Aguila this morning, played in 4 1/2, which was decent. Seems since last time I played the seed on the green had taken and grown in. Greens were smooth but not as fast as they were 5-6 weeks ago. Traps were in pretty good shape and lots of rollout on fairways as well. Per usual good round at aguila

I played Aguila today at 10:02. Pace of play was good, but disagree on the greens. The greens SUCKED. They were grated and the ball bounced around like pachinko game. Not a true roll anywhere.

I'm on Enzo side here while not perfect they were far from Plinko on Sat, put a good roll on the ball and they were not bouncing. Not the prettiest to look at they rolled just fine

I'll take a look at the calendar and maybe we can plan something soon.

I wonder what kind of group rate, if any, they would give to a group of wrx to go out and play Apache.

2 day wrx cup stay n play lol

Maybe you and Enzo don't play Aguila much. I assure you the greens are usually in much better shape.

I play aguila almost monthly, like I said, the greens were not running as fast as they had been from the previous month I played. But they were not terrible by any means.

Yeah no that's not it I've played there in the last month. My buddy missed a birdie on 18 to shoot 71 he didn't have anything negative to say about the greens that caused him to miss puts. He was fine dropping 4-5 birdies from mid range as well as I never felt robbed on a bouncing putt.

Played GCU on Saturday. Actually my first time in a long while out there. Really like the course layout. Was impressed with the greens. Ran really well and were very fun. Bunkers in good shape (unfortunately can tell you that). Few fairways were under repair with new sod. All in all enjoyable.

Thoughts on where to play for next week Monday and Wednesday? Visiting from Milwaukee (a much needed break from work and weather). Already have Papago booked this coming Sunday with a friend who recently moved down to Scottsdale and a solo round at Southern Dunes on Tuesday. I'll be flying solo for Monday and Wednesday and prefer walkable courses. I'm tempted to fill one day with the TPC Champions walking rate (was a big fan for the value this at time of year last time I played it), but am open to suggestions. Thought about GCU, but seemed far too non-desert golf for the trip (but maybe I'm just being stupid and forgetting that I can't exactly golf in Wisconsin right now anyways...). Anyways, a decent deal would be awesome, but maybe I just need to be told to ignore the fear of backlash from my wife and play WeKoPa Saguaro as I so badly want to!

Best couple of courses to play regardless of money?

Wekopa Saguaro, Troon Pinnacle, Southern Dunes, Grayhawk Raptor, If you like a good layout vs scenery Camelback Ambiente is in my top 4 but it is not your typical desert layout. more of a linksish theme going on.

RE Troon North, I am not the biggest Monument fan, too may tee shots where you are forced to hit into a small area or lay up off the tee, which means no matter what tees I play I hit the same approach shots. Just not a lot of room for creativity as pretty much every shot feels forced by the designer. Shame really because the best hole on the course also happens to be one of the best driveable par 4's in town.

Pinnacle is a lot more open off the tee and has quite a few really good golf holes including one of the better short par 3's in town.

I haven't read one person say Quintero and to me this is crazy. Design wise the closest troon north will get to that is to smell the bar stool when she gets up and goes to the bathroom

I agree. I just wish Quintero was closer. Every time I go out there .... I forget just how far a drive it is. Coming from N. Scottsdale.

The Q is on my top 10 list for sure. Great track, but yes, far. It's in the middle of nowhere. One of these times, I might just continue on to Vegas to place some bets!

Q is on plenty of avoid lists as well - the prevailing view is that the views are nice, the conditions usually great, and the hole designs occasionally repetitive (par 3's), unnecessarily penal (#1 with downslope fairway to green falling away - good commentary Brian) to boring to just plan ridiculous (#8 par five: short iron to a landing area, then two long clubs up the hill to the hole).

Personally I like the par 3 ninth and short par 4 15.

Now that Wickenburg Ranch & Social is open, about 20 minutes farther than Q, most who have played both are going to pick WR over Q most of the time. Conditions are even better than Q, layout is more interesting and fun, par 3 course also fun. The views aren't as good as Q, but aren't bad.

TPC Champions today. Played the back 9 and had to leave due to the 5 hour pace. I did get a refund of half the fee. The walking rate is now 72 tax included.

The course is in much better shape than I ever remember it. Greens slow but very smooth. Bunkers have good white sand in them now. Really enjoyed it.

Have you decided on Monday yet? I'm looking for a Monday round as well and saw Teeoff.com has Eagle Mountain for $81. It's supposed to be in pretty good shape at the moment.

Didn't play today but I spent some time at the best practice facility in the valley IMO, at Whirlwind. Anyone who is coming here has a winter visitor, I would highly suggest to spend the $25 day fee here before you play any of your rounds.

Aguila on Saturday morning....course was in good shape....greens definitely a little rough....looks like they recently verticut the greens so they were pretty bumpy/wobbly.....should be good though in another week or 2....On a side note....I got paired up with a group of guys who A. never gave anyone a putt no matter how short...B. The one guy constantly complained if there was a shadow within 15ft (no joke) of his putt...spent 30-40 seconds on each pre-swing lining his hips up with his club and took over 1.5 minutes to actually hit the shot....putts included....needless to say it was painful
