It's about the little number at the end of the round. So if it works it works. But I can't imagine it's the best solution.

I would think you must be able to find a putter that works for you. Simply haven't tried enough:-)

Or not found your way yet. I know my putting woes are mental and concentration mostly. If I put as much effort into short puts as I do in the 15ft plus puts I would be fine.

I have found a switch in putter seems to have helped my short putting and not hurt my long putting.

I do look at the hole on short puts. Even some long puts.

I tried it for a while where I used a SC NP 2 for long, lag putts and a TM DLL for putts from a distance I thought I could make. My reasoning was that my feel for distance control was better with the SC but the TM DLL was the more accurate putter from shorter (less than 15 feet) distances. I don't think it really helped me at all though, so I only carry the TM DLL now.

It didn't bother me to switch between 2 completely different putters all the time, but it just wasn't doing anything for my scoring. I've seen guys switch from regular-handed for long putts to cross-handed for shorter putts and that seems like it would mess me up more.

Putting with 2 putters will increase the variables and you'll never get to have confidence in any one of them. Get the basics right: putter head design, shaft length, grip, putting stroke, ball position, stance, etc. for a start.
Maybe consider using an alignment aid, I have found using this http://www.toursticks.com/ very useful.
For me the test of a good putter in my view is that I must be able to consistently putt to another golf ball from 8-10 feet consistently with the correct speed. If I can't hit the other golf ball consistently, I ditch it no matter how expensive or cheap it is.

Just me two cents…If you have the yips than 2 different putter will tend to keep them in check at TIMES!!!! I know this with real world experience….LOL

I played a couple times last year with a guy in some sectional and state events who used two putters. One counterbalanced and one standard weighting. The counterbalanced was a Cameron Futura X and the standard weighted putter was some kind of odyssey. Dude was a good player and a + handicap. He actually qualified with a buddy for the USGA Four Ball last year and played out at Olympic club.

So I guess it works for some people, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to even try it.

Is it along the same lines as having a heavier ball for the spare for bowlers?

I have been thinking about this for years but never pulled the trigger, but now it's on my mind again. I have a TaylorMade Spider that is great, particularly longer putts. But I struggle a bit getting it zeroed-in the short ones.

Thinking about a short, heavy, zero-arc putter for my short putts and the spider for long putts. Only thing holding me back is the nuisance of dealing with two clubs and head covers on every green. But if I could shave a stroke or two from my score, I would be willing to deal with the minor inconvenience of it.

I putt 30 minutes a day four times a week, and one hour a day once a week.

That much practice time and you still contemplating two putters?

My friend, I'll be seeking a good lesson first.

I've thought about this before. My 2ball fang is a better putter outside 10 feet than anything else. But I have a hard time with it inside about 7 feet.

90% of my putting practice is 10 feet and in. So really all you're talking about, from a practice standpoint, is maintaining a sense of distance with the "long distance" putter. The 10% of practice time should suffice.

Of course, I do it all the time. Heck, I’ve carried as many as four at one time. Gets a little crowded in the old Hoofer, especially with headcovers, but it can be done.

I've sometimes carried two putters in the bag, most often when playing charity scrambles. However, when I do this it isn't with the idea of choosing a putter based upon the particular type of putt, but rather having a backup to bring "off the bench" if I am not putting great with my gamer that day. Everyone has days when their aim or stroke just isn't quite right with their gamer, and it isn't too difficult to imagine that having a second option available could be worth more strokes than, say, the five iron that I most likely would pull out if I were to do this with my current setup.
