I think You have a winner here but as tourny player I would want something to indicate slope is off, I am seriously looking at one for practice rds and normal play but in national events I just wouldn't feel right,

Picked up my pro nx7 Saturday, works great, same yardage as my v3, Nice simple unit, my 9yr old daughter used it with no issues and found it easier to use than the v3 , she found it hard to stay steady with the v3 where as this unit if your close this unit picks it up.

I just read about the free Battery Replacements, 1x per yr, that is a great perk.

I ordered the NX7 Pro yesterday too. $20 off code: GolfWRX. $30 rebate form: https://precisionpro...obile_site=true

I have a question about the slope function. Bushnell advertises they consulted with a reknowned caddy to use his method of calculating playing distance with slope. Is this a widely used formula or is there some subjective factor involved? How do Precision Pro and other companies come up with their own "plays like" formula for slope, and do they vary from Bushnell?

To me, it seems a "plays like" formula must factor the height of trajectory for each shot to be accurate. For example, you can chip 50 yards or lob 50 yards and the distance is both 50 yards on a level surface. Similarly, you can hit a 5-iron or 8-iron 150 yards, but their trajectory and initial velocity must be different. Imagine these on a 20 percent grade, uphill or downhill. The difference in each shot's vertical trajectory effects the point where it hits the ground. A caddy can "calculate" slope distance for a particular player, but he must also factor the normal trajectory that the player hits each shot. Therefore, a rangefinder manufacturer is going to make certain assumptions beyond the geometry of a slope.

If I'm not mistaken the rangefinder uses the angle of the returned laser signal to calculate the "correct yardage".. remember from geometry class, slope = rise over run (or something like that).... the rangefinder uses this data, straight line yardage to target, angle of returned yardage to calculate the adjusted distance to target.... more yards for uphill, and less for downhill (up and down slope). all things being equal the slope distance is the same for every player at a given distance.. it's what club works for each player for that yardage. I believe some of the Leupold rangefinders, and maybe others, will tell you what club you should hit for a particular shot, even sloped shots, after you've entered your normal yardage for each club into them... and that would vary by golfer.....

Just pulled the trigger on the Pro and I cannot wait. Coming from the V3 Slope (which was fantastic) that I couldn't use for any of my men's club tournaments, this will be great to be able to switch to tournament legal, and for a stellar price too!

Mizirons, that is the basis of my question. It can't be "correct yardage" if it only calculates geometry based on distance to target and angle of slope. That would only determine how far it is directly above or below the target in a straight line. That distance is not very helpful because the trajectory of every shot is an arc, not a straight line. The extra carry or shortage depends on the shape of the arc, not a straight line. I assume Bushnell consulted the professional caddy to determine what variables to use in factoring the arc.

For that matter, I have read many reviews on rangefinders with slope function. All compare normal distance to a known yardage or top-of-the-line Bushnell model. But none compare the accuracy of the slope function against other manufacturers.

I've always wondered how they calculate the slope yardage and after doing a very Google searches I found nothing. I was just assuming they used an accelerometer and simple geometry (perhaps as simple as Pythagorean theory)? I'd be really interested in knowing exactly if it's an exact science they use or just a formula they decided would work best.

You are correct. Different trajectories will be affected differently by terrain. Just like at altitude a high ball hitter will get more distance gain playing in Denver than a low ball hitter. But the slope feature still gives you an idea of how it will play. Really this is similar to knowing the exact yardage at all. You still need to adjust for how you are hitting it that day. The lie. Any breeze. Ball above or below your feet. We are constantly mentally adjusting the given yardage.

The more I use this the more I like it.

Great product so far, absolutely no complaints.

Aiming takes a bit of getting used to coming from a Bushnell product, but now it's locking on to the target first try.

Wanted to offer some insight on the slope measuring discussion.

The distance between two points and the elevation change angle are constant. The arc or height of the players shot won't affect these metrics and these metrics are what the NX7 Pro measures with slope.

An uphill shot plays longer because the ball hits the ground sooner, thus it does not travel as far. A long hitter may have to club up less just because they have less gap to their next club (think about how a slow swing speed player doesn't have much gap between 7 and 6 irons if any).

An experienced opinion could be useful but it is variable based on the induvial. The formula using distance and angle is constant. Hope this helps.
