Just like you would lock into a house loan %, we decided to lock into the weather.gov weather forecast. There are so many, and of course everyone is saying 'Whatever station you listen to for the weather, or whatever website you click on, that's the weather you'll get'... actually I'm the one saying that.

So I have committed and 'locked into' the weather.gov weather forecast now. I must obey and live with their weather now of course for this weekend.

The first own is just Accuweather. They are not as accurate- I hope, why, they are actually saying up to 8" of snow, gusts up to 40 mph, but also daring to say travel could be curtailed. I'll be 68 in March, I've never been curtailed in my life... check it out

https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/newark-oh/43055/weather-warnings/18383_pc

So here's the forecast I decided to make my very own, two separate 1"-3" snow amounts with gusts only up to 39 mph, 1 mph less, much more enjoyable...

Plus, act now, and no corridors, I like that, choose either one, and no mention of corridors!

It’s about time you realised these weather people, or should it be whether, work their poor little buts off every day to give you the weather, whether you like it or not. Now if you cannot choose and make it happen it’s not their fault, at least you have a choice, go to work or get out the snow shoes and go for a walk. It must be difficult trying to satisfy all the people all of the time.

On a heavier note, finished breakfast, several journies to the local waste facility this morning to dispose of stuff that cannot be put in the bin, then, try to find out why the shut of valve in the toilet does not work , might be a visit to the hardware store for a new one,

Had the final inspection by the local council compliance officer on the new sewerage system yesterday, waited all day for him to arrive, 4-50 pm was when he turned up. The inspection was really in depth, I am surprised it took him so long to check out the work. I had to undoe the temporary gate in the side paddock to give him access, walk the length of the pump out pipes, check out the back fill on the tank and sign off on his little report, he left and drove away at 4-53.

Give you confidence in our elected officials that they run such a tight ship.

I haven't spoken much about curling this winter because, well frankly, if you aren't playing, you don't have much to talk about. That said, this week are the District Championships for both mens and ladies teams. They run this in a match play format with triple elimination resulting in multiple events across each age bracket. It's a big tournament with four divisions each and then four events across each division. The finals are this weekend during the mother of all winter storms of course...

With this large format bonspiel occurring, all league play is suspended for the week as the various clubs ice surfaces are needed to get all the games in. I don't have the exact number, but it's probably in the order of 780 games plus or minus. As fate would have it our clubs ice making plant broke down on Tuesday and they lost the ice surface. Now you'd wonder how that's possible with the temperatures we've been having. Couldn't they just open the doors?

I assume that the repairs have been effected by this point and all the necessary rescheduling done, but one wonders what it's going to do for our club's reputation as this has happened two years in a row now! Probably not my biggest concern, but I can see the talk now that a new ice plant will have to be purchased and more major fund raising will be needed. It's tough to keep a club above water with only 240 members and most of them on the wrong side of 70. One wonders how much longer that quaint little quonset hut with the view of the airport will be able to carry on. Good job they managed to save a substantial amount of money last year replacing the base and piping of the rink. Once again, a new roof for the clubhouse will have to wait again...

It’s unfortunate that the most friendly clubs, the smaller ones are always strapped for cash, it’s the same in most sports but it must be a constant worry with a sport like curling where the basic equipment is so specialised and expensive, what you really need is a sponsor, but I suppose once again being a small club it would not be worth their investment.

I know the Judo club I ran for many years would never have survived without the support of the sports club we were part of, all equipment trophies for competitions and major travelling expenses were provided.

Bill, you said it all.

Comply.

Does that mean that women invented the military as a means of training men to take orders? ;)

Incorrect, women are more subtle than that. DW is as subtle as a brick to the head.

Not all encounters with bureaucrats and the various mandarins that enjoy public service employment have to be negative. I was away the other day when a city employee called in and spoke with one of my tenants. The tenant passed the employee's card along with a message to contact him regarding trees.

Turns out the city workers had cut down a few trees along my property line and he was wondering if I'd be interested in any new ones. He sent me a list to choose from and they will plant up to 10 trees! The city will plant them and I told him that he needed to put them on a watering list, so he said they would do that too! When asked what species I wanted I told him it was his choice because I was selling the property. So I'm getting 10 new shade trees planted this spring along the road allowance for free! Can't beat that. Might even help to sell the place. :good:

Well it is opposite of my old neighbor in the Upstate of SC. His brother had screwed him out of some money in a business venture. They had not spoken in over 20 years. Well he did go to the viewing and everyone commented of what a nice gesture it was. He told them do not get any ideas. "I only came to see if the SOB was really dead" True story

I always remember what my father used to say,at Viewings, Everyone throws out the required comment.

" They look so good"

"They look peaceful"

my father......hell no...they dont look good..they look dead.. lets go home.

Things you normally wouldn't hear at a funeral:

"Good to see old friends. Even better, I was voted best dressed."

"Now that Herbie has passed, I guess my visits to see his wife are finally legit."

"Hey, wait a minute. I loaned that tie to Herbie last year and I'm not leaving without it."

"Herbie always said he wanted to live and die hard."

Nothing sobers like the truth. I had an uncle that was a cronic alcoholic and abusive to his family, we were visiting one day when I was around 12/14 and he was knocking hell out of one of my young female cousins, dad and mom said if you don’t want her she can come and live with us and so it was I obtained a new sister. Lived with us till she got married and even now she is my sister and the best family member I have. When he died no one apart from his wife went to the funeral, not even his children. No false platitudes that day, they were all happy to see him go.

Questions about general etiquette:

How do you spell etiquette without spell checker?

Are those extra oversized or undersized spoons / forks around a restaurant plate used based on mouth size?

Is it appropriate to wear sandpaper socks when your friend and his shin-loving dog are visiting?

Are used jumper cables considered an appropriate wedding gift? How about a year's supply of his/hers golf tees?

How do you handle a situation where you've purchased a lighter for the new boss knowing his love for cigars, only to find it vibrates the first time you flick it in his face?

Not so famous quotes:

if you can't spot the headlights, don't eat the roadkill.

Even the splattered windshield bug knows things could get worse. Until you turn on the wipers.

Only the blindfolded should stick a a donkey's arse.

One smart cow baffles an entire herd of bulls. One dumb bull baffles an entire herd of cows. Learn something from even the dumbest bull.

(((No roadkill, bugs, donkeys, or cattle were harmed during the making of this post. Well that's not entirely true. Two donkeys were stuck in the ares by a blindfolded bug but what the hey.)))

Sitting here waiting for the Big Snow. The evening news was full of "news." The governor of PA declared a state of emergency, and the National Guard is on alert. Blah, blah blah. One item related how in the event of power loss, food should be thrown out. Well, if a lengthy power loss is suffered, the refrigerator will warm up much slower. Hey genius experts, how about just boxing the stuff up securely and just putting outside in the sub 40 weather. No one mentions common sense anymore.

Hey, I grew up in an old house with no heat on the second floor. Wood stove in the kitchen and a modern gas space heater (vented) in the living room. Rest of house unheated. Went to bed with multiple blankets, feather tick comforters, and stayed comfortable. Even when we installed a new furnace in 1970, the upstairs was still chilly.

The world is just nuts.

PS: Now, if the toilets won't work because of the storm, that's SOMETHING to worry about.

Keep warm and dry, gents.

Questions about general etiquette:

How do you spell etiquette without spell checker?

Good question, I don't think you can, besides, when spell checker didn't recognize Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, I knew from then on it was a sham. What's next, Hullabaloo? Of course, maybe, taking away all memories of Lada Edmond Junior...

Are those extra oversized or undersized spoons / forks around a restaurant plate used based on mouth size?

I think they're based on whatever the last guy used and didn't break and got washed quick enough to send out with your meal

Is it appropriate to wear sandpaper socks when your friend and his shin-loving dog are visiting?

Yes unless you have shingles. If you have a metal or slate roof it's ok

Are used jumper cables considered an appropriate wedding gift? How about a year's supply of his/hers golf tees?

Used jumper cables can be regifted with the instruction that positive go to negative and negative go to positive. Don't put this in writing of course.

Just do 6 month supply of golf tees, you never know what they might use them for in winter.

How do you handle a situation where you've purchased a lighter for the new boss knowing his love for cigars, only to find it vibrates the first time you flick it in his face?

You tell him how very sorry you were, and that it was inappropriate, nervously explaining it was a gift meant for his wife.

I'm north of the Blob. So far, not much to talk about. The wind is more from the north than the NE so that's probably helping and not as strong as predicted either at this point. They said that it would be light fluffy snow, but this stuff is very fine and crystalline; the kind that really packs in there, so there's less potential for it to keep moving around. All pluses as I see it.

The big negative of course is that DW is working afternoons this weekend. At this rate she'll get there no problem, but getting home might be another matter altogether. Wouldn't be the first time she took an overnight bag with her and stayed in a hotel... :(

-------------------------------

Been killing time this morning looking at golf clubs -- imagine that. Been thinking that the best course of action may well be to keep the graphite shafted Pings and rejig the top end of the bag with senior flex shafts for the woods to give me something light and easy to swing. Even something as pedestrian as the new Cobra F-Max woods would set me back about a grand (including taxes) for a driver, fairway and hybrid!

I guess I'll just be getting by with what I've got until I'm sure I can play again regularly and I win the lottery or sell the farm which ever comes first!

[Added] That's what I get for saying something. The snow is coming now!

Yeah, if we're lucky, that blob sort of looking like an amoeba, could be a testate amoeba, and then snatch ahold of the route 70 corridor east, and find its way over to Pennsylvania and shift north, so then Wrigs could usher it over further east to some obscure place unknown where it could be flushed out into the Atlantic...

I was counting on you bro and you delivered,

Looks like you American guys in the NE are in for some scandinavian weather plus tropical wind speeds. Hope the best for you, your families and your property.

Here we will see a high of 50+ F under very gray skies. Tonight the blob moves in. Tomorrow will be 25 mph winds, steady rain as temps nosedive. Monday will be a day by the fireplace. Mrs. Reason will be ready to poison me by mid afternoon. Better keep tabs on me just in case. I will my putter to Hank for his well wishes. :)

My truck is in the garage...her car is on the single car side...small door...she does about 1 mph as she squeezes it in...only has 18 inches each side of the mirrors...i just stand there and smile...quietly..in an encouraging manner...bird feeders are full...so the bushy tailed rats and raccoons will be well fed..

not much left for the birds..tractor set to go...small plow installed...LET IT SNOW !

Intensity has picked up here now. It was actually looking fairly calm around 1:30 when DW left for work. She got there in 45 minutes as no one was on the roads. I'll probably have to plow her in tonight before she gets home. It will all be rearranged by tomorrow as it's supposed to blow over night.

Just checked with the WN and they said they've upped the projected snowfall totals to about a foot in this area. I guess winter had to come sometime...

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent
