I stopped using a 5wood for some time. I did have a great time using a Titleist 906F4 and 909F3 a few years back. I am now testing a setup using an Adams XTD Ti 5wood and it has proven to be a good one so far.

This will make you laugh. When I first started playing golf I had a cheap set of Dunlops. My best friend in the bag was the 5 wood. I sold the set complete with the bag, and replaced the lot bit by bit. Firstly I bought a Callaway FTi, and couldn't hit a bloody thing with it. I did some more reading and bought a used Callaway FT. Nope, couldn't hit anything with that either. Tried a few taylormades, only to make myself look stupid. I was just about to give up on the idea of a 5 wood, and stick with hybrids, when one day a saw an old Dunlop 65i club in a bricabrac sale for £2. I now hit the ball long and straight off of the fairway. Crazy but true.

Kind of hard to say but my original rbz 5 is my first 5 wood and hopefully have it for a while.... It goes so far I can put a smooth swing on it and the face is pretty small which suits my eye better.

Baffler XL. I prefer the blue crown, but this style GI fairway has stayed pretty constant for Cobra over a few generations.

 

Easy to hit off multiple lies, forgiving too.

 

Stock shaft is fine for my tempo, SS; faster swinging guys may want to upgrade.

my current 5w has been very good to me for the last year or so - BBA 815. Provides the right distance and height I'm looking for. Only other one I'd consider putting in the bag lately would be the r7 TP - like a Vsteel but goes farther and spins less. I've played so many different 5 woods over the years. The best ones I've had were the 980F, Vsteel, CB2, RBZ Proto (07 Burner TP shape) and r7st TP. I've never been as confident over the ball with any lie as I am with the BBA 815. The r7 TP was killer from the tee but just good from the grass unless it's windy, then it's the best 5w ever.
