Why is San Antonio seemingly having a city wide greens epidemic?

Briggs Ranch shut down for a complete greens reno, they were looking rough this spring last time I got to go out there...

Briggs had bent greens which was insane for San Antonio.  Place should be prime once they get the bermuda in.

Anyone played Brack recently...how are the greens??

Played Willow yesterday and a few greens had a few rough spots, think #11 at cedar, but overall in pretty good shape.

Played Brack Friday and the greens were in pretty good shape..a few has some sand strips on the edges but overall they were in good shape, just a little slow.

This is also the first time i've played it since the bunker work has been completed and i really like the work they've done...some bunkers have shrunk and some were removed all together and i think overall it makes it a more enjoyable course and should hel speed up play.

I’m planning on going up to play Brack this weekend. Looking forward to seeing how it’s different from when I played it right before covid hit in March 2020. When I drove by it a few weeks back, it looked in great shape considering all the heat and little rain we’ve had.

Played Brack today. Course was in good shape considering the heat. It’s definitely better condition than courses in Corpus no doubt with the exception of Palmilla.

The greens still have some sandy areas but it’s closer to the fringe and doesn’t interfere with 95% of putts or chips. I didn’t have any trouble with them and the bunkers played nicely. I had a very nice sand save on 15.

It hit 100 and I walked the front nine in 1:40 playing alone. On the back nine the wind kicked up from about 5mph to 20mph with constant gusts. That and slow play after 13 killed my round today. A threesome joined me on 14 and we waited for a group or two on every tee box. It was terrible. The “marshal” made an appearance but nothing improved.

Just got done playing both courses at the JW Marriott this week.

1. Oaks is in fine shape but the greens do have some sand on them not worth the $350 to play it.  I paid $100 after 4 and that made it more palatable.

2.  Canyons is having work done on the bunkers and only 16-18 are complete.   The rest are not in that great of shape and no mention in the pro shop about it or a reduced rate.  Greens did roll nice and the fairways are great.

Yeah the bunkers on Canyons are bad if they have not been redone.

I played Oaks yesterday for 9 after work and thought the greens were great for only being punched 2 weeks ago. They were rolling pretty good on the front.

For 2 weeks they were fine just letting everyone know they were still sandy and not rolling true.

Did you stay and play? I've love to go up in a weekend or two and try to play. It's been YEARS since I've been.

I did not as i did not think i was going to play twice plus we used points for the stay.  I did not mind waiting until twilight to play either as it was less crowded.

Is it no longer that you have to stay at the resort to get on? I’d love some details. I, too, would wait until like 4:30 to play as I enjoy playing later in the afternoon into the evening.

Headed to SA to play a few courses in 2wks. Planning on The Bandit, TPC Canyons and La Cantera/Silverhorn. Anybody played LC lately? Website says something about temporary greens and resodded greens? Also, is the Canyons course playable? I haven't played the SA courses (except the TPC courses) since my med school days 20yrs ago. Thanks.

Have mostly been playing Silverhorn lately. Even with the brutal weather their greens are in great shape and rolling nicely.

Only thing I don't like about Silverhorn is that several holes on the Back 9 are ridiculously narrow and should be opened up a little. 10, 11, 17.

LC greens are tore up from the floor up.

TPC canyons punched Monday and is in the middle of a complete bunker renovation.

I have personally played TPC oaks and Brackenridge Park in the past 2 weeks and both are in great shape.

I would say avoid Canyons for another 2 weeks and LC for the season.

I agree that 10 needs to be widened for sure but I think that 17 and 11 are designed as such that the narrowness is part of the difficulty. 10 is just dumb.

They should fix the rock pile on the right of 11 and trim back some canopies but I don’t think the actual hole needs to be wider IMO.

Played Cedar thursday and the greens are recovering from a mini-punch and should be good in about another week.

The fairways are really starting to show the effects of the drought, really burned out and thin in a lot of areas.

As for Silverhorn, yes #10 needs to be widened, and as a drawer of the ball the the slope of the fairway to the waste area in the left should be softened.

#11 i feel is ok, there is room in the fairway it's just most people aim left to stay out of the woods on the right and that brings the bunker on the left into play so it seems tighter than it really is.

Are they still down a pump? They have 2 and one died and they fixed it and 3 days later the other one died. Rotten luck. Because of that they routed all water assets to tees and greens.

i hadn't heard that but it would definitely explain the situation because a month ago the fairways were in nice shape.

i wouldn't doubt if they still had the same problem.

Anyone played La Cantera since the greens were re sodded?  I played there in June and the greens were totally gone.  All the creeks and water hazards were bone dry from lack of rain.  I’ll be playing it again at the end of the month.

Curious about this too. Planning to play TPC in November when I am in town for a wedding, but would prefer to not have to stay at the JW to play.
