Thanks Tim, my understanding is that you'd is the 2006 Apex? Mine has the curved muscle same as the Apex FTX and others.

The Hogan Apex 4 iron pictured above is likely '76 - '78 vintage (shiny back). Other tells are the face design and rather angular heel. A "frosted" back Apex would be '73 - '75 vintage.

Ironfinder has that model down as 2006? Pics look fairly same to me, thanks for the heads up!

Indeed, very similar. Looking at the face pic, there is a flare to the frosted area near the sole indicative of the older Apex. The '06 is straight. Also, the angularity to the heel, the latter is more rounded. The newer Apex's do not have black fill paint in the grooves.

 

Ironfinder is a very good reference resource for parsing through the differences and vintages of classic clubs.

Doug, you are spot on! The flaring on the lower face is very distinctive and consistent with the Apex blades of the mid 70's.

Got my 4 iron Apex '99, just to let you know (dont think mine is on the list anyway) Regarding shipping across continents... only have the club heads posted, will save you a bundle. About $26US to ship a club head to Australia from the US/UK on Ebay. Just let them hack off the shaft!

Didn't see it on the google doc, but I know a lot of people enjoy Macgregors. This is at the goodwill now. I can drop by again and get it for you, if you need this. Lots of wear it seems.

You have a 1952 MacGregor Winged MT M85 Double Service (DS) Wedge.

 

The Original Wingback design. RH Only.

 

The wear mark in the scoring lines are indicative of a pretty good player.

 

If it had the original red leather grip....

 

Compare it to the Taylor Made Wingback design.....50 years later.

Rex, I have the same club in my hands right now. I think the one that Juice was looking at had been reshafted since the ferrule doesn't appear to be Mac OEM. Mine is with the True Temper Tourney shaft, red leather grip and DUAL, PARALLEL, HORIZONTAL SCORING LINES PERPENDICULAR to the grooves. Also, it has a blue PGA shaft label with the name, CHUCK JOHNSON - PRO, Butterfield C.C., Hinsdale, Illinois.
