Taylormade p750 and p770 irons

Played 18 holes at Sand Valley this weekend and the 6 preview holes on the new course.

I didn't see any appreciable distance loss from my MP59s. Then again, I couldn't care less if I lose a bit of distance. It's never been a problem plaguing my game. I can say that the forgivness compared to the MP59s is noticable. I went from KBS Tour xflex shafts on my MP59s (which had tip bend through almost the entire set) to x100 shafts on the P770s. I'm also completely satisfied with that change both from a performance standpoint and the piece of mind of the more firm tip section.

The feel, while subjective, was really good. Poorly struck shots flew well but there was the appropriate feedback through your hands. Pure shots felt absolutely tremendous like you would expect from a product of this nature. The sound of a poor shot, again, was instant feedback even if the flight was acceptable - clicky and embarrassing. Pure shots sounded really nice - like an MP59 but through a suppressor (if that makes sense at all). I really dig the sound! Other members of my foursome commented on that as well.

Take this for what it's worth... I dislike TaylorMade for a number of tangible and intangible reasons. It was the last brand I planned on buying when looking for new irons. I must admit, I was wrong about this one. They have done a great job (at least for me) of providing a product that has ticked all the boxes with the exception of the brand-name. ;)

I am seeing these for a good price new right now. Priced directly with clubs such as the 716 AP1 which sparked my iron search.

Has anybody went from a AP1 to these? I play a 714 Ap1 stock shafts i got used. My next set of irons will be fitted to me, now that i feel my game is ready for that.

Any experiences or tips when getting fitted for these?

Hit every iron shaft they got. KBS, Nippon, DG, what ever else. I picked Nippon 120x. Didn't even know that shaft existed until I hit it.

I haven't seen any distance loss. Distance has increased by about 5-7 yards (for me at least). First tournament and Qualifier play Sunday and today. I'd guarantee high 70's with my old 710 Blades. With these, 73,74. Anybody on the fence about the P770's, take the jump. They'll save you shots. Mishits go very straight. Hit a 5 iron today, 200 off the bottom groove, middle of the green. I love these things!!!!!!!!!

I won my first tournament this past weekend with P770's in my bag. My iron play was solid for 54 holes. Good the first two rounds and great in the final round that I began with a 2-stroke lead. I hit 14 greens with every club from 6 iron to PW on the final day; both birdies came off 9-irons. I did hit a crummy 5-iron on a par 3 but that was the only bad one all day. I played the par 4's in -2 over the final two rounds which I think is a good indicator of my iron play.

Just want to preface this post by stressing that I'm typically 100% a Titleist guy.

I've hit the P770s side by side next to the AP2 716s and the ballflight with the P770s is, in my view, significantly stronger and around 7 yards longer for carry. I had to really step on the AP2 to get it to fly close to the same distance as a regular, smooth-swing with the P770.

Believe me, I wanted to like the AP2s more. I really did. In my view though, the P770 is just a more refined version of this particular style of club.

There is plenty of independent testing & data conducted by skilled golfers on Youtube that show ballspeeds to be higher in the P770 than the AP2 also.

You'd think people on this website would know this by now, but if there's ever going to be a significant variance, it's always going to come down to the shaft.

Thoughts on feel, turf interaction, forgiveness (and what you are comparing it to) and any other thoughts you might have.

That last set of TM irons I had were the RAC TP from 2005 with the swirls on the face and the original matte finish PX shafts and the 750s have got my interest in TM irons again. I was playing Titleist 710 MB, then T-MB and currently a set of Srixon 765 that I was given, but I do prefer a thinner topline and a thinner sole and smaller head.

feels alot more like a forged blade - coming from MP69's, Srixon 745s and MP4's. Turf interaction is great -- doesn't dig deep but doesn't bounce off a firm lie either. regarding forgiveness, i've hit a few out towards the toe and a few towards the heel -- they act similarly to a blade -- while they do offer some forgiveness, they're not going to make all bad shots better. sometimes a bad shot is just a bad shot.

regarding the durability -- well, i've had to put a bit of lead tape on the 8 and 7 irons to keep the little chrome badge from coming off. i walk alot so, clearly they were getting a bit loose from bag chatter against one another.

Just to begin I am a 100% Titleist and Mizuno guy and a (former) vocal anti-TM voice on this website

I did not go in to buy these but God I am glad I did

Traded my 716CB's and these are FANTASTIC

They are soft, consistent and forgiving - very easy to work high, low, fade, draw, etc.

The long irons are sneaky long, possibly due to the KBS FLT shafts

Even less than perfect strikes can give great results

I am hitting so many greens they make me feel a playah (I am far from that, but we all dream...)

Given my new found love of TM I have now bagged a new M2 with a hzdrus red and it is also brilliant

TM make some damn good products and these are great, great irons

Had my 770/750 combo set built 2 weeks ago and finally getting them out this afternoon to test. I never thought I would bag TM irons having played two sets of titleist the last 4 years and Mizuno before that but I am excited to get these out there.

I've had mine for about 3 weeks, and I have 5 rounds with them.

AVcq9Aa.jpg

How am I already seeing marks like this? Just bag chatter? Am I being careless when putting my clubs back into the bag? Is it from hitting small rocks hidden in the rough? Is this material just softer than the rest of the club? I feel like I take pretty good care of my stuff. If I'm not playing, I store my clubs inside so they aren't rattling around in my trunk.

That is most likely from how you put your clubs back in the bag after a shot.

I hit these. I dont know if my ability is ready for these. I honestly didn't get the best numbers, but they are the most amazing club i ever hit. Nothing has felt as good as these. Many shots i hit, i didnt even feel the ball, so soft.

These make me want to work on my game and grow into them. But i really need to try these on the course, and see the reality. I understand the hype now.

I really enjoy the looks, feel, and playability of these irons. But in my experience they're not leaps and bounds better than anything else on the market. They are incredible to look at, and I think in part I paid a premium for eyecandy. The iron/shaft combo gives me a nice mid ball flight, a good amount of spin, but the distance is very similar to my previous 10 year old set. These are like a "player's" cavity back and won't give you a full club up or down, unless the lofts are jacked/weak or the shaft length is longer/shorter. The technology in these clubs isn't THAT advanced

They should. They might be "Tour Proto" but they're not "Tour Issued." As far as I know they were a retail release for anyone to buy.

Thanks. Anyone else? Any difference if they are made to order from Taylormade? I know some Japan issue early T-MBs didn't have serial numbers and I believe that some other manufacturers won't have serial numbers when they are made to order but I've no idea about TM.

Haven't played much lately but had some spare time yesterday in OC so I hit the 750 and 770 back to back although just in the 7 iron. I was kind regretting not waiting and ordering a combo set but looking down at the 7 there is not enough difference to me to matter. Feel was a tiny bit better but as little as I have been playing I can't categorically say it was the club and not the swing. In any case the combo set I would build now is 4 models deep anyway. 3,4 790, 5,6 770, 7,8 750, 9 pw, 730. lol
