I've grown to appreciate LPGA swings a lot compared with PGA swings. They are more efficient swings and use equipment that is most suitable compared with PGA players who rely more on popularity and tradition (both tours are paid to play equipment).

I caddied once for Jack Nicklaus, and once for Lee Trevino. Both in the mid-70's, in their prime. A tremendous experience, and two incomparable players. But they both had quirky parts to their swings that I wouldn't want to emulate.

With Jack, it was his grip (interlocking) and his high left heel and flying right elbow on the backswing. With Lee Buck, it was his steep angles into the ball and forced left-to-right ballflight.

I never saw Hogan swing in person. I do wish I had.

But I did see Sam Snead in person and even at an advanced age, his swing was -- by far -- the most attractive, rhythmic work of golfing art I have ever seen. There is no second place. I have seen most good players in person at one time or another since the early 1970's.

I just have to say that I agree with all of the nominations of Tom Purtzer. Of anybody in my generation, he is the one guy about whom I'd say this: if I wanted to improve my own swing by osmosis, by just watching another player hit balls for a couple of hours, the guy I'd choose (and I have actually done this, with Purtzer) is to watch Tom Purtzer on the range, and then go hit balls myself channeling what I just saw. He is that good.

Exactly! I took a friend to the Champions Tour Championship when it was at Sonoma CC and we watched Purtzer for 1/2 hr on the range.

My friend was blown away in how his smooth simple motion never changed up to the driver and he later averaged 340 off the tee that day.

When you get a chance, compare Jack in the 70's or 80's to Freddie at the top and you might just say what flying right elbow in comparison.

Also, Jack's foot work along with Miller Barber's(again a real flying elbow) was gracefully awesome and necessary for power during their era.

Freddie has a very unorthodox if you will style swing, but the rhythm and effortless look make for such a smooth unique swing. What's even more amazing, is when you see him on the practice range now I days, he does more talking than swinging the club. I believe he is just a freak to be able to make such an artistic move into a golf swing and hit the ball so well.
I'm also a huge Jack Nicklaus fan, just named my first child "Jax Nicholas. Partial coincidence, but was also triggered by the game that runs through our veins:)

I last saw Freddie a few years ago at Harding Park and man was he firing through hard leaving nothing in the bag.

When I first saw him in the early 80's he was actually smoother through impact with less effort and youthful power.
