And one more thing about the whole "condition rating"/ COA scam that SC has perpetuated, which has played an undeniable role in bolstering the SCCS's status and "value".

This may be one of the single greatest cons in history.

SC made the arbitrary decision that a putter refinished/adjusted by the SCCS will retain the same "authentic" COA "A" grade as one in its original finish/condition. And that if ANY aspect of the putter has been touched by hands outside the walls of the SCCS, its grade is automatically reduced to a "B" and thus is less valuable than a putter refinished by the SCCS. Why? Because SC said so.

That "A" condition rating on the COA plays a massive role in the value of any SC putter. A refinished putter with a "B" rating, even if identical physically to one with an "A" rating, is substantially less valuable.

As others have already stated here, SC collectors/aficionados all recognize putters that have been refinished or altered by anyone, including the SCCS, to be less valuable than one in its original condition.

So, if any refinishing/customization of a putter hurts its value, why should the fact that a putter was refinished by BOS make it less valuable than if it were refinished by SCCS?

The only "value" of having it done by SCCS is to get that "A" rating on the COA. But it is universally recognized that all "A" ratings are not equal, which contradicts the stated purpose of the rating system and renders it meaningless. If my "A" rated refinished putter isn't worth as much as your "A" rated original putter, then it stands to reason that the rating itself doesn't hold any value, correct?

So why should my "B" rated putter that was identically refinished by BOS be worth any less than your "A" rated putter refinished by the SCCS? We've already established that the rating doesn't actually reflect the condition or worth of the putter. Why should it impact the value of it? It doesn't make any sense.

We as the consumer create the market and establish the parameters for how goods will be valued. We hold all of the power. Yet, we have allowed SC to dictate to us that putters refinished by the SCCS are more valuable than those refinished elsewhere simply because they retain that meaningless "A" rating.

The minute that people recognize this, and the market adjusts itself to where all refinished putters are valued based on the actual condition and quality of the work done to it, the SCCS loses its ability to get away with charging 3x more and taking 3x longer to refinish a putter.

I wish people would simply realize the power they have to enact change on things that are so clearly disadvantageous to the consumer.

I really don't agree with your whole line of thinking. They make the putters, so how doesn't their COA rating make sense that you can only get the top rating if the putter is altered by the same company who make the putter? That makes complete sense to me.

Lets say you purchased an expensive painting from a famous artist that is framed by a famous picture framer - say the painting is dropped and the frame is damaged. Who will a future buyer prefer the frame to be fixed by? The original frame maker, or some random bloke who just fixes frames? No art collector would ever pay top dollar for something that has been reconditioned by a third party.

The COA system isn't a scam at all - in fact, if you could keep the A rating on your COA by having anyone work on and customise your putter, the whole COA process breaks down because no one would be able to tell who has done what to the putter. There would be absolutely no use even having a COA system if that was the case.

I think the custom shop is smart to send your putter into if you buy a trashed circle t and you want it refinished.....or refinishing a circle t period. If it's your gamer that's an otr putter then get it refinished by an outside company like bos or the clubfix for half the price. And you can find some cool stamps that you can use your self from amazon to stamp your putter. The only way imo to justify the custom shop is if you are restoring a circle t.

Stamping is pretty easy once you've done it a few times, especially just a few letters. Biggest thing is have a solid base and make sure the piece is stable. Here's some of my early work with POS harbor freight stamps. Crazy design but somebody wanted it that way.
