I like the top end of that bag, Goose. I've been considering something similar. I think I could ditch the 4w, 7w, and 4i, and switch to a 5w and driving iron. I think it would be a minor improvement, and I'd ditch a club. That just hasnt been a big enough push for me to go out and spend money on it.

 

The Rogue SZ 5w is so stupid long it feels like a 3 wood sometimes, but a one wood setup just seems right for me. I'm not good enough to need a 275 and 250 shot off the deck. Every reasonable gap is covered.

 

I guess it's worth mentioning that the 850 Forged 5i is 25 degrees. That's essentially a 4i in traditional lofts. If I go back to MP's anytime soon I'm going to have to make a tough decision.

Exactly. I've tried just about every sport sunglass out there for my big head and Oakley lenses are impossible to beat for golf. I have two pairs of Costas for fishing and pair of Maui Jims for the car. They are all really good.

Late to the party but I'm like Sully - fair skin, light eyes, can burn like no other. I wear sunglasses all the time, even when it rains (polarization reduces the glare). But for the life of me, I haven't been able to golf in sunglasses. I don't know what it is but it's like I can't keep my eye on the ball if I have glasses on. I could pull them off when I hit but pulling them off/on 3-10 times per hole gets to be too much of a hassle so I just squint a lot and hope I don't get a headache from the bright light.

I tried tons of different sunglasses when I was cycling a lot. Kind of similar to golf, in that you want good peripheral vision even if you don't use it all the time. You don't want to peek over your shoulder and not see a car because the frame was in the way. So I went with ones that are frameless, where the arms and nosepiece clip directly to the lens. Hugely practical, great vision, except you look like euro cyclotrash. That's fine in cycling because it's cool to look like euro cyclotrash.

 

Basically, I'm vain and apparently would rather look good than still be able to see in 40 years. Haven't found good looking good performance golf glasses yet.

i swear by knockaround polarized sunglasses for golf. Not as much of a sport look, but the fast lanes definitely do the trick.

 

pros: look like lifestyle glasses, great on the boat, great for golf, cheap

I'm all about the Oakleys on course, Revos off. Have stuck with the G30 Oakley lens b/c the OG Prizm wasn't dark enough. May have to check out the dark golf prizm.

Just got a pair of prescription RayBans polarized so far I like them haven't golfed with them yet probably hitting the range after work.

I fully support the polarized, top button buttoned + bucket hat set up. Lots of arguments out there on the internet that the stigma against polarized for golf is unfounded.

I have a pair of Oakley Flak Jacket Prizm Golf that I'm trying to unload. I bought them when they came out, and really like them. I just don't wear them now that I wear wide-brim visors pretty much all the time.

I really like my Oakley Flak Jacket with G30 lenses. They seem to take the edge off for me and I often just put them on while walking between shots and almost always pull them off to putt/swing. Never wear them off the course as they are difficult to pull off without looking like Dwight

Since I know you guys are dying to hear more about the saga of City's Greg Chalmers putter, here's the latest.

 

I pulled the shaft last night, and I'm like 99% sure it's bent in a way it shouldn't be. It's got the bend you'd expect it to have that creates the lie angle. Then it's sort of subtly bent down near the tip. It's not straight like you'd expect for a single-bend shaft, but it's not bent enough to create offset like a double-bend shaft would.

 

The epoxy also didn't seem right. It was yellow. I'm just a chump hobbyist that hasn't seen much, but I haven't seen epoxy for golf that dries yellow before. More than that, I was able to easily scrape out the little glob of it at the bottom of the bore in the putter head in one piece. And it had sort of a pliable, rubbery texture. That's also not like anything else I've experienced.

 

I actually emailed Bobby Grace to see if the putter is supposed to be double-bend, or single-bend. He got back to me saying he'd be happy to help, and asked for some pictures. I bet if I get an email from him stating the putter is jacked up, City could finagle another $10 worth of refund.

The glasses scam is unbeliebable. Oh you want a super secret coating, thats $200 extra, I hated everything about them. I got Lasik a few years ago and finally passed the point this year where my ROI kicked positive - that is, the amount I was spending per year on daily contacts and glasses would have surpassed what I spent on Lasik. Best "golf money" I've ever spent.

Spent almost $5k on Lasik back in 2006. It was worth every penny. Dr. Mark Whitten did my surgery. Same doc Tiger used. I am so glad I do not have to fiddle around with contacts or glasses anymore. Used to play little league baseball with some prescription Oakley frogskins back in the early/mid 90's. Would definitely spend some coin on some prescription sunglasses if you can, Dave.

For those who got Lasik, has your vision stabilized or has it gotten a little worse? I'm thinking of doing it next year cause I'm tired of wearing contacts and having that "dry" contact feel where your eye just hurts like butt cheeks.

Also, if you get Lasik, you'll still need reading glasses later, right? I'm at the stage where I'll be getting bifocals soon. #OLDZ

I had it done 13 years ago and have seen no regression. I'll go one step further than DC -- it's, hands down, the best money I have ever spent, golf or otherwise.

I've maybe seen a slight regression, but I wouldn't think it's anything worse than 20/25 or 20/30ish. I was 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 in the other eye in my immediate follow ups after surgery. They said I might eventually need reading glasses, but I'm nowhere near that yet.

The 64* PM Grind is so money from deep rough around the green. Go at it aggressive and ball just pops out and lands soft. So sweet.

 

Eye talk: I had LASIK back in 2002, at 19 yrs old. Maybe 5 years ago I had to get glasses for daily use again. They warned me my eyes may still change when I got the surgery. I also probably didn’t take the best care of my eyes between smoking and eye strain (but most of the change was just natural).

 

I am getting a free “touch up” in early september. This time around it will be PRK which apparently is a longer recovery time. TLC offers lifetime guarantee. I have my consultation next week actually.
