How many fictitious characters and accounts exist on WRX?

I'd hope it's not a very big problem. I guess I avoid a lot of the crazy threads, so maybe I just don't notice.

It's also honestly never even crossed my mind to have multiple accounts. At the end of the day, does it matter what anyone on a forum thinks of your online persona?

My favorite is when people talk to themself on the same thread using multiple accounts.

I agree J Mac. That's when you start questioning sanity levels. When the poster talks about himself/herself in the 3rd person and how great they once were.

As for why care what people think about your persona, you could enjoy being the nice guy with one persona and a jerk in another. I know I often wanted to post something rather snarky, but don't as I would not want to tarnish my reputation (just like in real life, I edit myself when appropriate to do so). A second persona would allow me the freedom to be a jerk without the consequences.

This is also why measures to eliminate multiple persona's is a good thing as I think do post in more responsible consistent way if they don't have the option of a 'disposable' persona.

Still is seems easier to not be a jerk and save yourself some trouble. :stink:

Then of course there is our friend good all Jack - he is a bit different. He is clearly a character created for entertainment of others, and seems to not cause trouble and is all in good fun.

I have so many aliases, I accidentally bought a set of irons from myself in the Buy and Sell.

This made my internet surfing day all worth it.

The ones that get me are the guy that comment on threads like they've been here since the beginning that joined 2 weeks prior.

Poster: "Not this thread again!" join date: yesterday.

There is a specific type of multiple account posting that I've seen since taking 3 years off gWRX.
It probably happened before but happens alot more now.
Specific topics seem to have more "non-genuine" posters.
I find it interesting, but it doesn't spoil the mood :)

But don't you have multiple accounts? Sunkthebirdie and this one?

Keeping the snark at bay is a full time job for me.

It used to happen a lot. Back when golf instruction forums were a lot bigger than they are now. Most instruction is hashed out on the facebook these days.

I sort of missed the old days, great wars of words between TGM, S&T, Slicefixer, Hands and Arms vs. Body, Automated swing theory and others. Every camp had supporters and detractors and arguments went 20 pages. Good times.

I used to think forum admins would ban people posting under multiple aliases from the same ip address. I've seen this in a few other forums so I assumed it was common. I realized it goes on in here when there was that craziness with the SITD posters. It seemed like one guy just kept signing up with new aliases over and over.

That seems to have stopped now.

White Chocolate Latte, Mr Sixty. And yes, since I already paid. I had to pick it up in the drive-thru. I'm still unsure, but I don't think they mistook me for the actual Mr. Pelz but our own DP4. ;)

Call me cynical..... but lately I've been reading several threads that just seem to be riddled with ficticous BS. We all know who the infamous multi-handle trolls have been around here over the years but I'm curious what % of active posters around here are wearing Halloween costumes when they type.

At one point in time one particular member, went by Dinosaur, accused me of talking to myself with different accounts. I thought it was hilarious. Not sure where ol' Dino went but Inwouldnt be surprised if he's still around.

Actually, I've not been here probably for a year or so (not certain how long ago). I left because I was getting virus and malware attacks, and it seems as though they were attributed to this site. I only know that once I logged off, the numbers were drastically reduced. Seeing as how you made a reference to me, perhaps the following might be germane:

Putter Killed the Dream said in a PM to me.. (in reference to his having been banned, as was I, but I have since been reinstated)...QUOTE "Lol.... I've got fake accounts over there with other people playing along.I'm fairly confident they're on to me". UNQUOTE.

It would see likely to some that if one does that on another forum, he/she would likely do the same here. Now, I really don't care, but only put this in as my name was mentioned. I do look in once in awhile, but do not really participate. Logging off now. May or may not look in again from time to time.
