Hold your hand up if you still bag a 2i.

I have several loose ones and the ones with every set. My moderns (2013 Cally X forged) has a 3 iron that might as well be a 2 iron and I love that thing. Actually yesterday I found another one since I was on the yard. Saw the red Hogan shaft band first. Turned out to be a Hogan Edge forged CB 2 iron. Yep it is in the back of the pick up and will be hit this morning when the sun comes up. I also have quite a few 1 irons also. If properly shafted I can hit any of them but not like I used to. My favorites in order

99 Hogan Apex Forged 2 iron-- Dubbed the Canadian Special-- My WRX friend Peanuts Daddy from Canada sent me the head a year ago never hit and not shafted I put a brand new not tipped S-300 in it. Actually has this confirmed Mac man looking for a set of 99 Apex forged

51/ 53 Mac Bob Toski 2 iron. This is part of a full set that I have had a couple of months now and this set has became my favorite vintage set. For some reason I hit this 2 iron higher than any other 2 iron I own.

2013 Cally x-forged 3 iron I know it says 3 iron but really it is a 2 iron by loft--- so please give me some latitude here--- Weird story in itself. I did a horse trade with my buddy Bear some time back and got the set from him and love them. Last week I was going through the front room closet and I have a bag with special clubs in there. That 3 iron was in there. I thought WTH? it had the same shaft as the set. Next question was did I buy or trade for this? Had to call Bear up in his native NY state to verify. Yep the set was 3 thru PW. I had put it in there and forgot about it. He said he never tried to hit it that he could not hit the rest of the damn set so why try that 2 iron oops 3 iron? Man I tried it and love it was flat nutting it last weekend. I think I recalled that I was not swinging well when I got those so I was carrying a 5 wood. Senior moment at it's finest. Seems like lately I am having more and more of them yep sometimes I can be a complete dumbWord not allowed

Just some of my favorites come to think of it I must have a 1 and 2 iron fetish I have about as many 1 and 2 irons as I do wedges and putters

It all depends on the West TX wind if it's in the bag or not. I use the TA 845s irons and they 2i is an amazing club off the tee or long second shots when the wind is blowing.

A bad day on the course is better than
a good day at work!

I am old school..been carrying 1 or 2 iron off tee or deck since taking up the game. Current 2 iron is 17* 716 T-MB. No, I don't hit them as far as I use to, but distance is still comparably respectable at 210-215, more with fast fairways. Am I likely to change that? Nope. 2 iron and Lob Wedge are still my favorite clubs and bag setup is in the signature.

TM UDI 2 iron - so easy to hit from the tee or the fairway, although I did reshaft with an Aldila Rogue HY shaft. I don't think I could ever get rid of it.

Maybe not as old school as you, :), but I love a 2 iron as well. I can only stand 2 headcovers in the bag at one time too... stupid? Maybe, but hybrids have never worked for me long-term.

I love the looks of the T-MB 2 iron, but I still haven't figured out the right shaft combo. I do know that Nippon Modus 120 doesn't work. I am currently on a quest to find the right shaft to challenge my TM UDI 2 iron, but can't seem to make a decision. I wish I could... it looks so good behind the ball. FWIW, my other favorite club is my 54* Vokey...

Just put one in the bag after my new grips came. I have to say that I like it so far off of the tee into the wind. Haven't hit it off the deck tho, as I am not sure how to hit the long irons just yet. Any advice?

Yes. Just swing it.

A lot of people struggle with a 2 iron because they are treating it differently than the other irons in their bag. Do you swing your 7 iron differently than you swing your 5 iron? adjust your distance to the ball and make your normal swing! I swear hitting a 2 iron is just a mental problem for most.

Thanks, that's good to know. I was one of those guys that went all hybrid a few years ago, so I guess I have to un-learn some things.

I once had the mental picture of driving a nail at a slight downward angle thru the back of the ball when hitting irons. Not sure if this is technically correct or not. Somewhere along the line I picked up that the 2-4 irons should be swept like a fairway wood. But then I noticed that my three wood seemed to go best when I went back to that nail driving image / thought.

JMO but I believe in One Swing. Gods know golf is hard and complicated enough. I do everything within my power to simplify it as much as possible. I try to move my body the same way hitting my Driver as I do hitting my Pitching Wedge. The only thing that changes is my distance to the ball as dictated by the length of the club. My 2c

By far my favorite club!

When I was a Jr I was blessed with growing to 6'3 at a quite rapid rate. Inherited my cousin's golf set that included a 2i... drove that thing to victory in a lot of Jr Tourneys.

Unfortunately for me when I aged out of Jr my distance advantage eroded. Although having recently gotten back into the game I can say that hitting a 2i flush at least once a round makes me come back again and again

You are correct... However, many don't have the club head speed to make 2i or even 3i and 4i work... Friends have tried my 1 & 2 irons, even after I told them to adjust for setup, they hit them poorly. Reason they created hybrid replacement irons with graphite shafts. :beach:

Some can't seem to make it work but I sure question the reason being lack of swing speed. I have a very low SS and can make it work just fine.

Not trying to pick a fight, just a personal observation.

I agree. Fair enough, if you're trying to fly the ball over greenside bunkers and bring it down softly to hold a firm green, then yeah - lots of clubhead speed is part of your formula for success in that scenario.

No doubt a graphite shafted hybrid will go higher, and that's all well and good but not without its compromises also. Like the occasional vicious snapper...

My 2 iron approach shot is much more of a "chaser-upper" and that's fine. So long as you know what your limitations are, it's much more important to hit it well than to hit it hard. Worrying about having "enough" clubhead speed is only going to get you in trouble.

I have no problem with people that disagree or that have a different observation. Success or not with 2i or 1i depends on comfort, swing mechanics, while SS plays in down range outcome. I am off to the gym. Have a good day. :beach:

Hogan Edge 2 iron is in the bag at all times. Only carry the 1 iron for entertainment purposes ...."yes, that's a 1 iron, would you like to try and hit it"?

Just found one of those last week on the scrap pile at work I think it has a # 3 shaft in it I know it seems limber as heck. Forgot about it until I read your post. I will put it in the bag to practice with Saturday morning. Thanks for reminding me I had it.

When I bag 14 clubs, the 2 iron is in there. The 2 irons that I liked the most were a Ping ISIs, and a Wilson Deep Red Tour. I always liked Hogan 2 irons, the Apex pc was right up there too. Really, the only 2 iron I ever truly didn't like was the hollow TaylorMade Tour Preferred, I really wanted to like those irons, but just couldn't get the long irons to work...

Both my Hagen's have the 2 iron. Love hitting it form almost anywhere. Great for getting out of trouble or the 200 yd shot. Holed a 206 yd shot a few years ago. Lazy draw landed about 20 feet short and tracked into the hole. Any time I have the vintage it is there. I drop the 3 or 4 wood depending on course and conditions. Would feel naked without it.

I foolishly bought a 5wd after using an 18* mizuno fli-hi for a couple seasons. I will be getting back to a driving iron real soon. I love the penetrating flight into the wind.

I've got the 2010 Fli Hi in 3 and 4 and they are wonderful clubs. They'll never leave the bag no matter what irons I rotate in. The only issue I've had with them is I recently (April) had mine shafted with Steelfiber 110s. They are a great feeling shaft, but for a club that was already getting up quick, they seem to be causing a bit too much spin, and now I've lost about 20 yrds carry on each. I've also recently thought about picking up the 18*, but I primarily utilize my 2 irons as a rescue club for low flying punches out of troubled lies and over hanging limbs. I kinda worry that the Fli Hi might still launch to high, and work against me. So instead Im considering pulling the 3 wood in favor of something like an 18* Titleist 712u. I really struggle to hit woods, so I figure, "Hey! No point in adding a 5 wood if I struggle to hit it too."

I've found my long irons really improved when I made a conscious effort to use less wrist in the take away. I used to spray long irons to the right because I couldn't close the face fast enough. I try to keep the face somewhat closed. Since i've made this changed I added a TMB 3 iron, and recently added a Fli Hi 2 iron to the mix. I decide which one to play depending on the wind on the course that day.

* Changes way too often
