How many fictitious characters and accounts exist on WRX?

Call me cynical..... but lately I've been reading several threads that just seem to be riddled with ficticous BS. We all know who the infamous multi-handle trolls have been around here over the years but I'm curious what % of active posters around here are wearing Halloween costumes when they type.

 

At one point in time one particular member, went by Dinosaur, accused me of talking to myself with different accounts. I thought it was hilarious. Not sure where ol' Dino went but Inwouldnt be surprised if he's still around.

My original question: looking for perspectives of members here on how much of what's posted here being authentic legit questions/ comments/' storytelling' vs complete troll jobs. The longer you stick around here the easier it is to spot.

I'd venture a guess that in the I&A section there's maybe 20% that are aliases. PKTD is right, the longer you stick around here the quicker you spot it. Same syntax, word choice, punctuation, etc.

You should be more concerned of the number of paid people who post "unbiased" reviews of equipment as if they are an everyday consumer.

Changing the way a character 'speaks', to me, is the number one appeal of gimmick accounts. Maybe some people just don't think of it.

I only have one alias, seems like too much work to have more than one. I would think the 95%+ of users are unique. but only 70% of posts are from unique users.

There is a specific type of multiple account posting that I've seen since taking 3 years off gWRX.

It probably happened before but happens alot more now.

Specific topics seem to have more "non-genuine" posters.

I find it interesting, but it doesn't spoil the mood :)

My understanding is that in the early days it became quite common and some still revive an old account to flame a fire. Of course there are the obvious ones in the I and A, after a user is banned.

If the admins wanted to squash it entirely, they could make it quite difficult to do.

They could flag accounts that frequently post with the same IP address.

 

Other ways which would be to use a post ratings system.

Technically are not 99.9% of the accounts fictitious? Some people will put their name in their signature, but lets be real, my name is not "BenHoganSlam1953" and my computer IP address can be whatever i want it to be ....if fact, when was the last time you were called "PutterKilledTheDream" by your family and friends?
