OK, so now the million dollar question: what would a proper fitting like that cost (cost of the actual clubs aside)? I'm in the market here in DC area.

Depends on where you go. I looked up Carl's pricing and it looks like a full bag (driver through wedges) was about $250. Club Champion is $350, and Cool Clubs has a 'Tour' fitting experience for like $625 or something like that. The Cool Clubs one sounds like the most in-depth one (although I did one at Club Champion and it was pretty detailed) and it's all done outside, on a range, on grass.

Interest point that with 105 MPH you were fitted X-Stiff. I am around 106-108 and using a Stiff. I should try a XS and see what happens...

Yeah I'm sort of in between for both woods and irons. We talked about the selection and put the same shafts in the driver in both x and s and got a little better dispersion with the x as I recall.

105.8 average on the Callaway, up to 108 a few times, and this was near the end of the second day of straight pounding balls. Guessing I'm probably around 107-109 on course but couldn't tell you for sure.

SS isn't the end-all be-all for shaft selection. How you load the club (transition speed) is important as well. I got on a mizuno shaft optimizer and they wanted me in a XS, and I'm between 97-99. I just have a very quick transition.

I'm about the same and have had the best results with X stiff in both driver and 3 wood. I prefer still in the hybrid though.

Fantastic write up!!! And fantastic contest!!! I need to add Carls to my online shopping list.

I grew up with Carls as my golf store and never knew exactly how good I had it until I moved away. The mere fact that you demo clubs outside on a range is amazing!!! I used to work right near there, and would stop hit the range a lot at lunch. I have vivid memories of hitting from the heated tees out into a snowstorm!!

Don't know if it gave me motivation to go out and practice more or not, but so far have been playing more consistently for sure. No ground-breaking discoveries, no career lows, but 4 rounds with new sticks have been 81-82-81-79, which I'm happy with.

I am around 110-112 when I hit it hard. Stiff is just fine for me - in the RIP Alpha, my fairway (BB '14) has a more lively shaft (Fubuki Zeta something), that I have in an X.

Everyone needs to get out of the S or X thinking and start understanding what frequency of shaft fits you. The letter means nothing.
