This is hilarious. I live in Nashville but am not a fan of the Vols. People are so worked up. Now it looks like they may go after Kevin Sumlin. This kind of reminds me of the Michigan search that ended up with Brady Hoke and everyone was like "who the F is that?".

Yeah I don't think it's a dumb move at all. There is something to be said for being a part of an organization or in this case a program, which means something to you. A place where you want to be. He's a Nebraska alum. He won a national championship there. His family lives in the area. It's clearly a place that is special to him. It's a place where he wants to be. He was basically had his pick of places he wanted to go and he's going to the school where he wants to be. Maybe it's not a top 5ish job like FSU, but, its very possible it's the place where he will find the most success on the field, and more importantly off the field, because it's where HE wants to be.

 

Too many people in their career (in sport and outside of sport) get blinded by the name or prestige of an organization and wind up miserable. There is something to be said for being in the place, part of the community, part of the organization, etc. which YOU want to be in and fully believe in.

I would imagine Tom Osborn is probably a big factor in this too.

 

And let’s face it, the Big 10 West is not a powerhouse. He now has recruiting ties to both Florida and the west coast. I think he’ll be competitive for the West right out of the gate, just with what is here.

 

Plus, he’s going to have a fan base that is going to love him right from the start because he’s one of “us”. He’s going to get much, much more patience from the fan base than he would at FSU. I see a high probability of succes for him. And you have to remember, us Nebraska fans are 20 years removed from out last national title, and 16 from even being in contention. Right now we’ll take nine wins, a bowl game, not continually getting embarrassed by quality opponents, and our coach not being a jackass on national tv. Our expectations have been lowered greatly over the last few years.

There’s one big factor missing in your statement. That’s Bamas schedule. Last year Ohio State wins against 3 top 8 teams in the final polls. Bama has 0 wins against the top 15. Bamas schedule was so bad, Fresno State losing yesterday became potentially impactful.

 

This Bama teams reminds me of the 2015 Ohio State team which was left out of. Very well could be the best team in the country... but you played Mercer in November

This is true. FSU having a bad season hurt them quite a bit. If FSU is a 9 win team, think it has a bigger influence on Bama's schedule.

 

Nothing against OSU, they and Bama seem to be the ones that always find their way in, or very close.
