2017 Phoenix area course conditions

I'm taking a customer to McDowell Mountain this Thursday. Coming in from KC, customer recommended the course. Anyone played there lately?

I HATE TROON..............maybe next they will include a fertilizer surcharge or a superiority fee for them allowing the lowly public on their course.

Played Thursday and Saturday morning. Perfect conditions as usual. Noticed the flies more today which was first time in a while.

I'm always amazed at how high the off the rack rates are. I'm so used to the Troon card rates.

I thought the course was for sale at one time?

 

I'm always amazed at how high the off the rack rates are. I'm so used to the Troon card rates.

The courses are available for sale with the caveat Troon manages them

Very impressed with mountain shadows yesterday. Excellent conditions, variety, routing & customer service. The greens were a bit slow & grainy but the course has been open less than 2 weeks. A little pricey but very nice, I highly recommend it!

McDowell Mtn yesterday. Course was in pretty dang good shape $50 resident super twilight was a decent price. Greens very very firm not holding spin very well fairways good.

Victory @ Verrado today. Loved it, greens a bit on the slow side but were surprisingly receptive for new greens, a few were inconsistent for sure. For me the lay out was super fun, lots of options. Definitely need to play a few times to pick up on the nuances of the course. I played in a tourney so I didn't get a chance to take notes and rate all the holes. Lot's of visual deception off the tee. For the most part it is wide open, a few narrow landing areas but again, without having played it a few times, it is very visually deceptive. The bunkers are perfect, white and fluffy. I think the green complexes are pretty slick as well, lots of subtle breaks, you have to look at the putt from all angles to get a real read on them. Had a big group out there today and I heard nothing but positive things.

 

If anyone wants to get out there I would definitely be up for it. I think it's $100 right now then a $25 dollar bounce back card when they reopen in the fall, they are closing at the end of April to finish the rest of the facilities.

Kenny Mac today. I don't know why I do it to myself. I guess bc it's 5 minutes away and dirt cheap. Tee boxes haven't been mowed in over a week. Green were prob running at an 8 but decently true. And the sand was rock hard. Same thing everytime, I don't know why I expect different results. But I guess it's not as bad as awatukee or AZ grand.

Whirlwind Cattail yesterday.

 

Damn, that course is WET! I had mud on my ball at least 6 times off the tee, in both fairway and rough. Fairways were green, a few baked areas, very little GUR that I saw. Greens are rolling very true, prob 9-10 neighborhood.

My top 10 golf courses in Phoenix that I could play regardless of money.

 

1) Troon North - Monument

2) Quintero

3) Southern Dunes

4) We Ko Pa - Saguaro

5) Troon North - Pinnacle

6) Greyhawk - Talon

7) The Boulders - South

8) Camelback - Ambiente

9) Greyhawk - Raptor

10) We Ko Pa - Cholla

 

Honorable mention goes to TPC Stadium (I think I would like this course more if it wasn't always on the top of the list for the most expensive courses to play)

You need to add Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social. If Quintero is on there, it is to be considered Phoenix as well. IMO - best course in AZ and I'm a TPC Pass member.

Played in a scramble (Gabriel's Angels) yesterday at Wildfire Palmer. The course and greens are in EXCELLENT shape. A little windy and cold, but I'm not complaining since I know the "dry heat" is coming.

Our group shot 60. But I did win the "Beat the Pro" on the putting green. Got the free lesson with the pro Pam. Best part of the day: the 223 yrd par 3 with the Porsche. My shot was 6-7 feet from going in. I seriously thought I was driving home in the Porsche.

Scrambles are a mess and always full of cheaters, especially when they offer mulligans and string like they did yesterday. We shot 61 without a mulligan or leash. I have no clue how Fore_Life didn't win CTP on 13 -- dead into the wind playing 190 and he stuck it to about 6 feet. Of course he gets beat by someone in the group that posted 51

 

On the long drive hole I hit a pure mid flight draw that went about 305 into the wind and ended 30 yards behind the winner.
