Tiger woods testing new Nike equipment

A few months ago I read the Tim Rosaforte book about TW. Interesting read as it's written well before what Tiger has now become. Anyway, in the book they talk about how he could call spin rates and and club speed before hitting shots and then hit the numbers perfectly. If he could do that, he could tell if a driver spins too much and where the CG is after a couple swings.

Right on the number with a short iron or wedge? Nonsense but it does help sell books. When the spin rate is in the 7-10,000 range there is no way to be exactly on the number.

Perfectly might be a stretch but the difference between your ability and his is the same as the difference between an infant who has never touched a club and your current handicap. That's not meant as an insult but trust me when i say he is/was that good and aware of his numbers.

I was 0-2 for 20 years and yes, that is still light years away from Tiger' skills. The post said he could tell his spin rate right on the number and I'll stick with the assertion that no one can predict it to the fourth digit. When I flush a seven iron my spin rate varies from 5200-5400. At his own rate Tiger's tolerances will be much tighter but will still have some variance that he could not predict with exact certainty and accuracy.

How the heck does Tiger know if a driver is too spinny without Trackman????! For me, I choose a driver based on looks, feel, and ball flight...

LOL...........you are kidding....right??

I would venture to say that Tiger could hit a hundred shots (any club) and state the ball speed, launch angle and spin numbers for each shot that would be within the standard deviation of what Trackman captures.

No...I'm not kidding...

Are you kidding???Seriously. ..

No! Geez....Can you tell if a ball spins a lot more off the driver without Trackman?? If you can tell the difference, then you're a better golfer than I am.

Wait......you're kidding right.......

Wow, really seems like someone put something not so nice in Ansers cereal this morning. I don't know what Tiger did to you, but he was making cuts on PGA Tour events last year with that bad back and having that back lead him to more surgery. You couldn't be more off base in your assertions, do everyone a favor (yourself included) and just stay away from Tiger threads.

You must be one of those people that think if someone doesn't have blind devotion then they are a hater

I'm the biggest Tiger fan in the world - the dude was captivating.

But the key word is WAS -

People seem to think all he has to do is heal and turn that switch back on - it doesn't work like that

Sounds to me like you poured haterade over your Wheaties this morning instead of milk.

Wasn't there a story about Scotty Cameron making him a backup putter and tiger returned it because the site dot was too big. Scotty measure it and it was a mm too big?!? I'm sure he can tell how much a ball spins

I think so there's another story of him testing 3 woods said same thing one was too big, it was like 1 cc bigger than the other.

LOL............a 40 year old body doesn't have an on/off switch any more.

Whether you're a Tiger fan or not, we get to see the next few years play out in front of us. There have been a handful of players that have played well and won into their 40's.

If anyone should be able to return to a top player and winner on Tour, Tiger should. The young, dominate Tiger is gone. Tiger going forward should be smarter and he has the experience and resume that may allow him to be competitive at the highest level. He probably has to "prove it again" to himself.

His old body, even at 100 percent, will have some limitations. Will he be able to mentally deal with that and figure out a way to score with what he has left in the tank?

A couple of swings with a new club and tossing it aside as a poor fit...........maybe his swing at this point is much sharper than many think it is.

Nike equipment is garbage. You all know it, but for some reason keep buying it. I'll never understand how a club that underperforms its peers gets any traction.

It's funny when I see these things. All the LMs I've ever been on must be rigged for Nike then, because I get the same numbers with any OEM. The Nike just happens to feel and sound better to me. Go back to the hole you came from pal.

I'm starting to wonder if there's a clause in the PXG sales agreement where you get a 2 percent discount for tossing random "reviews" into odd places they don't belong.

Nike is for Cerebral golfers..... No surprise you fail to grasp their appeal...

Cerebral golfers? Oh you have to explain that one because it's a first.

I woudnt shock me....the radical Bob Parsons will see this go up in smoke.. i hit these side by side with some Calloways and they feel exactly the same. They are just uglier than Callaway

If I caught this thread on the last few posts, I'd have no idea it had anything to do with Tiger testing clubs!

Anyway, I happen to go for the occasional brush up lesson with a top coach that looks after some top players swings in my region, he also happens to do custom fitting with the assistance of trackman. One day while waiting for my lesson to start, my coach was finishing up with one of these top players & happened to mention that for a couple days he was struggling to fit this guy, turns out 1gram increments in weights were too much & trimming a 7g weight to 6,5 were getting them closer to target. The player in question was too calling the spin & launch as he looked up after the strike, I found that quite astonishing & he ain't no Tiger!

So what if Tiger can call spin no's & swing weights & put clubs aside & want perfection, he is Tiger freakin Woods, he's earned it!

I do believe he could call all those no's & can feel 0,1 of a gram!

Maybe he has not mastered matching his mechanics & mind lately as he once did but he is still a finely tuned machine, think Doc. Hutson & lightning McQueen!

You keep thinkin it :)

0.1 of a gram - rofl

You must have a much different definition of finely tuned machine than I do - he can't make cuts let alone contend

Thanks for your idiotic contribution.

Had the same Ping Hoofer since 1996. Never thought about what brand my bag is

Clearly you have. Every other comment you've ever posted on this site is about bashing Nike, or more specifically Tiger.

This leads me to one of three scenarios.

1.) You wanted to work for Nike and didn't get a job. Or worked at Nike and lost your job.

2.) Tiger slept with your wife, daughter or something. (understandable if that's the case)

3.) You just dislike Tiger for some unknown reason outside of his game. (Many factors to consider here)

I bet if you got to take a trip to the Oven (or any equipment maker) and were fitted by them, you would open your narrow-minded scope you have.

Very extreme case. 1:1,000,000 chance it would happen. Which is why it was added, because there's no way it did.

It's like saying Nike equipment is garbage.
