Most forgiving iron with thin topline and no offset?

Anyone who knows me, knows I can ho clubs with the best of them. But you'll never see my Maltby stuff for sale. They were the brand that first got me into club building, so I have a bit of a soft spot and bias, but they flat out perform. Here's a pic with another compact, low offset, forgiving iron. If you liked the Apex CF's but thought they were too thick, I'd definitely suggest the Apex pro's. Think they're exactly what you're looking for. I'd suggest the Titleist AP2's while you're at it.

Ditto on the PROS!

Thanks, trouble is the CF technology which produces the 'occasional' flier in my and other views.

The most forgiving iron with thin top line and no offset??

Mizuno JPX-900 forged or tour.

Exactly why I am gaming them now. I was gaming MP64s but couldnt handle the long irons. Upgraded to a combo set of Forged and Tours and couldnt be happier. Forgiving, yet look like any players club you will find.

I like golf. A lot.

Another vote for Srixon Z's....I just put a set of 545's in the bag and they're perfect to my eye, though the top line isn't exactly thin. The offset is minimal however, which is what I really like. Much more so than the i25's I switched from. What's nice is you can move up to the 745's (or 765's) and you basically get virtually the same forgiveness but in a more compact head with a thinner top line

Will probably totally get flamed for this suggestion but the new Wilson Staff Tour FG V6's. this is one heck of an iron. Hit it at the PGA show on a whim and was blown away. Don't know about the offset part but blade like top line with cavity back forgiveness. Incredible.

Nothing wrong with Staff irons. I've had Pi5, Pi7, Ci6, Ci11, Fg V2, Fg 62. They don't get enough respect. I'd love to try the F5 and V6.

Not to be amusing because I'm dead serious but a "forgiving iron with thin top line and no off-set" is oxymoronic.

For the Individual that Plays such an iron, and I'm not talkin some poseur with such an iron in their bag but the guy/gal that can Play this iron, "forgiveness" is NOWHERE in their thought process or psyche-

The word doesn't exist....

might be worth looking at the OP again...........blade man all my life.

The thread has morphed, a bit like "send three and fourpence, we're going to a dance" (no-one from U.S will probably get that ref)

I'll second FairwayFred. The Yonex N1-MB has less offset than any modern blade that I've measured, including the Miura BB, cobra King MB, Srixon 945, Mizuno MP4, and the Hogan FW15. The Yonex and the Mizuno have the thinnest toplines that I've measured, but at address, the Yonex looks the thinnest to my eye. The Yonex has the longest blade length and likely the lowest CG because of the graphite insert.

Great looking set those N1-MB's. Would it be possible to list the offset numbers of the clubs u measured?

I have to be honest: it's not easy to measure offset accurately. The differences are usually less than a millimeter, and frequently less than 0.25-0.5 millimeters. Can you measure the same way every time when you're measuring differences that small? I can't. But, I can visually see the differences in my clubhead gauge.

What clubs are you interested in? Maybe I can figure something out.

No problem, i was not sure of how to properly measure offset. Like u said it is something not easily done. I have some PRGR idbl CB's and they seem to have low offset. The only other set i have that look like they have less is the cobra fly z pro's. The fly z pro's are very similar to the Cobra King MB's. The N1-MB's having less offset than the Cobra's is impressive. Thanks for the reply.

One relatively accurate method to measure offset involves laying the club face down on a flat table. On a club with 0 offset the leading edge will be perfectly flat on the table surface. Typically though the toe will be touching the table and there will be a progressively increasing gap up towards the hosel. To get the offset amount rotate the club until the leading edge is parallel with the table and then measure the gap. That's your offset.

Been a blade man all my life but once a week golf needs some forgiveness. Liked Callaway Apex CF16 but too thick a topline.

Whats has good turf interaction and bigger sweetspot but no or little offset with a blade like look?

The Ben Hogan Ft. Worth 15s are very forgiving with a thin top line and fantastic turf interaction. I have an 11-12 handicap index and have no problem hitting these irons.

Even my mishits are not that bad.

Scratch hand built irons. Expensive but DW was big on zero offset and even their EZ top lines are thin as hell. Its why I have two sets! :)

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.

My MP-25s are like cheating

It’s funny how they have 99% of the mizuno feel and all the mizuno fanboys hate them

Edit: OP if you are coming from Callaway Apex. The 900 forged is a seamless transition.
