2017 Phoenix area course conditions

Your group was obviously better than our group. We are all mid-caps. In order to shoot the 60 .... we used 12 mulligans and 6 leash's. So yeah .... we suck, but it was all for charity.

Played bunch of golf in the last week. Legacy/aguila/Toka/Papago plus few others. Toka had the fastest greens out of about the 6 courses I played last week. Moving to ruidoso, NM next week, loved this thread. And sucks there's not good NM wrx community. Oh well, Later guys.

Has anyone played Papago in the last while? I'm playing it this coming Saturday and have never seen the course. Just trying to get some insight into it.

Played papago yesterday and most of my rounds this year. Greens and fairway good to great. Dormant rough still low cut but starting to turn green. Bunkers super crusty yesterday.

 

Edit phoenix city championship next weekend so expect crazy good greens

Dobson today. Greens were fantastic. Fairways were fantastic. Bunkers so so. Overall conditons were ok, bit not as good as I remember from Christmas.

 

For the love of God turn the water off!!! I've not seen so much mud in my life. And if they insist on watering that much, they need to overseed the margins of the fairways and the areas around the greens. They are already watering it, so why not put grass there. Nothing worse then being just off the green and having nothing to play off of. We were off at 8am and finished before noon. The course did dry out on the back, but there was still a bunch of mud balls, but not as slippery.

 

Played Painted Mountain with my mom on Sunday and it was ok for $30. Greens were a bit on the slow side, but otherwise I thought it was a decent value. Teed off at 3 and played 18 just as it was getting too dark to play at 7:15.

 

Encanto tomorrow, then Aguila on Thursday.

 

If anyone has any protips on how to play off the mud, I'm all ears.

When I first started golfing I had a summer pass which was a great deal at the time but it's turned into a dump. Terrible shape for the most part. Horrible pace. With better management and care for the facilities and course it could be a fun track. I play in a yearly charity event there for a buddy and that's it, it's gone down hill.

Used to play Legend at Arrowhead a fair amount 5+ years ago when it was in decent shape. A very stereotypical Palmer design highlighted by sand and water. Had a few decent risk reward holes. As others have said it has gone downhill dramatically and not even on my radar anymore and not worth seeking out.

Encanto today for the first time.

 

What a nice Muni track, a little on the short side. I really enjoyed playing there. Teed off just before 9 and were in the truck heading home before 1pm.

 

Course was in very nice shape, a touch wet, but nothing like Dobson. The bermuda was starting grow more than at Dobson and thankfully there was very little bare patches. The greens are fantastic, very smooth, super quick for the amount of slope they have and held shots nicely. Was only in one bunker, it was a little firm, but that's my preference.

 

I would definitely play it again. Especially if the pace is sub 4 hours like it was today.

I know I'm in the minority when I say this but Encanto is one of my favorite tracks in Arizona. Grew up playing junior golf there and it brings back a lot of great memories.

Not a fan. Prefer Mtn Shadows for a short course. Although not the same "short" course.

Played Cholla at WeKoPa on Sunday.

 

Conditions were good, lots of ball marks on the greens.

 

I hate the layout. 8 is better after the redo, but still a dumb hole. 2 and 4 drive me nuts - not a good visual course at all.

 

I prefer Quintero to Cholla, 100/100 times.

Don't like it. Can't walk. Boring, short, goofy through neighborhoods. Played for $10 in the summer once (condition was ok) and I felt like it wasn't worth it.

Papago Sunday afternoon. As 1 Putt said, fairways and greens were good to great. Only 1 bunker and it wasn't too bad. Rough is what it is. Slow round, almost 5 hours. Bunch of Final Four visitors who were drunk. Cart girl made out well.

I was there Sunday AM and it was slow already. Lot of waiting. Sat on the 17 tee for probably 15+ minutes.

 

It was my first time playing Papago. I liked it. It's a solid layout. Greens were really quick.

Ferris snagged a slot for us on Saturday at Talking Stick (north course) so I cancelled my Papago tee time. Looking at the pics of that course it looks bang on beautiful. Has anyone played the course recently?

Aguila is perfect right now.

 

Greens are amazing. Fairways are amazing. Cart girl is nice. Staff is friendly. Pace was good. Price is right.

Talking Stick is usually in pretty good shape....I like it but I would never pay over $100 for it ever...>The North course that we are playing is the better of the two in my opinion....it's flat but there are some solid holes....the only ones I don't like are 2 which is a par 5 with OB all down the left side and the green butts up against it.....and I forget the hole number...12 maybe? Has a ravine/ditch in the middle with 2 fairways and the green again is against ob

Kinda choked I didn't get to play Longbow this trip. But paying $84 was a bit too much to stomach. They must be doing well if they don't have to drop rates to get a full tee sheet, so good for them.

 

Got 4 rounds in and one new course. Played like a donkey​. Hopefully knocked the rust off as the season will be starting in Alberta.
