He must feel like the Atlanta Falcons! Or Phil at Winged Foot. He had 4 shots to get down from 240ish on 18 and went for the green. I know for these guys that's like 3 or 4 iron but he could have hit an 8 to like short of the green, pitched on and had 2 putts for the win. He hit driver on 17 and cut off the corner and got a little lucky on that one. The guys calling it were shocked he wasn't backing off at all. Oh well, no trophy for you and Matt Ryan.

I think these guys are so used to going for the green in 2, they are just hesitant to get outside their normal strategy. I can sort of see that argument.

But the risky chip shot was a huge mistake. I'm sure it's hard to think straight in that situation, which is why you need an assertive caddy to step in and snap you back into reality. I was completely shocked when he tried that bump chip shot.

Granted, he gave the tournament away, at least imo. He played his game and that says a lot and perhaps next time he'll remember and play smarter. But!, he played the same hole twice with the same results and the biggest, again imo, mistake was leaving the second putt short - again. You know you have to make it to stay alive and you don't take it to the back of the hole. That I feel will haunt him for a very long time........

Since I've had time to reflect on the above post, I'm going to revamp my original thoughts. The first time on the 18th, he's got the bunker between him and the pin (short sided). Now he decides to play safe by going sideways and bump it into the upslope. We know how that shot turned out and again, upon reflection, he strayed from his game. The second time around, he had to take the shot over the bunker and with a much worse lie. If-coulda-shoulda-woulda-----this I think will haunt him greater than leaving both putts short. He challenges the bunker the first time around and he wins with the same shot he hit the second time. Love the way he plays and I surely hope he learns from this giveaway......

The second shots he hit in regulation & in the playoff on #18 looked to be only 15 yards or so from the hole. I know these guys are good, but that's a mighty small target to be hitting that length shot to.

Especially with water on the right edge of the green. Going for it in 2 probably leads the the lowest average score which is what you want in regular play, but if par wins the tournament that should be a three shot hole IMO.

why not go for the front corner of the green with one less club and take pin high out of the equation. As long as he doesn't block it he is perfect. He seems to prefer a fade as well

Loved his action. Somewhat unlucky where he ended up twice in 2 blows

100% agreed. He mis clubbed both times, if he was on line he would been quite long and had difficult putts regardless. Adrenaline factor. I was really rooting for him. Enjoyed his driver swings a lot!

His caddie appeared to be in his mid 40's so I would expect that he has some experience. Shinkwin obviously is young and lacking in experience. The caddie has to be more assertive in a situation like that and give the player the benefit of his experience.

At some point it was Dave McNeilly? If so then he has caddied at least for Quiros, Goosen, Faldo, Harrington, Manassero, Fasth, Price, Daly, Clarke...

But I think I heard announcer say that he caddied for someone to win The Open.

In the couple of interviews i heard with him. IMO his head is too big to listen to his caddie.

Before his second shot on 18 in regulation, the caddie should have bent or broke every club in his bag 4 iron and above! Also should have forced the lay up in regulation by making him hit less than driver off the tee.

Yeah, it's the caddy's fault that in the playoff HE made the exact same mistake not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4x in a row...smh

I was pulling for the guy but 18 was hard to watch...and then I had to watch almost the exact same thing again 10mins later.

The kid has tons of physical talent with a golf club; there is no questioning that and I'm sure he's learning a lot from reflecting on how things finished up on Sunday.

really don't understand this kid.. he obviously doesn't know how to win. Tiger would have hit a 4 iron off the tee... and another 4 to lay up..pitch up maybe birdie...par wins...come on.. use the brain cells evolution gave ya. ..Other than that.... brilliant swing
